    Dude! I've had a service airbag light on for so long. I checked under the seat and had a broken wire. In 30 seconds I had it soldered back together and my light is gone. Thanks!!

    This helped me verify a salvage yard replacement steering column with clock spring...working.
    Test and verify the drivers side airbag by disconnecting batteries, wait 20min. Remove airbag, disconnect the yellow plug down by brake release. With a multimeter check for continuity between the 2 contacts of connector going to column. It should indicate good continuity. Essentially unplugged it will short the 2 wires. Then insert 2 pins into the airbag connector and with meter check for continuity. It should be good and show a solid path through the clock spring, wiring to the plug, across the plug and back to the other side of the connector. So you know the harness and clock spring are good.
    Then I found the airbag plug was missing the plastic retainer that goes over the plug. I have to find the part number but it's a few dollars. The 2 side locks hold it but there's a little grey plastic part that pushes down in. The replacement was not there so had to swap it from the old plug. That's required for operation...no more airbag light.

    I can see this happening more on extended cab or four door trucks where you seat passengers in the back, that plug connector cover can only do so much to protect it, but a persons foot can actually slide more under the seat and push down on the wires by accident causing seperation. I was having the same airbag light issue in my 2005 gmc sierra 1500, but luckily it was only the SIRS 15a fuse in the fuse box under the hood, it was actually missing, i bought the truck used, so i replaced the missing fuse with a 15a fuse, and now all is well, it even gave me back my seatbelt warning light, it never lit up, so it appears that the impact sensors and wiring are fine. The only difference between your truck and mine, mine is a single cab, so theres little to no chance that the wiring would have been damaged either under the passenger seat or the drivers seat, because theres wiring under there too.

    As long as there is no danger that the bag will randomly fire while I'm driving, then I can live with it for a while.
    As I understand it, the system is disabled when the "Service Air Bag" light is on, so the bag should not activate randomly or even with a crash.
    I don't even want the damn SIR system. I'm ready to buy a 1950's vintage pickup without any electronics.

    I belive that wire is connected to the passenger presence module an that is what is tripping the airbag code because it lets the vehicle know whether or not to activate the airbags if someone is in that seat.

      The clock spring inside your steering wheel might be broken/damaged. That spring lives down in the base of the steering wheel, under the airbag itself. Please disconnect your battery for 15-20 minutes before messing with the airbag system. It could possibly save your life.

      Yes I did, sorry I forgot to put that in the video. Still learning on making videos but I would disconnect the battery for at least 30min before starting on any airbag work. Thanks again for watching.

    Question. If I just changed the passenger seat for another one that doesn't have airbag, my service bag light came on, does really affect my truck?

    • @GreeksGarage
      @GreeksGarage  2 года назад

      There is no air bag sensor in the seat just wiring for the air bag that runs underneath the seat. I would check the wiring, or it could be the air bag sensor located in the front bumper.

      @@GreeksGarage whats the yellow connector for?

    • @jasonfreeman6208
      @jasonfreeman6208 Год назад

      Yellow connectors are what’s known as body sensors. DO NOT DISCONNECT! Body sensors “are” the sensors that tell the airbags to deploy. When they break upon impact they send a signal to the car to trip the bags. Good luck and disconnect your battery before working in this problem.

    Mine came on when I moved my front seat up and down could that be the reason?

    • @GreeksGarage

      Yes, I would definitely check under the seat and see if any of the wires broke off.
