same issue w/ our 04GMCSierra - I'm adding this comment so it may help someone else - the wires under seat were in good shape, so we reset electrical by unhooking battery but light still came on - what worked was taking ignition key and inserting it into the airbag off/auto switch on dash near heater, turned it off then back to auto. fixed it! thanks for video and for not editing out the 'low wiper fluid' light coming on … cause it's always something! :)
Thank you for the info. The airbag light went on today in my 04 silverado. After watching your vid I checked under passenger seat and found one of the wires broken at the harness. I fixed in 15 min and light went off. Thank you so much
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I didn't see any obvious issues but I took apart the wire clips, blew some canned air in them and connected them back. The light and warning message went away! Thanks!!
My airbag light just came on in. My 06 silverado.. I'm not i made of money ..I'm so glad I saw this video.. Bc sure enough my wire is broke just like that,,, going pull seat out this afternoon and fix it.. Dealership wanted $170+ labor to change sensor... When in fact Its not a sensor... Ty for posting this
I'm glad this helped. Sometimes it's a quick cheap fix. That's what I was hoping for. Lucky you saw this and didn't go the dealer. They most likely would charge you a ton of money to change your sensor, only to have the light still on. Dealers follow procedure and go by the book. You kinda have to some troubleshooting of your own. Dealer to me is the LAST and FINAL resort.
Thank you!!! We were just about to buy a Suburban of the same year when this code came up before the deal was closed. Seller offered to give us $500 off the selling price, and it looks like we can fix it ourselves.
just watched video and matched my issues exactly ,I have checked the sensor under the radiator but was not aware of the one under the seat that's next thanks .
Thanks bro... Both pink and brown wires broke off inside the harness. I bypassed the harness, spliced them together, soldered and insulated with heatshrink. If I ever have to remove the passenger seat i'll have to cut the wires. Mine is a 03 Silverado, I don't know about this run of Silverado's (03 ~ 05). Seems the wires are crappy and don't take repetitive bending very well. I also had a wire break off inside the boot that goes to the frame and driver's side door. The broken wire prevented my driver's side window from working. Repaired the same way spliced In new wire, solder and insulate with shinkwrap.
Bill Berka Heck yea!!! And it has 237,000 miles on it and still going strong. I'm thinking about getting a new Silverado, but the prices are freaking insane.
hi buddy I got the same shirt and had the same problem that wires exactly what happenedl. also on that external torx bolt, you can use a regular socket for that, I did. Hope that helps you I'm sure it's too late by now though
I have a problem my truck is I replaced the seats and the seats I installed don’t have airbags. I tried to remove the wiring and harness and add them to my new seat but the wiring is integrated into the passenger seat….
They didn't run that wire harness protector/split loom long enough. The wires of left exposed right where they meet that plastic cover you took off, so the wire rubs against that cover when the seat moves forward & back. This wears through the wire insulation and eventually snaps the wire. Wrap it good with some electrical tape to prevent from happening again.
Todd H Actually, that wire harness was way to tight. It wasn't rubbing on anything. There was no give when sliding the seat forward. And having my kid sit in the back, I was constantly having to slide the seat back and forth. It's all good, and hasn't had a problem since I fixed it.
nice video! But in New York state and maybe elsewhere the air bag warning light can be on and it will still pass inspection so who cares if the air bag light is on!
exactly what happened to me 2003 silverado z71 except looked like someone had already tried to use a coupler but it looks like it pulled apart. i added a 1 inch length of wire, soldered, and put heat shrink tubing over. no more indicators. i also had engine light with o2 sensor code that went away. thanks a mil$$$ in savings
I am in no means a certified mechanic. But I work on my own cars. I would do all that I could, before taking it to a shop. Other commenters said their wires actually came unattached from the white connectors. I just got lucky when that wire was looking right at me. Good luck to you.
I'm sure it does, I really don't want to find out for sure. HAHA. It was just a wire that made a loss of connection. Re-wired it and connection was restored.
just imagine , the honda engine had the same displacement, it would be over 600 hp and take a beating to 10000rpm daily ,iv been working on these crappy chevys they are very low quality and everything is cheap i can reach under the hood a break stuff with my bare hands
About breaking stuff under the hood with your bare hands? That goes for every car. 90% of the sensors and connectors/clips are partial or entirely made of plastic. There isn't a spec of plastic in my '68 camaro engine compartment. Todays cars and parts are made of plastic to reduce weight and ensure parts failure to keep the money rolling into dealerships. About 5 things on my Silverado broke because of them being plastic.
I have same problem with air bag light but no wires cut , & blinker in mirror doesn’t work if I plug second small harness together, it’s the harness right behind air bag harness, does anyone know what or why if I plug together blinker stops working if I unplug it works fine , & yes still trying to figure out air bag , good video 👍
Yes! That is the passenger seat. That’s where my problem was. Maybe you had a different problem. I don’t understand what you are saying. Did you not notice me walk around my truck? And pull the seat forward and show the broken wire?
I think that's correct. One side wires go up to the seat bottom, and the other side goes down under carpet to wiring harness. I'm not a certified mechanic, just a guy trying to save money. I just got lucky with a broken wire.

That just helped me thanks

YESSSS! I'm not the only one! GM should have made the wires more flexible. Or a little longer. I'm glad this helped.
How did you fix it? Help?
Same exact issue and same exact wire... Thanks for this post! Never would have figured it out.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I didn't see any obvious issues but I took apart the wire clips, blew some canned air in them and connected them back. The light and warning message went away! Thanks!!
Awesome. Glad I could help in any way.

Deb Hadden That's great news. I hope all goes well. Man, I can only imagine the amount of money I've helped people save, that had this issue.
It's a amazing to think about!
Deb Hadden im the dealer you bought the suburban off of..im gonna need that 500 bucks back . 😂😂😂🇺🇸 jk
just watched video and matched my issues exactly ,I have checked the sensor under the radiator but was not aware of the one under the seat that's next thanks .
I hope it's only a broken wire. It's been the issue for other people.
Thanks bro... Both pink and brown wires broke off inside the harness. I bypassed the harness, spliced them together, soldered and insulated with heatshrink. If I ever have to remove the passenger seat i'll have to cut the wires.

Thanks for the video this was my problem now i just have to figure out how to wire it back in
I'm having the same issue on my 05 Sierra. Thanks for this info!!
Bill Berka No problem, I hope this helps.
Sweet68Camaro Thanks bud!! You still have yours?
Bill Berka Heck yea!!! And it has 237,000 miles on it and still going strong. I'm thinking about getting a new Silverado, but the prices are freaking insane.
204 on mine and still runs without any issued. Keep it man. The new ones you practically have to take out a mortgage on and are more expensive to fix.
Good looking out! Great fix.
This is exactly like mine. Thanks!

Where can I buy the harness ? Can you post a link? I don't have it under my seat
Motorbreath!!!!!! Thanks there fixed it,, unplugged harness.
Cool. Glad this video helped. You gotta love early Metallica!!!!
What’s the exact name of this part?? I want to order it online
I don’t know the part number. I just fixed the broken wire. I’m sure the actual part is very expensive and I’m sure it would happen again.
thanks for the info, please post a video to see if that's the problem, thanks again
I have a problem my truck is I replaced the seats and the seats I installed don’t have airbags. I tried to remove the wiring and harness and add them to my new seat but the wiring is integrated into the passenger seat….
What was the code it through ?

That’s probably true, but this was more so the air bag would work.

Glad this helped. Thanks for watching. Part 2 shows after I fixed wire.
Got the same problem with my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 how did you fix yours ?
Me too
Nomad 2004 I've put new wheel bearings in it last spring
Just came on my 03 Sierra. I don’t have the purple and white connectors on the top? Should there be?
No wires broken
I am in no means a certified mechanic. But I work on my own cars. I would do all that I could, before taking it to a shop. Other commenters said their wires actually came unattached from the white connectors. I just got lucky when that wire was looking right at me. Good luck to you.
my 91 gmc k2500 domt have no air bags we die like men lol
Does the passenger airbag still work?
I'm sure it does, I really don't want to find out for sure. HAHA. It was just a wire that made a loss of connection. Re-wired it and connection was restored.
what did you do too fix the problem? my dash light just came on, 05 silverado ext cab
jonathan owens h22 Watch part 2
thx im going to check this right now , this shit would never happen on a honda
Maybe this wouldn't happen on a Honda, but how much can a Honda haul and tow? Just saying. I hope this helps you and thanks for watching.

that's because you are very strong! Hulk smash!
+Ivan Drago HAHA. Too funny!!
Should both connectors have wires on both sides
+ken crockett This is a Must..You should disconnect your battery ground cable.
Before messing with airbag wires...
What color wire was that
Its light bwon with a black stripe. its from the smaller of the two wire connectors.
Thanks! BTW, Metallica Rulz!
I have Chevy transverse 2010 the service air bag it on how can I off it
So maybe same issue here on Chevy traverse
that's the passenger seat, problem was with the drivers seat.
Yes! That is the passenger seat. That’s where my problem was. Maybe you had a different problem. I don’t understand what you are saying. Did you not notice me walk around my truck? And pull the seat forward and show the broken wire?
You should go to shop in Brentwood
eyeseenow3 I wound up fixing the problem myself.
Mi yukon denali 2003 ese problema tiene. Que repuesta me das
that light was plaguing me for years now. thanks for the post. will check my passenger side today. if that's what is i'll make a video and post.
Metal Militia!~!!!!!~!!~!~!!!!
Edit: nvm I'm wrong motorbreath!
Good catch on the song. It was barely on, and at a low volume. Gotta love old school Metallica.
MotorbreatH!
Hell yeah! I graduated in 89, so I was the right age at the right time, for the best music.
i graduated in 1984..saw them on the Ride the Lightning tour in 1983 in a bar
On my avalanche the smaller connector only has wires on one side. It's like that under both seats
I think that's correct. One side wires go up to the seat bottom, and the other side goes down under carpet to wiring harness. I'm not a certified mechanic, just a guy trying to save money. I just got lucky with a broken wire.

Is this the same for a 2000 gmc 1500 my seats are power seats . I checked under both front seats and don’t see and wiring like you show
I don’t know. There might be a different wiring set up for that year/style.
