Great no nonsense demo without annoying intro, background music and video off changing the speaker. Well done, a great example of how to do a video and get to the point.
I changed the Blackbird to V30. At bedroom volumes there are only slight differences. Maybe a little more highs. Much more difference to hear by changing the pre tube.
Blackbird here. I just got an HT Metal 5 and I think the Blackbird sounds killer. I have a U.K. V30 and a WGS Reaper 30 (G12H30) I intend to experiment with once the Blackbird breaks and I can get a real feel for it. But it slays high gain.
yeap have the mkii 20 try the helltone avatar blackstar speaker sounds waaay better now I also have vintage 30 8 ohm 60 watts I will try that but I still think backstar will win cause vintage 30 and helltone by avatar is also a vintage 30 speaker sounds very similar.
Tried a lot of Celestions in my HT5 MKII and they all made small differences, nothing easily noticed. My favs were the Neo Vintage and the V Type, the Greenback not bad but kind of buzzy in that amp.
Thanks for the test. I don't think the stock Blackbird is near as bad as people say. Blackbird sounds more modern ameican and celestions sound more british. Kinda like switching the ISF left, then right.
+trdmll I had two Fender Super champs. One with the stock speaker and one with a G10 Greenback. Its a very noticeable difference. The Greenback sounds way way better.
+Goss Samer How is it compared to a mid focused V30? Is it more loose or a tight speaker. I have changed all my speakers to the V30s and still sometimes find it hard to have enough Mids when I play at home or at a reasonable volume.
80 has not much tone... Blackbird sound more clear and open, but V30 sounds warmer and like it better. Used to have Celestion 50 (10"), Now I got a cab with the Blackbird 12", now thinking if betting the V30 or the Blue Celestion.
Awesome video! The V30 sounds better IMO. Did you have any problems swapping the OEM for the V30? I mean in terms of size and fitting. And is that V30 a 16ohm or 8ohm? Thank you!
V 30 is a much more dynamic speaker, seventy eighty, not terrible, but when you play it hard, has a annoying fizz, that becomes more noticeable the more you play it, pretty good for clean, acoustic type sounds, The v30 is a much louder speaker, and you can’t compare it , if you don’t reduce the volume a bit, and roll off a bit of treble and bass, to other speakers, because it will sound harsh and spikey! But once you get it dialed in, it’s a great speaker with aggressive tone and bite, cuts through the mix the way a guitar should!
thank you for the comparisons, Vintage 30 sounds awesome.. I was planning on selling my blackstar HT-5 and getting a Vox AC4C1 with Celestion speaker in it; because the HT-5 sounds too warm for me, but I don't if it will be better to change the speaker of my amp for a V3O instead, which option would it be the best?
The HT5r has a Blackstar Blackbird 50. It's a GREAT speaker. Very articulate, not saggy at all. IMO, it sounds like a modded JCM 800 AMP. And it's LOUD. I used to rehearse with it on a 5/6 with a full band.
non related to the speakers, but to the combo. is this glued together? Because i'm not able to open mine. already removed all the screws and nothing. tks
Mine wasn't glued. I just unscrewed 6 small ones and lift up the amp section. You just have to be careful because the wire running from the amp to the speaker is quite short.
Yes. All the speakers are 12". I used my HT-5r combo when I did the swap. And the ht-112 extension cabinet is also loaded with one 12" speaker as the product "code" says ht-1(x)12...
MakGedubrak I used the same position for each. I think the zoom q3hd was very close to the combo and in the center position. It's stereo mic so I don't know how much the position affects to the sound.
Mine is still running fine. V30 is just about to knock the tubes but it's still ok. My HT-5 had problems with resistors r39 and r38 but now it is working perfectly. They drilled some holes to PCB and replaced some resistors. Cost me 35 euros.
Yes it fits but it's very thight fit there's only few millimeter gap between the magnet and the tubes. At least I was able to install the speaker without other modifications.
5 watts blackstar what can I tell you plus who know what mike or sound system he use for this demo for years vintage 30 been one of the top 5 speakers of choice. I have one very clear clean
I needed as much sound pressure as I could and a rock sound. v30 was in my opinion the best option for that. I'd like to try greenbacks and other more "vintage" like speakers in the 2x12" and 1x12" cabinets I have. I think the most common combination might be V30 and g12t-75? Would G12m and V30 work together or would there be something odd going on because of the difference in sensitivity?
I pick the blackbird, the G12 isn't pretty good too, but those seventy 80's I can't stand that sound, they are the deadest speakers I have ever heard and can destroy the sound of an otherwise great sounding amp.
I sold mine seventy 80's, I still have the Blackbird speaker. Big difference between Blackbird and V30 is the sensitivity and v30 is punchier than Blackbird.
I tried that and mine was way too buzzy...Put that speaker in my Blackstar Studio 10 El 34 and magic! Got a Neo Vintage I had laying around in the HT5 MKII now and sounds pretty cool.
Michael Bouffard Seventy 80 sounds like it has some blankets over the amp. Didn't like it. But it was a bit louder than Blackbird. Still using V30. I still need more midrange. Blackstar seems to be a little muddy.
Great no nonsense demo without annoying intro, background music and video off changing the speaker. Well done, a great example of how to do a video and get to the point.
The stock actually sounds like a money saver. Its not worth the fuss unless you really hate the sound of your new amp in which case.. good luck
Blackbird sounds best in this combo, I guess I'll save my money.
0:10 Blackbird
0:36 seventy-80
1:09 V30

I changed the Blackbird to V30.

V30 Rulled in here
I swapped out my blackbird speaker. I put it back in way better. I put some Weber thing in there.
Tried a lot of Celestions in my HT5 MKII and they all made small differences, nothing easily noticed. My favs were the Neo Vintage and the V Type, the Greenback not bad but kind of buzzy in that amp.
Seventy 80 is a great midrange speaker, but if crank your bass EQ at all it will fart out low frequencies like nobody's business.
Gordon Tubbs now when you say fart....
I mean, full on, wet and flubby.
Thanks for the test. I don't think the stock Blackbird is near as bad as people say. Blackbird sounds more modern ameican and celestions sound more british. Kinda like switching the ISF left, then right.
No not at all. I think the seventy 80 sounds worse. No I've been using v30, its a bit louder but a bit too bright.
Great Demo! Think I prefer the Blackbird.
the stock Blackbird 50 speaker on the Blackstar HT5R amp lacks bass. I'm probably going to change it to a Celestion G12 Greenback.
+Goss Samer I would like to try some greenbacks because lot's of the people are talking and recommending those little bastards...
+trdmll I had two Fender Super champs. One with the stock speaker and one with a G10 Greenback. Its a very noticeable difference. The Greenback sounds way way better.

+trdmll Dont know much about the V30 however some may say the Greenbacks are a little saggy.
+Goss Samer Maybe I should try onve V30 with a greenback in the same 2x12"cabinet..... Some say V30 and G12T-75 should be a perfect pair?!
80 has not much tone... Blackbird sound more clear and open, but V30 sounds warmer and like it better.
Used to have Celestion 50 (10"), Now I got a cab with the Blackbird 12", now thinking if betting the V30 or the Blue Celestion.

Pimped mine with a creamback 75..... sweeeet!!
Just got a greenback for mine!
Greenback is the speaker that matches the Blackstar HT-5R amp the most.
thank you for the comparisons, Vintage 30 sounds awesome.. If you use pedals I would not buy vox just return ac10 great amp tone but pedals it sucks
Wow, the blackbird sounds better than the other two! I'm surprised!
Jaime Noro Exactly..!
I think it only sounds better than the 70/80.
How to swapp speaker carnt take out at back and front has all the grill
At first ,the amp is sold with which speaker inside ?
The HT5r has a Blackstar Blackbird 50. It's a GREAT speaker. Very articulate, not saggy at all. IMO, it sounds like a modded JCM 800 AMP. And it's LOUD. I used to rehearse with it on a 5/6 with a full band.
@@ApeLikeCreature yeah! i own a ht 5r Metal very pleased with it.is it the same speaker than ht 5r ?
I dont understand all the people saying 80 is the worst. In this video it sound more balanced than the other two
Listen again through better speakers.
I don't agree at all. They sound very dull, almost like white noise.
non related to the speakers, but to the combo.

Size are all 12"? I believe Blackstar cab ht-112 is 10" size. I'm planning to change my stocked speaker into v30. Sounds looks good to me.

trdmll thanks. Much appreciated

hi, did you use mic using the same position for each speakers? or the best mic position for each speakers?
MakGedubrak I used the same position for each. I think the zoom q3hd was very close to the combo and in the center position. It's stereo mic so I don't know how much the position affects to the sound.
trdmll thanks for the info. great comparation video btw
G12H in mine, didn't like it and kept knocking the tubes lose so put the blackbird back in.
Mine is still running fine. V30 is just about to knock the tubes but it's still ok. My HT-5 had problems with resistors r39 and r38 but now it is working perfectly. They drilled some holes to PCB and replaced some resistors. Cost me 35 euros.
Does the V30 fit inside the HT5R combo okay? I know the magnet is huge on those.
Yes it fits but it's very thight fit there's only few millimeter gap between the magnet and the tubes. At least I was able to install the speaker without other modifications.
How did you manage to make a vintage 30 sound like ass?
5 watts blackstar what can I tell you plus who know what mike or sound system he use for this demo for years vintage 30 been one of the top 5 speakers of choice. I have one very clear clean
dosn't worth swaping into a vintage...mb to a g12m or an anniversary one
I needed as much sound pressure as I could and a rock sound. v30 was in my opinion the best option for that. I'd like to try greenbacks and other more "vintage" like speakers in the 2x12" and 1x12" cabinets I have. I think the most common combination might be V30 and g12t-75? trdmll they are some cabinets out there that have both of them

I agree on the Seventy 80's being really dead!
What's the ohm rating on these
16ohm
V30 > Blackbird > 70/80
blackbird is something that can handle any type of tastes...v30 is just more of a british slash sound ?!
bingo
to me it sounded better with the ootb one
0:36 1:10
0:03
70/80 winner
better get better hearing aid or head phones
Putting a Vintage Greenback in the HT5R I got today for $150.
not worth it
I tried that and mine was way too buzzy...Put that speaker in my Blackstar Studio 10 El 34 and magic! Got a Neo Vintage I had laying around in the HT5 MKII now and sounds pretty cool.
For me I think the Celestion Greenback pairs with the Blackstar HT5, as it's a low watt speaker that works well with a 1x12 combo amp.
for me the Blackbird is better
To me Vintage 30 > Blackbird > Seventy 80, I'm really looking into buying a cabs loaded with those babies :P
Michael Bouffard Seventy 80 sounds like it has some blankets over the amp. Didn't like it. But it was a bit louder than Blackbird. Still using V30. I still need more midrange. Blackstar seems to be a little muddy.
The Blackbard was awful . It made the 70/80 sound boutique .
The V30 easily wins .
I am so confused !!!!!, way toooo many options opinions etc. my marshall 15 dfx (2005) is sounding better & better~~~!!!--- solid state.
Solid state will never sound as good as tube pretty close today but the sag is not there
