INCREDIBLE. How things have changed for the better! I took this trip as a student in the 70s!! A couchette (sleeping 4) from Gare d'Orleans-Austerlitz to Hendaye, Change trains ( because of the difference in track guage) then a Spanish train to Madrid; now you can do it in one day! Same distance, half the time. We are so far behind in rail travel in the US! So sad. We have so many cities in the US close enough to beat flying when you consider getting to and from the airport, plus waiting time. From downtown NY to downtown Chicago, high speed rail could do it every competitively. (and without damaging the ecology!)
Europe is ahead but compared to Japan it’s nothing! There they have really mastered train travel and it’s so much easier than to fly. You just need the initial output!!
I had to do this journey in reverse after being marooned with no luggage (only a work laptop and credit cards!) in Madrid. Always loved the TGV, but if anything the TVE are even nicer. Have to say I found such friendly and helpful people at (Mariott) hotels and Atocha and Gare de Lyon stations, and the smooth and comfortable journeys, that what could have been a drama turned out OK
A very enjoyable video to watch - have had this train journey on my 'bucket list' for some time - hopefully will be able to travel to Europe again soon. Thank you for inspiring me to again do this train trip!
there is no train Madrid Paris Austerlitz or viceversa any more. The train leaving Madrid or Paris at 6 or seven in the afternoon was very popular and after some sleep you arrived in Madrid or Paris about 9 or 10 in the morning. Now you have to take different trains and it is not practical, unless you want to go to Barcelona or Lyon for some reason
Biz
I was just able to book Paris-Barcelona-Madrid-Sevilla for March, with Paris-Barcelona in 1st class, for just €67.70. I almost couldn't believe it was so cheap. I'm looking forward to it already!
@@SilentTraveler1 Sure, but this is cheaper than usual, I think. Barcelona-Madrid-Sevilla on regular AVE trains, usually costs more than the €18.70 I paid.
Amazing to see the compliance with the restrictions still being made and people actually wearing face masks. In Scotland on public transport the vast majority do wear them but on trains they are not so good at keeping them on once the train leaves the station. I caught and fell ill with covid last Christmas eve and I still think that it's due to no conductor ever coming through the train to ask passengers to comply.
You caught Covid because it is in the air, period…no amount of masks will prevent people from catching it. When will people realize that truth??? Just get vaccinated or if you are too afraid stay home…
How sad that a nine-hour trip in a first class train does not apparently even have a dining car option. “ Snacks”? No hot food? My how times have changed.
What’s the price going to make this trip but inverted from Madrid to Paris, I’m looking for ticket prices, not necessarily first class, I’m on a budget.
Вероятно, в итоге, электрическая мощность обходится в меньшее количество затрат чем механическая мощность, поэтому электропоезда экономичнее чем дизельные поезда.
What a great trip. In conclusion, we can make a trip from Paris to Madrid or vice versa by high speed train in single day. Next how about making a bus trip again or trying ferry trip.
Instead of changing in Barcelona you can probably change in Avignon for the Madrid Train AVES100 or Figures Vilafant for AVE S103 to Madrid Atocha. SNCF Elipsos does offer Madrid Atocha from Marseille St Charles via Aix en Provence
True, people may go from Paris to Barcelona by train but rarely from Paris to Madrid. I am just doing it as a part of my journey called London to Africa I am releasing soon.
I also thought that...I don't feel encouraged to use the train like this, considering traveling with the family, but I suppose there are less expensive trains or other means of transportation.
This price is not always what you have mentioned.I just bought a ticket : Paris-Barcelona in TGV in first class for 1 of March at 89 euros!so it depends on the season and if it is a long time before you travel: four months before your departure and the prices are interesting!
I imagine it's a longer trip by train too. That was almost 10 hours not counting the time to switch trains. One can fly from Paris to the Caribbean in that same time.
Oh, definitely yes! The AVE looks much more modern and the seats fancier like a plane's first class. They're probably easier on the lower back as well. Spain has spent billions on high speed trains in the past 30 years so now it has the largest network in Europe. AVE should take the initiative to expand the network between Iberia, Italy, the Balkans, Greece, and Turkey not only to make high-quality, long distance travel easier but to unify the huge Mediterranean market! Can't wait for that to happen!
There should be common European high speed rail between Britain, France ,Germany ,spain, italy.. Istanbul should also get connectivity with London with HSR. China has done impossible. European union can also achieve
Prices for tickets terribly expensive. Not complimentary snacks nor drinks in even first class terrible. No hot food, just snacks in restaurant car terrible. Covid is not a problem. Oh mon dieu ç'est dégueulasse!
No! I bought a ticket for the journey : Paris-Barcelona for 1 of March2022 and I paid 89 euros in first class; It depends when you buy your ticket: I bought it four months before : that’s the reason of this price; and before for then29 th of September I bought my ticket for a TGV from Barcelona to Paris in first class also at 59 euros! The reason was that it was not in a frequent period of traveling.
@@SilentTraveler1 Please do your research then. If you had planned ahead you could have had the ticket for as little as 89Euros. You criticise SNCF but don't even bother to check these things.
High Speed Rail between Paris and Madrid was made via Barcelona. (More profitable). The classic route via San Sebastian are partial high speed and regular railway.

How long was the total trip time, was it all in the same day?
total 9 hours, no not same day but could easily be

Hello, did you have to go through the security scanners when boarding the train from Barcelona to Madrid? Or just the ticket scanners?
All travelers go through Security scanner at the entrance of station
My dream trip
I didn't see it when you bought a Madrid ticket. Did you buy it at the same time as a transfer?
Yes in advance on the internet, a paperless ticket
What restrictions are in place currently in terms of traveling to other countries via train if you are visiting from the US?
By train no restriction. By flight must be vaccinated
