Alien encounter, or whatever it was called, was really scary and fun. The reboot with Stitch was okay but I liked how un Disney that original was. When the creature breathed on the back of your neck...come on, that was awesome.
My husband and I went to DCA about 6 months after it opened. We actually found it kind of eerie because it was so empty. Very few people and we kept saying to each other "Aren't we in a Disney park? Where is everybody?" We had the misfortune to ride on Superstar Limo. It was...different. I have mourned when we have lost certain Disney rides. That one, never.
Walt wasn't soft-testing the Viewliner for the monorail. According to interviews with Bob Gurr ( available on RUclips) he said when Walt found out about a monorail during a European trip he told Bob "Well that's what I wanted!". He'd have never built the viewliner if he had known the monorail existed. Also, the one he and Lillian traveled on during their trip was a suspended monorail that swang so much Lillian got ill and insisted Walt find one that doesn't do that.
Thanks so much Dallin! Always a bright day when a new Offhand video is posted! Truly entertaining! Oh, and the sound effect that goes with the count-down numbers is astoundingly chuckle inducing and utterly wonderful! (Sweaters?) ("We're awake... but we're very confused...")
I seriously just love your content so much! You put so much personality in your videos! Your commentary is what makes it so enjoyable. Keep up the great work!
I rode the DL Peoplemover many times in its last years. What people seem to forget is that it was a turd at the end of its life. The ride was rough as it would drop abruptly after running over the tire sections that propel the trains. Most notably, descending the hill next to the monorail station. It would slap so hard I would stand up in the car to keep my butt from hurting. I for one was extremely excited about the new Rocket Rods! With that said, I love and miss the old PM. If it had ran as good as the TTA at WDW and didn't have the closing canopy I would have rather had it refurb'd than replaced, but here we are. The Rocket Rods was thrilling, but only in the front seat. When I first rode it I was in the front seat and when the vehicle rose upon acceleration I thought I was going to flip backwards! It was awesome!!! If it had only been more reliable and structurally sound to handle all of the new forces placed on the track and its supports. I only ever got three rides on it in four different visits. 2 rides were in one visit with a rope drop ride and a two hour queue mid-day. Hopefully soon we will get a replacement for both US parks. I truly think that TTA catching fire in MK was the best thing for DL and a possible replacement. Now it effects both coasts and will need a solution. Its a shame that with all the California shutdowns I feel like Disney may have missed a golden opportunity to at least demo the old track in TL and even replace it. They could have already been done, and at a minimum at least with the guest areas down the TL esplanade could have been torn down to free up more foot traffic space. I'm sure lack of revenue hurts all divisions.... this is the way. Who knows though... I really wanted Marry Poppins in Epcot but we will see if that ever happens... KUNGALOOSH!!!!
Man, my uncle worked on Superstar Limo, he was an imagineer at the time. He seemed so humored yet disappointed when talking about it. Said he hated it, definitely not his proudest moment.
8:20 - That's not the phantom boats, that's the Motorboat Cruise located in front of the Matterhorn entry. Different ride. I used to enjoy that as a kid, long after the Phantom Boats ( never rode them ) were gone. The best part of the motorboat cruise was a brass bell they added in the 70's. Since the steering wheel did nothing as the boat followed it's track, the only thing you could control was the bell. I'd clank that until I'd annoyed every adult around me. That was the only purpose it really served.
I loved rocket rods when I was a lil kid, me and my dad would always ride it up until it closed. I got to ride superstar limo which I didn't think was THAT bad, but mind you I was 7 years old and didn't know who 75% of the characters in the ride were xD I miss country bears and also doing a gameshow at innovations disneyland, which I got selected to participate in haha
I liked Rocket Rods even though I totally miss the people mover because I always enjoyed it. It still is a funny memory I have of going on Rocket Rods with my family and having the cast member in the Buzz Lightyear costume riding in front of us. When we got off the ride the ride operator said it was so the cast member could cool off wearing the suit in the heat and it also worked as good promotional stunt.
Crazily enough, I was expecting Les Pirouettes du Vieux Moulin at Disneyland Paris to be part of this, then I double-checked and it was operational for MUCH longer than I thought. It was a lovely little ride with the worst capacity EVER.
You can see the Rocket Rods running in the background of several shots in my dad’s home video of my first trip to Disney. I can vaguely remember wanting to go on them and my mom’s reasons for saying no was that I was too little and that they looked unsafe. 😂
I miss the attraction Discovery River-Boats was GOING to be; where we finally got to see an animatronic dragon, unicorn, and troll! (etc) Too bad Universal finally beat 'em to the punch...
I used to LOVE having two Autopias! Used to go back and forth riding them! Hated when they combined them. Felt like they only kept part of it and no tunnels.
I loved the "Kitchen Cabaret" iteration of Food Rocks. Also the Delta Dreamflight, which was replaced with Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, was a very cool and relaxing slow ride. It's still the same track now I think, just with a new overlay.
I don't keep a lot of hope for Disney attractions these days, especially with Imagineer lay-offs, but one thing remains universal: we all keep hope for Dreamfinder and Figment. They deserve that last little spark. ✨
I remember riding Flying Tires in 2012 during the lands first Christmas. It didn't work very well at all and we only moved a little bit. I did get one of those awesome tire hats from it though!
I just wish they'd have left the Fountain and the Fountain View alone. The Fountain View was always our first stop coming into Epcot. Best place in all of Disney World to people watch and have some coffee.
I remember seeing #1 at EPCOT on my only visit in 1986. Fun fact: the guy with the bowtie holding the microphone on the left of the screen at 10:36 is Ronald Reagan, before he became Governor of California and later President of the United States. Great video, Offhand!
Dude, are you high? Early Epcot futureworld was a completely different park. Every nook and cranny was magical. World of Motion, Original Imagination Pavilion, spaceship earth exit pavilion, Universe of energy exit pavilion, Communicore, on and on and on
Yeah i was surprised he said that considering he never experienced old epcot. Watching live ride thru videos or such doesn't do justice. You had to experience it back then.
AT Epcot I did a behind the scenes tour in the early 80's, they showed us the "Start of the ART" computers used to run animitronics. I was an Old Dec PDP8 probably 10 years old at the time, I hadn't seen one since High School.
I would go on Superstar limo with my cousin's who were child actresses, they loved Superstar Limo, when they actually had real movie premieres they compared it to the Movie premieres.
We’ll I got to ride 2 of the rides. Tire ride, and Journey. You can still ride the Discovery river boats to this day. The boats go to Fort Wilderness to the Magic Kingdom.
i actually had the displeasure of riding the rocket rods when i was little on one of my first trips to disneyland. we waited way too long in the hot sun for a ride that would quickly speed up and slow down giving me whiplash every time and feeling like it never truly 'got started' and despite being only four years old i can remember very clearly, that it sucked. sadly that's one of my only memories from that trip to disney :/ but the other is walking through the castle! so i've got that one at least.
Yeah he missed that one. It was called something else before that too. Not the Phantom Boats because they added a track under the water. I think it was called something like the Fantasyland Boats prior to the Gummy Bears addition. They really need to do something with this part of the park. Frozen is rumored. And the Fantasyland Autopia got changed to Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers before being combined into one giant Autopia attraction, though two separate tracks still exist depending on stand-by or FP entrances. KUNGALOOSH!!!

Where is everybody?" We had the misfortune to ride on Superstar Limo. It was...different. I have mourned when we have lost certain Disney rides. That one, never.
10:16 Offhand Disneyland : I hope that something better comes along
Me : *Did he not notice the accidental muppets reference?*
You were also not blasted with skunk spray in the original Journey into imagination. I feel that perfectly shows you how much better it was
Walt wasn't soft-testing the Viewliner for the monorail.
My favorite not so short lived ride still is the people mover, it was great mid-day ride for the summer....... Great video.........
Great vid, Dallin.
Enjoyed this one!
I like Jumping Jellies! As some one who can't do Tower of Terror/Mission Breakout, it's kind of fun to have something similar that I can do.
I seriously just love your content so much! You put so much personality in your videos! Your commentary is what makes it so enjoyable. Keep up the great work!
I have an e ticket from 1967 when i was 5 , the monorail was my favorite ride.
Rocket rods was kool.i remember riding them lol
-Satan
I wish I could ride them, even more that the people mover
I love the little video game muffled fart sound when presenting the line up.
How dare they mock my imagination, I have a great imagination than Journey in your Imagination.
Sorry, I just want to let it out.
The maliboomer at dca! I nearly passed out on that.
When I saw the man from the Astuter Computer Revue and SMRT-1 I really can’t tell you how fast I clicked..
The dude's name is Earlie the Pearlie.
I miss the attraction Discovery River-Boats was GOING to be; where we finally got to see an animatronic dragon, unicorn, and troll! (etc) Too bad Universal finally beat 'em to the punch...
How I miss the old Epcot Center from the 80’s!!! So much better than the theming mess that became Future World today!!!!!
The intro makes me so happy
RIP Maelstrom
You're so cool! Earlie is a cute Pearlie! I love him! My fave is Astuter. 💜
Horizons was a triumph, good sir! Good day to you! :)
Im gonna go with Mission To Mars or Adventure Through Inner Space .
I used to LOVE having two Autopias! Used to go back and forth riding them! Hated when they combined them. Felt like they only kept part of it and no tunnels.
Can I just say this channel makes me so happy :)
I loved the "Kitchen Cabaret" iteration of Food Rocks. Also the Delta Dreamflight, which was replaced with Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, was a very cool and relaxing slow ride. It's still the same track now I think, just with a new overlay.
That bwop noise is great. Thanks for the videos!!!
I remember going on Luigi’s Flying Tires in the time it was open! Blows my mind to realize it’s been closed for a few years already.
Happy belated birthday Bob. Love that guy.
I don't keep a lot of hope for Disney attractions these days, especially with Imagineer lay-offs, but one thing remains universal: we all keep hope for Dreamfinder and Figment. They deserve that last little spark. ✨
Eisner.....................................................................
YOU BROKE THE PEOPLEMOVER!!!!!!!!😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠
I remember riding Flying Tires in 2012 during the lands first Christmas. It didn't work very well at all and we only moved a little bit. I did get one of those awesome tire hats from it though!
Honestly the pile of rubble was an upgrade from Innoventions.
I just wish they'd have left the Fountain and the Fountain View alone. The Fountain View was always our first stop coming into Epcot. Best place in all of Disney World to people watch and have some coffee.
Man, you went straight for the throat with Jumpin Jellyfish
I remember seeing #1 at EPCOT on my only visit in 1986. Fun fact: the guy with the bowtie holding the microphone on the left of the screen at 10:36 is Ronald Reagan, before he became Governor of California and later President of the United States. Great video, Offhand!
I was wondering if that was Ronald Reagan.
I loved the people mover!
At least we have the Disney world people mover
Aww rocket rods again "YOU BORKED THE PEOPLE MOVER YOU BORKED THE PEOPLE MOVER!"
Bring the people mover back!
I remember loving the Gummy Bear boat ride one year, then it was gone the next year and I was very disappointed.
