I guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot the login password. I love any tips you can offer me.
Utterly marvelous. It’s one of the few concertos which I love all the movements at the same level. They are all outstanding, and the mindblowing ending can just not leave you disappointed.
Sautille, ricochet and octaves on the cello?? I'm a violinist and it blew me away when he did all these difficult techniques. Also the audience clapped between the movements; sacreligieous!
Perfectly reasonable to applaud after a blockbuster first movement of any concerto when the virtuoso has been particularly competent, let alone when one has just heard, in a small city in Canada, an inspired performance by the torch-bearer from Casals through Rostropovich.
@@theresachen168 I'm referring to the comment saying clapping between movements being sacrilegious. People who are not versed on etiquette for performances shouldn't be criticized or made to feel bad for something that is really not harmful at all. Clapping expresses joy and appreciation. Nothing pleases God more than Gratitude for His work. Comments telling someone or some people they are doing something heinous and awful would turn away many people. Thus, I stated, "making people feel like they're not wanted."
I play in an community orchestra, happen to be performing this lovely concerto this weekend - but I wish the audience WOULD be 'allowed' to applaud between movements! It gives the players a chance to take a breath, and every movement is worthy of appreciation!!! Yes, it's 'sacreligious' but those of us who are performers appreciate the .... appreciation!! :D
WOW why oh why is anybody down-voting this. Masterful performance here of one of the finest classical pieces in human history. Y'all with the down-votes are nuts!
For everyone who thinks the cello is quiet, are you listening to it on your phone? If so, I don’t think a tiny phone speaker can truly capture the range and expression of a cello. Try casting it to your television or listening to it on headphones. I feel like his instrument is pretty well balanced with everything else that’s going on. If that doesn’t help, listen more carefully or find another recording. Thank you and have a good day.
You are music. Wish to have words to describe what I feel,, what You make us feel, when playing and moreover this master piece. Thanks a lot, Yo -yo Ma, and orquestra.
He must be very popular in Calgary; or was it because he came out to play an encore with a cowboy hat. Just a scene of involvement and enjoyment. The Appalachia Waltz is certainly a relaxing and enjoyable encore.
It looks fantastic. It sounds just beautiful. Its almost perfect. But why you skiped the colour grading? Greetings from perfectionist Germany :p this recording is for eternity!
I watched all of the first movement, and then tried to skip ahead to the third for a few minutes (to see one of my favorite moments where the theme from the first movement comes back before the triumphant ending): I took my best guess as to where this might be in the recording, and I was very surprised when suddenly... Yo Yo had a hat!!! 🤠 My first thought was...”why did he put a cowboy hat on for the third movement?😂
Are you familiar with Calgary's White hatting ceremony? It's a long-standing tradition in Calgary, a symbol of the Western hospitality and good cheer we like to share with visiting guests. The white Smithbilt hat has been bestowed on numerous celebrities and dignitaries on their visits to our city since the 1950s.
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra That’s great! I was not familiar with that tradition. How cool though! By the way I love this performance. I am currently learning this piece and love to listen to different recordings. Keep up the good work!
Yo Yo Ma combines mastery of this fine instrument with feeling, passion, depth, beauty. I only wish that the cello was more prominent in this recording. Balance between orchestra and cello is way off.
I'm listening with headphones and the balance is fine. Besides, the orchestra's playing is of high caliber--strong front desk playing and conductor has equaled the 2015 Ma version with the Prague Philharmonic under Bělohlávek.
yea let's put a lavel mic on the cello cos that's how it sounds in an orchestra hall.. Way off is you having no understanding about sound and recording but still thinking you're entitled to comment... Here's some advice, go and listen to some actual real orchestras in real life and understand why the cello isn't be more "prominent".... And also, just appreciate the playing you heathen........
@@Apeskinny I not only have listened to many live orchestra performances but my Father was a cellist in a major orchestra. I am very sensitive to sound and would say that y tube is perhaps not the best way to capture sound.

Just love this. Well shot video. My "Girl Friend" practiced this piece in the Netherlands as an audition in the '80s. FYI: Never date a professional Musician! She would practice the same part over, and over, and over....
you do know why, right? It's to get it perfect... I'm certain that Yo-Yo Ma has played MANY parts over and over and over... that's why he's as amazing as he is!!
This is the first time I've ever seen the conductor without a baton. I had a father who was a conductor. How long has it been that a conductor doesn't use the baton? I dropped out of the symphony world many years ago myself. I still listen now and then, but because behind the scenes was a world of brutality in disguise for me, it's a rare occasion that I visit here. The best orchestral music floats on the top like cream, and it may never perish, like the works of the great artists, painters and sculptors. It's just that not everyone lives in the Vatican or Louvre day and night. I guess some of the great stuff was commissioned by royalty, and stayed in the confines there. I prefer great things made to deliver the mass of people from suffering, because if "royalty" is not compassionate or a well-wisher to the people, they will not be happy. Now things are changing immensely with Internet and social media. God is showing good people how to live a good life in spiritual consciousness. This could gradually bring huge change for everyone, and immediate change for some really fortunate good people. We just need to keep the faith strong and steady in our hearts, because everything starts with faith. Praise God.
he's using one in the first movement... Our conductor stopped using one for a while, I think he'd developed some sort of tension injury in his baton hand. It's not the baton, for me, that I watch, but his movements and I listen to our drum section for the beat - they're bang on all the time!! :D
No one on this earth has the power to extract more tears from my face than Yo-yo Ma with that Cello
The look of appreciation he gives the principal flute around 19:24. So classy. So personal. I've always loved YoYo!

how on god's green earth does this not have more views???
this is quite possibly the most "pretty" piece of classical music i've heard in a while
