JENNY! So great to see you (and Ruby!) here. This is what I needed today… I’ve been in a bit of a slump since camp (the jeans disaster really took the wind out of my sails) and this has gotten me to commit to getting my machine out this weekend and make *something*… anything.
    I appreciate you!

Hi Cameron! Sometimes we need a little distance before we can jump back in. I totally get it!

I stopped sewing for a year due to a fail. It was so disheartening and scary for me to plunge back in. It was devastating to self draft and sew my perfect IG inspired dress to realise the style looked like a sack on me. Just starting now on some smaller projects to get my confidence back! Wish i had this a year ago xx

Thank you for having this conversation! I’ve been having issues just like this! I just started sewing again, and I’m trying to approach it with a new attitude.

I started sewing and I have gotten good extremely fast. I just realized that if I judge myself I just laugh at my mistakes. A month ago I was just learning to do leggins and I sewed the pattern that I *myself* made. I was feeling soooooo good, "the most intelligent"... my ego was fired up. I finished sewing and I realized I had sewn a huge leg instead of 2 legs... Ahahahaha I felt ashamed because I genuinely felt I was doing it great. It doesn't matter if you make mistakes, this is a skill, it will be learned by practice.

Go you for making your own pattern!! What an amazing learning opportunity!

Phew i'm glad I found this video. I've always joked about my work being seamstress nightmares, but after really struggling on a dress I took it to my regular tailor...she is a nice lady but i saw the way she died inside when looking at it 😭 and i rightfully got charged through the roof for the work.
It's shattered my confidence but now I've sat down and worked on a list of everything I've learned from my sewing mistakes specifically to remind myself that this is part of growth 😮‍💨 and fingers crossed the tailoring result will take some of the pain away!

It can be hard when our expectations are higher than our current skill level, but I think you're approaching this in such a good way. I think we make such leaps in learning through the errors we make, so sometimes it helps to stop and celebrate them as part of our growth instead of looking at them as something we are dong wrong.

@@SeamworkVideo thank you so much :) it's a new perspective for me but it's definitely a kinder way of looking at things. Today i'm getting back on the horse :)

I had not seen for about a year. I just started back up and bought a serger. I have been buying fabric at a local thrift store so I can practice and make my mistakes on the thrifted material before I buy new fabric for my projects.

Carly, I love your strategy of using secondhand materials!

Love your dress, what pattern is that?

Hi Shalo! Thanks for asking about my dress! It's a Workroom Social sewing pattern that I'm working on. I'm not sure when it'll be done. Fingers crossed soon!
