That car is very very salvageable. I've seen muscle in way worse condition brought back to life. Especially being a convertible. These days that car is a very solid starting point as long as the frame is solid.

True.
One of the best channels on this platform. I'm not blowing smoke up your tailpipe either.
If the "Holey Goat" is salvageable, then so is this convertible! This car appears to be way more in-tact.
I thought I and a handful of others knew about the sleeping goat. I only saw 1 and almost had my own, but the guy sold it before I could give him the money.
JUNK,Junk,junk.. TOAST,Toast,toast.
@@tonyfriend7413 I agree with you, I'm just saying if someone is crazy enough to try fixing that one...here you go. I would never try to restore something this gone, it is expensive enough when you start with a fairly clean car....My $3200 Tempest now has 13K into it, and have not even though about body work yet!
@@tonyfriend7413 looked very fixable to me lol but I've fixed worse go look at the Christine car me and my brother restored just type in ( willard's Christine) and it will come up
Its basically all there, the rust looks fixable although it might need a frame swap but it looks saveable
Love the content Steve. Very very envious of your knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
I remember that era Pontiac Gto also had the Judge .😎
me too, in 72 I had a 69 Judge 4 Speed RA lll - bought it for $1250 with 49,000 and it was LIKE NEW !
I have owned my 69 GTO convertible for 50 years this July........From the factory it was Crystal Turquoise
like the car in this video but with a white top and Parchment interior. In 1972 I was going to college at
the University of Texas, with orange being the school color. I wanted an orange convertible musclecar
and decided my favorite choice would be an orange 69 GTO Judge convertible. After looking for 6 months
for one, I realized I wasn't going to find one..(back then I didn't know that they only made 108 Judge covertibles and that only about 20 of them were painted orange (Pontiac called it Carousel Red). Back then there was no internet and they
weren't being advertised in Hemmings, so finding one of those 20 cars for sale back then was like finding the Ark
of the Covenant. After giving up looking, I bought my Crystal Turquoise ragtop and a wrecked Judge hardtop and
moved all the Judge equipment over to my convertible and painted it Carousel Red and voila I had a 69 orange
Judge convertible. My car has not been wet since 1975 and has no rust repair or patch panels with straight as
an arrow original sheet metal. The main reason that I never got rid of my GTO is that I figured some moron would
treat it like the GTO in this video!

You are a Legend I Found You by accident now I watch your videos all the time. great knowledge it's sad to see so many old cars just rusting away breaks my heart.. keep up the good work Steve.
So interesting. In the 70's when I was in high school I liked working on cars, had a 71 Nova. My younger brother had a buddy who was looking for a car. He'd saved up $400 and was going to buy anything he could get for that price, didn't matter, could be a bug, could be anything. He finds this ad in the newspaper (that's how we used to sell used cars) that said 69 Pontiac $400. So he buys it. It is a 69 GTO, convertible, primered black, 400 HO engine, 4 speed tranny. They asked me to put headers on it, which I did, and discovered the Pontiac heads with the header bolts pointed downward was a PITB. Anyway, test drove it of course to check my work. Damn thing was fast! Shifted 2nd to 3rd at about 60. To that point, and until the current generation of cars, that was the fasted street car I'd ever driven. Nice car!
At Dave Newman. Mine was a 1993 Ford Probe, 4 cld. 5 speed. In the 1/8 to 1/4 mile My Probe would have ate that pontiac for lunch. Fuel injected Vs Carb.
@@tonyfriend7413 Hahahahahahaha, that's a good one. But if we want to be serious for a second, in a drag race, head's up, all things being equal, a front wheel drive has a disadvantage to a rear wheel drive in the launch. Let's look at specifics. 93 Probe GT, 164 hp, 2800 pounds weight. 0-60mph in 8.1 seconds. Qtr mile in 15.8 seconds. 1969 GTO convertible, 400 HO, 4 speed.. weight 3759, HP 366. 0-60mph 5.4 seconds. Qtr mile 13.9. Funny though. After the dearth in performance from 75 when catalytic converters and unleaded fuel were made mandatory through the 80s, and I remember it well, I lived through this horrible automotive period, it wasn't until the Mustang 5.0 GT in the 90s that anything had something resembling performance. Your Probe was supposed to replace the mustang, but didn't. We used to call this bench racing. Fun, huh?
@@ScoutPL The 5.0 Mustang GT came out in 1982.Ads of The day announced"The Boss is back".

Wow!
Crazy to see that in a junkyard these days. Looks saveable too.
This thing is in 10x better condition than the holey goat
Not many can compete with the Holy Goat.
You would think 72000 made you would see more around
Thankyou Steve. Junk yards are a great reality check. When getting excited about a new car it's good to remember that all the wrecks you see were once an exciting buy....now look at them....even the "dream cars"
Someone needs to get that goat
GREAT VIDEO STEVE!!!! GREAT CHANNEL ALSO!!!! I ALWAYS LEARN SO MUCH!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
Yesterday's parts car is todays project car.
Had a '69 coupe, bought in '72 for $2200 sold in '86 for $2900. Who knew what they would go for today.
If it could talk, imagine the stories it would tell! Thank again Steve!
Car in the junkyard, owner in the graveyard 😢
Great history lesson as always! I owned a 1969 GTO ragtop circa 1975-1978. It had the Ram Air III 400 with 4-speed, manual steering and drum brakes. OMG, those drums were terrible! Over 75 mph, it would not stop, the brakes would just fade away.
had a drum brake 71 chevelle, brakes would be ok the first time you wanted to stop quick, second time...not so much
Same experience with my 64 GTO and my 65 442. My 67 442 was much better but piss-poor by what we expect now. You had to really plan your stopping distance far in advance.
1 in 10 why doesn't someone grab it up
and restore this car. That's crazy 🤪.
It is sad to see that GTO become so neglected as to end up in the yard. Somebody didn't realize what they had. But then again, many years ago old muscle cars weren't bringing much money. Driven hard & put away wet was a common phrase and fear. I wonder how many of the GTO convertibles built that year are still registered?
I just sold my 69’ GTO convertible in “Crystal Turquoise” with white top. Matching Numbers with the original Muncie 4sp. 400 Rochester quad. Really enjoyed the car. The color was a head turner. First time I didn’t lose money on a car. 👍
Honestly, will you be able to sleep tonight without knowing what’s under that hood?
Hi James Blair, I know, I know. The hood was stucker than stuck. A classic case of "CARthritis". Problem is, to PRY it open would cause harm and it isn't mine. Sooooo. A similar thing happened with a Hudson Hornet with Twin-H Power that'll appear in an upcoming video. Oops! Did I say that? Please stay tuned for that video in a few days....THANKS again for watching - and writing. -Steve Magnante

That's a super origional GTO. Save it, Steve!
that poor ole girl has been there a long time
Man I love those! How sad to see it in such condition!😢
I remember the 1969 GTO, my neighbor’s son returned from military service in Vietnam and bought a metallic green coupe with a 4 speed, bucket seats and hood mounted tach. It had a noticeable new car smell and it had a 350 4bbl that really took off.
It would've been a 400 if it was the GTO. No 350 in a GTO until 1974 in the X body Ventura with the TA shaker scoop. Pretty sure the 400 was still the smallest engine in the '73 Colonnade GTO.
It's heartbreaking stuff to see for guys are age that grew up in the eightys. These cars were 15-20 years old then and everybody wanted them.
Sold my '69 in '86 for $2900. $700 more than what I bought it for in '72. Had no idea what they would be worth today, not many did.
Just saw 2 of these(rebuilt and looking nice) in a driveway in Tybee Island, Georgia. Very lucky owner to have not 1, but 2. Nice!
Wow! Talk about your diamonds in the rough. Great find,
Great video what a shame to see that car sitting there rotting to death.
We're all pulling for you Steve. Hope to see you soon
OMG that car should be restored. Love ya Steve.
Back in the late 80s I bought a 73 Pontiac Grand-Am with a 400 4 barrel 4 speed 4 $400.It was sitting on a street 4 about a week and a friend told me about it.It also had honeycomb rims and tach and gauges. It was 1 if only 187 made that year with a 4 speed transmission.
Save it and drive it!
Love the crawls
Love to see it saved but I fear it is a 'goner', and with a Lemans front end, maybe some bent frame (even if straightened) and a northeast-weathered beaten vehicle, I don't see the point.
Reminds me of when I bought my 69 Judge (ram air 4speed) for $900 from a girl in Phoenix, no brakes, and drove it back to base with only the emergency brake.
Its pretty rusty but it looks somewhat saveable, pretty rare car as well so could be worth it if someone ever buys it
What amazes me is most of these cars and trucks still here the batteries in them
Sad to see that Goat landed there. I've always had a thing for the GTO since I first got my driver's license back in 1987. A guy around the block from my house back then had a 68 as his daily driver. I'd love to get a 1968 Goat.
Awesome GTO!
What a coincidence this gets posted, im on the hunt for a 68 gto vert 4 speed, saw one at a swapmeet and I'm in love, thanks for the video!
I can dig it! ⚡️ 🏁
Can we all agree the first gen GTO's were the best looking? Especially the 67's?
I hate seeing GTOs in the junkyard especially a convertible. I've had my two GTOs for about 10 years. I didn't plan on keeping them this long but they are part of the family now. Lol
If you ever find a Pontiac Grand AM ...the original big ones, I would love to hear your input and knowledge about those. I had a 1975 Pontiac Grand AM with the 400 4 barrel automatic.
A co worker had that same 400/400. Car was a beast
My uncle bought 74 Grand Am new with the 400 4 brl 4 speed with a Hurst shifter from the factory. I always loved that car.
My dad had a black coupe and also a 4 door white one with the V8
A friend had a '70 Chevelle LS6 dark green white stripes 4speed. A beautiful car. In 74 he trades it for a new Grand Am. I often wonder if he ever reflects on that decision
The incredible Hulk pilot rolled a grand am 4 door over in the main plot of the show that killed david banners wife...
Thank you Steve get well soon
Get well soon Steve!
Always wonder how relatively rare cars like this go from being someone’s pride-and-joy to rusting away in the quiet corner of a junkyard? My guess is that one of the “cuties” the owner picked up in his dream car convinced him to put a ring on her finger, and a short time later, a bun in her oven! The next thing you know, the poor guy is trading his GTO in for one of those new Vega wagons Chevy has come out with and everything else just sort of heads downhill from there…….😂
Another reason to stay single.

Thats how I imagine it too........high five🤣
Life gets in the way, people move on, things go wrong with them and they sit. And sit some more, until someone maybe realizes what it is before it's too late. Based on the older white letter tires, I'm going to say it hasn't been cared for at least since the mid-1970s/early 80s.
This "theory" will reveal the true gearheads. Only a real mechanic (or a stinking rich guy) would have the fortitude and ability to keep one through a "life". I kept my car "through" the wife and kids.
Lemanseses. My word of the day. Thank you Steve!
I think Steve should revisit this one and pop the hood open. My curiosity is killing me
Keep it up . Just wish yards like this were still around here . It makes me so sad to see these cars just left to rot away it's weird it was loved when it was new now just thrown away 😔
Loved going to the old fashioned junkyards in the 1070's & 80's where they would let you look for your own parts and remove them. Had one I use to go to that was so big that the owner would let you drive your own car or truck to the pick vehicle.
Wish the U-Pull yards would rent out golf carts.
That's ashame that is in salvage yard! Do they sell cars @ that location? That would be a good project car for someone! Hopefully it won't get crushed! Thanks for sharing! Take care Steve!
always look forward to another one of your videos. my youthful weekend recreation was finding another junkyard to go through and see what treasures were within as you do now. my adventures took place in the 60s, 70s, and 80s; when there were plenty of junkyards still to be entered and explored.
I agree!
Why do you say it like that? Are there fewer junkyards now than before..?
@@evanc6110 at least in Wisconsin, the state DNR has eliminated most of the old school junkyards. the only ones left are the modern ones that take cars apart for the resellable parts and generally do not keep any cars over 10 years old. you cannot go hunting through these junkyards to salvage parts as i did back in the day.
@badger 70 interesting. There are some large "branded" yards that crush everything nearby, and there are some small local ones that pick and choose what they keep or crush. They like to hang onto most of the older cars.
@@evanc6110 i am located in wisc. and here the state and local municipalities do whatever they can to get rid of the small yards, where i used to spend a lot of my time back in the day. i wholly support any environmental initiative, but when it comes time for intelligent change, we all have to give up some of our pleasures. now my old legs will not afford me the means to once again explore those auto graveyards, so now i will listen to steve take care care of that for me. take care and God bless.☮☮✝✝
The front bumper is from a Lemans, the GTO would have a enduroflex bumper
If people watched more of your videos along with Pole Barn Garage videos, they'd realize that they themselves along with anyone else with the desire and vision to look past the rust can save cars like this!
Not all cars need to be in "showroom condition" or "gas monkey'd out" to be able to enjoy them. And NO modern cars or trucks have sole like the good old vintage American muscle!
It's always been a dream of mine to pull out a 1968-1972 Chevy Nova, or a 67 Chevelle SS out of the weeds somewhere and get it on the road again. But I took the wrong turn in my youth and made bad decisions. Even though I am a recovering addict and sober going on 11 years and counting. I'm almost 41 years old and simply can't afford one even if I had that chance now.
Always enjoy a Pontiac in the mix of content - even the Aztek!
It's a crime to let a gem set and rot.
Ah sad, what a beautiful car. Thanks Steve
Pontiac number one. Keep on crawling!
There is always hope for. Cool car like this, just a matter of money.
Nice video, a few comments. The car likely didn’t have a power antenna since a power antenna option included a rocker switch to the left of the power top switch and this car had no punch out there. Maybe someone added a CBR radio or something and added an extra antenna out back. Also the oil filler cap wasn’t a factory unit, some kind of auto parts store replacement.
I had a 68 hardtop with a 4 speed. It was the dreaded light green with the awful avacado green interior! Loved the car
Why do I alway feel a family of rats will jump out and get Steve? 🐀🚙
I had a 1968 GTO with a 400 4-speed manual, quadrajet carb back in the day...urethane bumper and all. Plenty of room under the hood to do whatever maintenance that needed to be done (unlike today's engine compartments). Knowing what I know now, sure with I had held onto it. The only downside for the 68 and 69 were the quarter panels and rockers...that's where moisture tended to accumulate which led to rusting out...really had to keep an eye on them.
My money is on bottomless too.
Looks like it would take twice as much as the car would be worth to restore it unfortunately. With the hood and entire front grill needing to be sourced and replaced and God only knows if there is anything left of the frame, the question mark of a drivetrain. I dont believe that anybody would invest the dollars it would need to bring it back.
Amazing finds would like to see more about where we can purchase these items or parts of these gems before they meet the crusher
Call the shop..
Good stuff!!
Somebody needs to save that car!!!
This car can be saved, the VIN alone will be worth of gold. there is plenty of A-Bodies new and used parts to save it.
Love your channel! Maybe you can do a sequel to this one if you get the hood open. Hope so.
I would guess it was last on the road in the early 80s..😄
Back in about 1980 a high school friend of mine had a 69 GTO Hardtop with an electric antenna, I am pretty sure it came from the factory that way, but it had a rocker switch for the antenna, a rocker switch just like the top button on the found car. The switch was near where the top switch is on the vert. Its possible the vert had a rear antenna that was just manual, maybe installed by the dealer? Anyway great find. These A-body cars have always fascinated me.
Awesome 👍
Big center nose for 69 tempest and Le Mans chrome front bumper. The GTO and 68 tempest / Le Mans had smaller center nose. One quick easy way to tell 68 from 69 .
Loved driving mine, wish I had the one I had back. :(
Chrome something I miss dearly
Great content
A friend has a 70 W30 convertible Hurst 3 speed with the factory exhaust igniters! One of seven fitted with the flame thrower option!
W30 or WS6? Either way, cool!
Total lie!!!
After a vert is hit, IMO it's rarely ever the same again
Like you said, it certainly was someones "dream" machine.
Just to clarify, on a 1969 GTO, that rear side marker light is that shape, but if the GTO logo is worn off, the Tempest had a more vertical arrowhead shaped light. and that factory shifter can be pushed over to the passenger side like later F body units for a "ratchet" type manual shift. The 6.5 litre badge referred to the 389. those metal front bumpers ironically weighed less than the Enduro nose. and he's right about the power antenna in the trunk, I had one on my Goat but not on my 1968 4-4-2.
What is that car doing in the junkyard ? It looks like it has been there for a long long time. These were so popular, certainly around where I lived. Lots of muscle cars disappeared after the first oil embargo but these must have been well liked because they seemed to survive in greater numbers than many others. They were a good blend of style, performance and drivability judging by how many of my friends owned one. This would be a real labor of love to bring it back from the dead. Not impossible but close.
What a beaut!
Delco Moraine is my home town plant !! I worked at the s10 plant as well/
This car needs someone to "Holey Goat" it. Then bring it to car shows next to the garage queens.
I grew up in Stafford springs ct. Not far away from Brimfield mass.
Looks like with enough love ! This one, (because of what it is)could be saved, if you could get a title. Here in Oregon any car no matter how nice is a parts car with out a title
Someone needs to save that goat
i wanna cry becuse this is my dream car
The chrome bumper on a 68 was only option for the customer if they chose a color which was not standard because the Enduro bumpers were made for each color
the enduro bumpers were painted the chrome option was for people that wanted chrome Pontiac wasn't sure how the enduro bumper would go over
That hood is sprung. The hinges don't work that well. It bent up while it was being forced down at the front. If you push down on it while pulling the latch it will prolly open.
Will this place sell that car?
I mean I could probably flip that on eBay in 30 days, given some time to doll it up a little and get the wheels turning and tires that will hold air on it. It's rough but there's enough repro stuff to build it.
It would have a new life !
@@nickbruni8041 I used to do that fairly regular, but it's been some years. I saved a number of cars from the crusher and some were restored while others they parted out.
It's a lot of work but it's rewarding and for me it was a way to own cars I never otherwise could, I never had the resources to restore one, but I managed to own a '59 Impala convertible, a '53 Skylark, and a ton of other cars.
Can't believe those bucket seats are still there. And it has a chevelle ss wheel on the rf. I live in massachusetts and unfortunately this thing is most likely a parts car. With the weather here and where its parked I'm sure the frame and underbody is totally gone.
