This is exactly why I like your channel (not the main reason - the main reason being your sewing (and you) is awesome); you keep things real!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I generally throw my sewing fail out my back door, with all I have in me, pour me a glass of wine and tell myself how that pattern / final look / fabric just didn't get me and it's not my fault, not "everyone" will like me followed by a vigorous online search for my next pattern / fabric buy.

The pink and black fabric is stunning! It looks like it’s beautifully drapey so I think it would make a great classic blouse if you don’t mind having leftovers as there looks like you have enough for a dress. I’ve just made 2x SOI Sylvia robes from some chiffons in my stash, one short and the other long, to wear with jeans and a tee. Sylvia is also a great sew-jo finder as it’s just a few rectangles sewn together….such a speedy make

This is such a good idea! I'll definitely have a go at the Sylvia robe as well

The first thing I sew was a shirt in my first sewing class several years ago. I was having such a hard time because the sleeve was not going on right. I actually cried while sewing it. It took me several timed until the shirt became unwareable. Fast forward to now. With experience and trial and error, I am much better at it.

Marlo sweater and a few of the big 4 bomber jacket patterns can be made in non stretch if you use ribbing for the cuffs/neckband

That’s good to know! Thanks for watching ☺️

I've been sewing for decades and made everything from swimsuits to wool winter coats. I just finished a knit top using a favourite pattern, happily tried it on and realized I made the entire thing on the lengthwise grain instead of the cross grain so no stretch across my shoulders and bust. Epic fail and such a rookie mistake!

We all do it! And it’s healthy to share so we don’t end up with unrealistic standards!

I'm definitely going to take on the idea of writing down your top makes. Even the thought of ticking them off is making me want to sew 🤣

Love this video, thank you for sharing. I recently had a complete hissy fit after attempting to make a fitted bodice, and failing! I decided to make a simple relaxed fit pair of dungarees instead. Which made me feel much better. Glad you have got your sew jo back. Looking forward to your next video.

Love your videos as always but sometimes I lose my motivation in going back into sewing, and I just want to know where you put your scissors to cut out the fabric

When I started sewing 40 years ago I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I decided to sew a bikini out of a small piece of scrap fabric. It was hard work, I finished it and then realised I should have used stretchy fabric for swimwear. It was a complete fail. But I kept sewing, got better, but was getting annoyed by patterns that didn’t fit me or patterns I wanted to alter. Then I decided to do a pattern drawing course. Now I only use a handful of wel fitting basic patterns and transform these into the fashionable patterns that are now around. Sometimes I will venture out to fit certain new styles in order to decide if it will suit me. Hardly any fails for me now.

I’ll be honest, the dress I made for sew yellow for endo… I don’t like it. I’ve tried and tried to make it work but… I don’t. So it’s back in my office and I’m turning it into a completely different shirt.

I'm sorry you didn't like the original but I'm glad you've found a new purpose for the garment!
