her saying "im gonna fix this, im gonna tell everyone" is so manipulative. girl you shoulda told everyone before now. obviously ur not going to at this point so to guilt trip a high school girl by basically saying 'ill lose my job for YOU,' is so fucking stupid.
You know, in the context of Olive's role in this film - she is mature enough to understand complications of adulthood. It's why she reacts and responds to her situation and circumstance the way that she does. You are biased in your perceptions of what an adolescent is, however, this is merely the stigmatization you have been indoctrinated into perceiving. Olive perceived the world just as much as any adult, you need to realize that this invisible barrier of age isn't real. I'm loathe to say this of course, but, it's true. Far back, from time you cannot recall - our modern definition of adolescence was perceived as adulthood.
My question has always been where did she get chlamydia from? Because Micah says on the phone that she gave it to him, so she was sleeping with other people prior to that. Unless she got it from her husband months ago and he was cheating but that doesn't seem to be the case.
The teacher, by saying "A real who*e can't admit it to herself, much less others. Trust me" implies she's been cheating on her husband for a while now, not only with the christian guy
I don't even think that's the problem here, the problem is a teacher, the adult who is clearly guilt tripping a student who looks up to her, let's her be the punching bag to cover up her affair she had with a STUDENT. The movie is wrong for framing the teacher's abuse of power as just a mistake.
Next time you try to help me by hiding my wife's cheating, just dont. This is not how you help someone with a cheating spouse, you dont join the cover up.
My theory is that Micah intentionally failed high school for years just so that he had an excuse to continue seeing the counsellor. This would mean that the counsellor had been having an affair for years with Micah. The phone call shows that Micah was in love with her so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. I believe the counsellor started sleeping with at least a third man behind Mr Griffith’s and Micah’s backs and she got Chlamydia that way. Then when Micah got Chlamydia, the jig was up and Olive’s new ‘persona’ presented an opportunity for an ‘out’. But we know it all further spiralled out of control with the school and it led to Olive confessing to Mr Griffith. But yes I think Micah was playing intentionally dumb and repeating grades for years. I also believe that he pretended to be dating Marianna to get suspicion off of him.
It’s not a theory. It’s an obvious fact. Since he put himself in this position educationally, his speech wasn’t up to par. But he did it consciously in order to see Mrs. Griffith.
I'm not sure since she just confessed her marriage has been bad for the last couple of months b/c no sex and then confesses she then met a nice guy. I feel it must have been only a few months that she had been cheating. He also seems dumb enough not to graduate by the fact that he thought there was a President of the America's
2:06 I mean... yeah. Maybe get marriage counseling or divorce or fuck, I mean if you're going to have an affair do it with someone you don't have an improper power dynamic over. You really should lose your job and your husband.
This scene hit me so hard , I love helping people around too (not in sexual way of course) , but when people told Olive , she'd be in hell for her sin. and yeah that's hurt.
I like the movie, the funny scenes but this particular section/storyline isn't great. I'm a teacher and this isn't something we want to see as a funny movie for all.
In other scene a guy tried to sexually assault her in exchange for a coupon, to that is not funny either. This movie has serious themes on it even if it's comedy.
I wish they never made this movie. and you're an awful person if you help a women cover up cheating on her husband. movie presented it like she was doing a good thing, it seems.
Movies should be entertaining, but if they are giving out sex should it be giving out life lessons and advice not about betraying your best friend and having a teacher student relationship behind your husbands back
@elenachristian9860 I have your back on this it just how movies have changed since the 80s when it was entertaining and relateable to where bad things gets blown up into proption with no takeaway whatsoever
This scene is sooooo sugary if it wasn't for the chlamydia, or the other situations Olive, Marianne or Micah (or the President of the Americas) are in. Still quite sugary. ☺☺☺☺☺
STDs and diseases spread primarily by homosexuality and prostitution only a bit by heterosexual. When I went to public school they said in sexed that STDs spread by sex. Guess it would've cost a whole extra sentence
You're a fuckin idiot if you believe that. STDS are spread by heterosexuals just as much as gays/prostitutes. Do some research before you post unfactual comments that you pulled out of your asshole. It used to be mainly gays/prostitutes back in the day when stds first surfaced but not any more.
Watching this movie as an adult makes you realize how horrific it is that an adult let a child take the blame for giving another person an STD.
Right? That b word should have been arrested.
@@hopecobb25 She should be fired, but she didn't break any laws.
It’s so awful that an adult lets a kid throw themselves under the bus for her. I love this movie but hate this scene.

It happens more times than we can imagine
Good thing it’s a movie :)

The teacher manipulating her by saying "it's okay I'll lose my job" 😢

I dunno....she mentions she and her husband haven't slept together in months. Thats usually a sign he's been prowling.
helping someone get out of being caught for being a cheater is not a moral thing to do. It makes you party to their misdeed.
Exactly
Olive is young, and her first impulse is to save people. That's not a bad thing, but it is misguided. Obviously, she learned.

The "president of the Americas" line is meant to show he's just dumb.
That’s not a bad theory. It has to be from the characters’ mouths and eyewitnesses who saw the whole thing and evidence.
He really is that dumb, but I agree the counselor had no ethics, principles or morals, and was probably sleeping with someone else.

Sometimes children can be more mature than adults. Teens often get a bad rap for be impulse control, but adults aren't necessarily superior.
