I think the bigger issue is with new car dealers leaving the sticker in the window at MSRP, along with any additional mark-up stickers. When a truck that cost 35k 10 years ago has a sticker of $80k a discount of or incentive of less than 10% isn't moving the needle. The dealers and manufacturers need serious price reductions. 10 or 15 k has not been moving the needle much for the Gladiator.

My local dealer got mad at me. They had a “ big April sale” going on and was trying to get me in there. The funny part was the quote they sent had me paying $200 more a month. I politely said no thanks and that I would wait a few months, the market is way off for me to willingly jump into a higher payment, I’d come back when prices came down, salesman asked why I thought prices would come down and I said, that lot out there full of 23 models 😂, he said we are good and you’ll be back. I said “ not anytime soon, I don’t have to buy a car to survive but you have to sell them to survive. His smile melted away. Without doubt there has been issues, and bad ones, with dealerships. But thats not all of them. Dealers in general have been forced to go along with pricing both at the manufacturers pricing and the auctions. The amount of leveraging in this industry is insane. You can buy fixed price cars. Its called Carvana and the other one. But there are issues there too. If you want to see what a fixed price auto platform has to offer research the trabant.

I have always haggled for price on cars. Let's face it; cars are the second most expensive asset that most people buy. A home is the most expensive. Don't you haggle for the price of a home? You may not do it yourself; you get your agent to do it. So why not for a car? If you can't do it yourself, hire someone to haggle for you. Personally, what I have always done is submit an offer IN WRITING to the sales guy, and I signed it. All the dealer has to do is sign it to make it a binding contract. Usually, what happens is they outright refuse it, or the sales manager will counter the offer and initial the changes. Quite often the counter offer is close to my initial offer. If they refuse, I get up and leave. My name and phone number are included in the written offer. Usually, within a week, the dealer will call me and accept the offer. You just need to have the patience to wait them out.

Elon killed the resale value of ALL Teslas by overproducing cars that need firesales to get rid of them. Elon needs to close and sell off a gigafactory and fire 25,000 more employees
or Tesla won't be here in a few years, with Elon running the company into the ground.

The price of new cars and trucks is NOT unreasonable considering how much the dollar has been devalued by the goobermint. When I was graduating HS in 1975 a brand new PU truck cost 5k for a work truck. A really luxurious truck was about 10-12k. The price of gas was 49 cents/gal. There has been at least a 10X reduction in the value of the dollar since then. So now your bottom line work truck is 40-50k and the luxury ones are 100k, gas is about $4-5/gal- more in cali-fd-up. People's perception has just not stayed in pace with this reality since this happened in such a short time.

You’re very much on point here. Some dealers are showing lower prices by heavy discounts, while others you have to go in and do some work. It depends on the market and the vehicle. But they’re not going to just give it to you. You gotta do some work.

I wish they would make new trucks without all the electrical bells and whistles (which jacks the price way up), my ‘04 Dakotas biggest feature is power windows, and air conditioning. If I could buy a brand new truck like that I’d be sold. Having a vehicle that requires an update is not something I’m interested in. If they can update your vehicle, that means they can also shut it off.

I learned in 2018 that car dealers don't want repeat customers. I bought 3 factory new cars over the years from a Toyota dealer local about 10 minutes from my house here in Pennsylvania and they tried to screw me hard on my last deal even after the sale was done. It was so bad I had to call Toyota corporate itself to finally get some resolution 6 months later. I vowed to never ever go to that exact dealer ever again. My next car I'm fully prepared to travel, even over state lines if I have to. Stay away from Kelly Toyota in Hamburg, PA on the other side Allentown formerly called Freedom Toyota. They tried to steal my $4,500 Rav4 trade in (give them a free car) without paying me and tried to steal my $3,000 manufacturers rebate from Toyota. Not to mention all the profits they made on the sale. All the other prior car deals went through without a problem, but they screwed up. They will never see another penny from me.

Dealers want you to finance through them because they plan to recover their loss or discounts through their financing terms. Do not allow them to drag you in withthis tactic, go to another financial institution for outside financing. I recently negogiated $3,000 off a Tacoma and the dealer wanted me to finance through them. I declined and told them I was going to my own financial institution, they 'sold' the vehicle out from under my offer. Ultimately, I will find the vehicle I want, and it won't be financed through a dealership.

You're asked to pull into the parking lot and wait for the manager to tell you the new price of the meal. You spend a half hour waiting and haggling over the new total. Burger Barn wouldnt be able to sell food - PERIOD. But at every New Car Dealership, we put up with this "dance of the dollars" charade. WHY ? Don't give me a long answer, because the bottom line is GREED.

If you price the consumer out of your lot pretty soon you'll be out of business. Shuffling cars from your lot to the auction lot is a circle that's going to put you out of business. Ultimately your into the business of selling cars to the consumer. No sales no business. Oh well!

I’m out of the market for good , yes a new truck would be nice , but dealers scamming people, high interest rates killed it for me… ain’t dealing with massive interest charges to borrow money … we’ve reversed to the old days 50 years ago… save your money , pay cash and eliminate the need for a loan with high interest… takes longer , but a bank won’t be raking you over the coals…
