I love the way the short guy reacts when you say "We really should have lowered these benches for some of us..." @ 2:40 and finally I have found that the mosquito repellent "OFF" is great at removing several markings easily like crayons, markers paint ETC (When u mention removing the markers of the vehicles

    I'm particular, I love the guide marks. Atleast it proves the job was done. Triumph's from the factory make their way to the dealerships with paint marks all over the bike. It should be law for any mechanic when he does a job that the markings should be visisble for every nut and bolt he touched for the client and foreman to see. It's part of a visual checklist! Time saving aswell, how many times have I gone over a bike and give it a second verification before it goes on the road, paint marks eleviate that doubt and you see after time if anything has moved. Great job Shane!

    Hello Shawn & thank you to you & your students for this priceless knowledge. One question...for the sake of killing the static on the subject. That torque sequence your student sounded off. It is my understanding that those bolts are to be worked from the stabilizer mount between the cylinders OUTWARD ...so if you're sitting on the bike , and installing the front head, , you would torque down the rear most short bolt , then the front short bolt is #2 , then diagonally to the rear long bolt being #3, and front long bolt as #4. Torqued (ft lbs) 14, 22, 35, 42. Then rear cylinder front short bolt #1 rear short bolt #2 front long bolt #3 rear long bolt #4 torqued to the same values. Is that incorrect ? Or does it get filed under "1000 ways to skin a cat" & is deemed acceptable?

    I tried to put the heads on very carefully but put marks in freshly decked heads from the Dow pins and you did the same thing perhaps worse. I went on a angle but should have tried from left side of the bike instead of the right. Any suggestions on how to get them lined up perfect as to not scratch the sealing surface ?

      Rico Watson......Buy a manual for your bike If its a Harley buy it from Harley.
      While removing the bolts lightly unscrew each bolt a little bit in the correct sequence until they are all loose.
      That way you don't warp the head. Install the new bolts the same way, In sequence a little at a time . Torque the head bolts in sequence a little at a time until torque is met.
      Removing bolts
      on a hot Alum head will destroy the threads.

    Hey Shane! Paco from Mexico once again!! I´m gonna ask a really really stupid question and I´m pretty sure I know the answer but here I go.
    On a 02 FXDWG with a very rusty screws, I ordered a fancy Colony chrome screws, do I have to remove all apart and change gaskets on the heads? (I know I´m on a half of the way and that are old ones) or just change the screws one by one on the exact sequence and torque and pry to Odin don´t have leaks the next 2 years tops????
    On the next days I´m gonna change the rocker box gaskets for leaks and when i saw the screws I though "what if I just do this"!
    Anyway, I know a good technique dictates do everything fine and once for all but I just wonder and take this opportunity to say hello!

    that snap-on torque wrench is very expensive, unless you do this for a living, the old school way is just as good..the head bolts are factory scribed , so just make your mark at 90 deg & wrench it on over to the mark... easy! he is right about paying strict attention to the head gaskets, too big a job to re-do.

    • @peppedpd
      @peppedpd 7 лет назад

      I will do this job quite soon.
      What is the risk about the gaskets?

    • @goyeabuddy
      @goyeabuddy 7 лет назад

      peppedpd -- use the shop Manuel, u-tube is helpful & if you haven't done that job before, take pictures of disassembly. pictures are worth a 1000 words. never reuse a gasket, gaskets are too cheap & always pre-install gaskets to make sure no oil holes are covered.. good-luck!

      Thanks for the reply.
      I am always careful and meticulous when i am dealing with sensitive issues.
      I could just not figure out what can go wrong with the head gasket. Two guidepins secure the position and four bolts are going throug it.
      Mobile camera, as you say, is really helpful. Most helpful for me is it when i do electrical jobs.
      Exiting these days as i am pretty soon to put everything together. 88" (TC88, 1999) will be 95", the heads will be ported. Is it correct to say "ported" when the inlet size in increased..? howewer. Bigger inlet valve, 1,9" and new cams. Andrews 21N (conversion). SE pistons flat tops.
      A new cam plate HD 2007-up so i get rid of the old tensioners and a better oil pump. Ingition box DYNA TC88 on top of everything.
      This will give me a strong engine, but easy start and not much wear or noise from aggresive cams and things like that.
      Looking forward to the spring, as where i live we have something we call winter. That is a terrible thing.

    • @goyeabuddy
      @goyeabuddy 7 лет назад

      sounds like you are putting that engine together
      the right way... Harley's 'weak' link on the tc's we're those spring cam tensioners from '99 thru '06.. Harley uses hyd tensioners now. i haven't heard too many complaints about them. gear 2 gear is another option for you.. i re-used my stock pushrods, i hate having to adjust stuff all the times! lol... good luck with your engine & drop me a line when you get er done! c-ya
