  • I've owned these Eachine EV800D bit.ly/395PdNK for a while now. However the battery life is poor, so this is how I crammed in a pair of 3400mAh 18650 li-on batteries AND we also fit in a XT60 connector for at the field charging. The box goggles, ok, but you need the 3D printed extender for them, the screen, very good!

    Update: This has been a definite marked improvement. The 3400mAh batteries last for ever now and the field charging is a huge bonus. Believe it or not it's o my been recently that I have actually used a screen like this and I must admit, it's not bad at all! Hope the follow up helps. Matt

    I kept my solution simple. I bought a USB-to-2.5x0.7mm barrel connector cable for $2.50, cut the USB end off and replaced it with an XT60. When my internal goggles battery gets low in the field, I can just grab a random LiPo, put it in my back pocket, and plug it in. The charge port will take 11-20V, so 4S is totally fine. I did have to build a 1-foot extension since the even the longest cables for sale on eBay were still a little too short to reach my butt on their own.
    The EV800D's used to come with a 3S balance plug adapter (though mine didn't), so they kind of expected people to extend battery life in this way.

    • @marcoplanas1
      @marcoplanas1 4 года назад +1

      I can put a lipo 4s directly to the charging port that does not break?

    • @zorilla0
      @zorilla0 4 года назад +1

      @@marcoplanas1 Yes, even a storage charged 5S is technically fine (though I wouldn't risk it on the off chance it happens to be charged higher). You will need to keep an eye on your LiPos to make sure you don't over-discharge them. If the DC input on these goggles has a low voltage cutoff, it's going to be geared toward 3S only and will continue to draw power well below 14V.

    Matt..warning.. that original battery has an internal BMS board that balances the two cells when charging, and it has LVC when empty to prevent over discharge.
    You can extract the board from the old battery to repurpose it, but I wouldn't recommend charging straight series. Also, the terminal charge voltage before that BMS may be half a volt higher at end of charge as the BMS clamps to 4.2..

    • @RagTheNutsOff
      @RagTheNutsOff  4 года назад +2

      I'm not updating it. It'll be fine. They're li-on cells and will sort themselves out over time. Gotta be a good 100 uses in them or more before it could be a mild concern. Matt

    I’ve upgraded mine now too, with 2 x 18650 batteries in an eachine adapter and barrel connector. However after using for 30 mins the battery on the display was showing 1 bar however the actual charge on the holder for the 18650’s said 3 out of 4 bars. Do you have to make a change to the battery voltage actually on the display so it shows the correct bars based on whichever battery you’re using?

    I recommend adding kapton tape to entire back of the screen. The back of the screen looks like thin-steel or aluminum, and it's is conductive. One youtuber demonstrated in his battery mod video that this metal back is charged at something like 5v, so it causes bad interference if the screen touches the circuit board. (It was happening to me.) Yeah, so about 2 or 3 single layer pieces of kapton tape did the trick! (depending on the width of the tape. I think I have a roll of 2" wide kapton.) I hope this helps someone!

    This is a bit of a dangerous mod you have done here. You disconnected the PCB from the unit(it is in the battery pack) You can do this exactly as you have displayed, but only if you bought 18650's with internal protection. The much better solution is to wire up your batteries instead with a balance PCB and then go from that to your xt60 connector. They are thin enough that it should still fit if mounted on the side. If you want to get real pro, mount the balance pcb inside the unit, and then run the wire from that to a female xt60 or barrel plug mounted in the case. Then run a long wire with your chosen male connector to a battery pack on the back of the strap or to your pocket. This will take weight/leverage off of the front of the unit, and make the goggles more comfortable.

    • @RagTheNutsOff
      @RagTheNutsOff  3 года назад
