She is buried at Camp Pendleton Stable will full Military Honor
Reckless was one of the guys. They fought together, they ate the same food, slept together, reckless is a war hero that saved the US Marines asses.
The 10-foot-tall, 1,200-pound equine monument sits at the end of a corridor of trees in the Semper Fidelis Memorial Park of the Marine Corps Heritage Center in Triangle, Virginia.
There are actually three statues of Reckless the War Horse ... the original is at Semper Fidelis Memorial Park at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia: A life-size bronze statue of Reckless stands at the end of a tree corridor in the park. The statue is accompanied by a list of her military decorations, including two Purple Hearts, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California: A life-size statue of Reckless stands outside the Pacific Views Event Center, depicting her carrying supplies through rough terrain. The statue was created by artist Jocelyn Russell and author Robin Hutton, and dedicated in 2016.
Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky: A 1,000-pound bronze statue of Reckless was dedicated in 2018.
There are more that have been put up. One in Korea near where the battle happened. Here is the list of all the monuments There are five additional monuments to Sergeant Reckless around the country by artist Jocelyn Russell: Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA (October 26, 2016); Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, KY (May 12, 2018); National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Ft. Worth, TX (November 13, 2019), Barrington Hills Farm, Barrington Hills, IL (September 2019); and the World Equestrian Center, Ocala, FL (December 2020).[45][46] They are similar to the one located at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.[46]
A memorial to Sergeant Reckless at Yeoncheon Gorangpogu History Park (Near Battlefield of Outpost Vegas Battle) was dedicated in 2018
I was never in the military, but I have a couple veteran marine friends. From the shit they've told me, this is one of the most marines stories I've ever heard.
Go watch the fat electrician video about the devil duck, THATS the most marine corps story you'll ever hear
This guy tells the BEST stories! Had me laughing and crying. Love how Sgt Reckless enjoyed beer
and bacon & eggs!
I love how the Marines instantly go to the worst scenario, of the Chinese wanting to kill Reckless to eat her😂😂😂
In case you were wondering, those Marines would have absolutely killed that Agg guy and hid the body if he hadn't backed down. And they wouldn't even feel bad for it. That guy was trying to kill a Marine. Enough said.
Absolutely Fucking True!
There is a statue, Sergeant Reckless in Camp Pendleton
Why isn't this a movie? Better story than anything released in the past few years.
Reckless was notorious for eating anything and everything like the campaign hat the Aussies gave her she promptly ate she also ate a couple of her blankets and in North Korea she went into a tent and ate a Marines poker chips and at the Marine Corps ball she didn't eat a piece of cake she sauntered over to the table and ate the whole cake
You guys should definitely check out the Fat Electrician's video on the Los Baños Prison break. That one is a real tear jerker, so many people working very hard and showing exceptional bravery and strategy to liberate people from some of the worst horrors inflicted on people in history.
Absolutely one of my favorite stories/events/horses ever! And I love this video about it.. every time I watch a reaction to it (there aren't enough!) I get misty eyed when he mentions the Marines thinking they aren't going to see her again when they send her up the hill to deliver ammo during the fight.
There is a statue at Semper Fidelis Memorial Park in Triangle, Virginia; There is also a statue of her at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, FL as well. I would recommend either of these locations as they are great tourism locations.
You mentioned the varied asian diet. During the Korean War when locals would get treated by the army medics, they couldn't give the Koreans any inoculations because the inoculations were cultured in horse cells. The Koreans ate enough horse meat that they had the antigens in their blood streams and would have allergic reactions to the shots.
One of my favorites but I still want you guys to react to “old 666” by this dude! it’s my favorite video on the internet.
Killer video
LOVED IT! R.I.P. and ride on easy Reckless 🙏
U.S. Navy Seabee. Combat Engineer; Builder. I was Crew
serve weapons. 106 recoilless rife, was the loudest round ever fired. Tank heard and saw our position in a heartbeat. It was on a wheelbarrow chassis. Fire the 106 means No tomorrow.
Sargeant Reckless for President!
My gramps served in the Korean War in 1951 with the 1st Marine division. He earned a few Purple Hearts during his time, with one time waking up on Okinawa Japan after being blown up by a grenade lol. He’s 94 years old and wants to sit down for an “interview” with me so he can tell me about his time in combat, and time in the Marine Corps.
I gotta ask him if he ever saw/met Staff Sgt reckless. Staff Sgt reckless out ranks my gramps by one promotion 😂
to my knowledge according to USA military tradition you could be required to salute this horse when you saw it
No staff sergeant is an enlisted rank.
@@johnwatrous8982 to expand upon that for civilians who may not know. enlisted ranks do not salute other enlisted ranks. even if those ranks are non-commisioned officers I.E. corporal and above. enlisted ranks are only required to salute commisioned officers I.E. Lieutenant and above.
It wasn't NATO, it was the United Nations.
5:39 Yeah, that isn't a rifle in the conventional sense, it is firing a 75mm artillery shell, and what makes it recoilless is the fact that the back end of the gun is open, so the same blast force that pushes the shell out the muzzle is also blowing back out of the breech. The danger area behind the gun where no one can stand without being hurt is 50 meters. It is like standing next to a bomb.
27:01 You laugh, but the joke is, that isn't a joke.
The statue of Sergeant Reckless is at Semper Fidelis Memorial Park, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia. I googled it, and that’s the information that was given.
Marine Corps Camp Pendleton in California just north of San Diego California. is where she was buried, but Semper Fidelis Memorial Park of the Marine Corps Heritage Center in Triangle, Virginia is where her statue is.
Another good one..." Band of beavers " it is 100% true.. 😂
Do more reactions to the Fat Electrician you two, he's cool. Cheers 😊
She has a statue at the Kentucky horse park.
I can guarantee that the marines came up with much more clever names for the colt than "Fearless"... Marines are funny dudes.
20:07 Well I mean I’m pretty sure he the guy who sold them the horse was South Korean… so if anything that’d probably be a point of pride if I had to guess.
Fort Penelton. Just north of San Diego, California.
Great reaction. Great story.
THANK YOU YASS AND FATS!!!!!!!!!!
i just wish sgt reckless and corporal wojtek could have met, i feel like they woul dhave been the best of friends.
Love this story
One thing I learned in the Marines is how much you can do with little sleep. Learn mental toughness and the body will follow!
If you want something done in the Marine Corps mention it to the lower enlisted what you want and then stop listening for probable deniability just in case 😂😂😂
LOL...the E-4 mafia...which doesn't exist, but if it did, these are the guys you go too. 🤔🤫😏
@@nadjasunflower1387 LOWER YOUR VOICE BEFORE THEY SENSE SHENANIGANS 😂😂😂
@@ajinman3642 Lord Jesus and Chesty as my witness...protect me, there are no shenanigans happening here. nope...nothing...never. 🤔😏🤪
I was in the Marines in the early 1990s… this is the first time I’ve heard of this horse🤣😂and I was Logistics, loaded everything from a hummer to 5 tons, ships and planes, never a horse😂
Such a great story 🥰
The statue is in Camp Pendleton, CA you should be able to visit it though
another tid bit of information he over looked was that it was the Canadians who prevented an entire divison os the US military from being wiped out and over run at a place called Kapyong....yeah a few Canadiand hey....
Love watching you guys. Great work. Thank you!
They chewed garlic because it is a natural mosquito repellant
Actually in the 50’s, a Marine Sgt. was E4 and SSgt was E5.
There are two statues (that I'm aware of) dedicated to SSgt. Reckless..... The first, which you can probably visit, is located at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, located in Triangle, Virginia. The second monument dedicated to SSgt. Reckless is located on Camp Pendleton, which could be problematic for visitation. As Camp Pendleton is an active Marine Corps installation, visitation by the public is typically restricted. Also, if you're foreign nationals visiting from other countries, visitation could prove difficult just from a security and vetting concern. Unless you personally know someone on Camp Pendleton who can sponsor you onto the base for a visit, you may not have much luck. The National Museum of the Marine Corps, though, is open to everyone. Hope that helps.
"Uniform" or "battle rattle" "pack" qll these mean the same thing.
I wonder how many mission code names have been changed because someone thought of cool names after the battle(s)
Blue Jay's "Worst Russian Voyage " is a fun one
The Marine Corps is RESULTS oriented. The rest of the US military is way too anal about protocol, procedures, policies, politics, etc.
Not to be persnickety - but it was the UN vs NATO which defended South Korea & pushed back against the communists
Do Indy car
Now you need the story of the devil duck. Fat Electrician does that one also.
She was a good girl
You just have to get guests passes to visit a military base. Since you are RUclips personality and this would be good PR for Marine Corps, you can probably ask for a press pass to get on base.
Funny how they tell these stories and leave out the Army. There is no war without the Army. Marines and Navy work together. Army has its own pilots, boat captains and is the largest and oldest.
Camp Pendleton is in San Diego Marine base
Great story!
Luv ya both.
Awesome
I'm not sure but I would guess the Marine base in California.
you would be amazed at what starvation will do your taste plate....
This was an embarrassing defeat. And I think McCarther is to blame. He suffered from Icarus syndrome.
Just wait until you learn what kind of government South Korea implemented after the war.... Yeah. It wasn't today's South Korea. This dude is a great story teller, but he ain't telling all the facts.
Love seeing young people talk about subjects they are clueless about. Tha newer generation is so screwed. LMAO
Girl, you have the most amazing eyes I’ve ever seen 👍😎🥰
