My dad ran his business with a Mac SE/30 and a Laser writer. Back in the pre internet days, paper was king, and owning a high quality printer and layout tools was absolutely critical. The quality of that setup rivalled a print workshop or traditional studio and it quickly paid for itself.
I had an Apple Color laser printer but my cats climbed on the shelf and killed it. I would like to have another one eventually. I love Mac and Apple ][ retro videos and games and my beloved SSI games. APPLE ][ FOREVER. I have an Apple ][, Enhanced ][E, ][C, 2- 2 GS, Interger based Apple `][ & an Apple ][ + and about 7 or 8 Macs, Imacs and Mac books, Ibooks, 4 Iphones and 3 Ipods. 2 Cinema Displays and a broken glass Thunderbolt display I found on the street I hope to get repaired.
My first laser was a Personal LW NT. I got it from the local recycle for $40 around 2000/2001. To this day I can accurately mimic the exact squeak pattern it made Whne printing.
Good tip on removing everything you can and inspecting the paper path. There really is nothing quite like the smell of rodent excrement and/or remains on a hot fuser. It's breathtaking. I suggest you try it.
I met an old Apple tech years ago, he said the Apple printers were far better than Lexmark printers, in the case they actually worked. But they were still Lexmark and there's reasons why we don't see those printers around anymore, and thus the reason Apple never sold printers after that. 🤣
I have two of these. One is yellowed and I'm not sure if it works. I'd like to get rid of it if anyone is interested. All I ask is for shipping (which will not be cheap considering they weigh a ton). Otherwise, I'm not sure what to do with it.
I’ve got a LW 16/600PS in my garage in a box for the last 26 years. I hope to plug it in during the summer and see what happens. If I was really bothered I should first take out the PSU and check the obvious things like Caps but I doubt these printers are worth anything anymore. Fingers crossed.
It'll likely work. The EX engine is pretty solid, also powered the LaserJet 4 series. The only weak point would be the portion from Apple, the main formatter board may have leaking SMD caps.
I wish someone would do a refurbish and repair video on the vintage Apple printers. I picked up a LaserWriter IInt that had sat for two decades. It’s very clean, but difficult to find much information beyond the original Apple Training video. Come on Steve! How about a printer refurb video?!
Sadly I'm not a printer expert, even if I was - my LaserWriter II doesn't work. These printers are based on Canon/HP and other engines, so the principals for those repairs would be the same. I'm sure there are some handy videos out there.
@@Mac84 There is not much out there and I am coming to the realization why. There are just so many variables with the errors that occur. I've replaced or repaired so many areas and I still have not gotten a single sheet of paper to print. I am stopping before it becomes a money pit. I have been successful at repairing so many vintage Macs but with this, I am hitting a wall. It just amazes me how these printers can die just from sitting. Love the videos you produce. Keep up the great work.
You can actually blame me for printer #1. That’s the one that I guilt tripped Steve into taking
I know you secretly snuck in my garage and put them all there… don’t lie!
@@Mac84 it’s not my fault your garage code is the same as my luggage. 6502
Honestly laserwriters and image writers where bad as heck for the time now they have aged oh lord in hell there problematic to say the least.
im glad I left early, or he would have locked me in the garage with Ron!

"Not this again...Steve!! STEEEEVVEE!!!" LMAO - genuine crack up :)
"this was done against my will" Steve 😂
Should have pulled an Office Space on those printers that wouldn't work.
Printers we all love to hate them lol!

Whats the turntable under the stack of stylewriters?
I still kind of want a LaserWriter IIg, we had one at home and my sister ruined it by putting a glitter card through and ruining the fuser forever.
The LBP-LX engine wasn't Canon's finest, but it sure was cheap!
Would love to see you do some in depth videos of Apple printers
the first printer did blink a bit at first start but that's it
NOOOO STEVE THOSE WERE STRUCTURAL!!?
Ah, what content. Three broken printers and a kidnapping.

Hahaha, literally tonight I'm recapping the non-working power supply on my Personal LaserWriter NTX. The caps were so leaky!
Oh no, good luck!
what about the laserwriter behind them with the rounded edge
I already knew the condition of that one, the Personal LaserWriter models were the only unknowns.
You should check to see if they didn't trip the breaker
Behind the scenes we plugged in an oscillating fan to the outlet, the breaker was not tripped.

I have the Apple dotmatrix printer in my garage. I bet it works!
I read that as Apple dominatrix - I might be a little over-tired
😂 Now I'm envisioning an Apple printer dressed like one, complete with whips, crops and leather. "The safe word is 'banana'." (oh dear) 🤣
"The safe word is..... BBRBRWWEEEEREEHHHHHHHEHEHHHHHH"
I remember buying a NT brand new for $500 when they first came out.
Not sure if we’ll ever see Ron again… hopefully those printer repairs go in his favor! 🤣
I love how you put the 3 incredibly heavy and very much dead printers back in the garage 😂
“To wait for an Apple printer collector with less discriminating tastes!”
Poor Ron.
I let him out... eventually... (It was great seeing you at the show!)
@@Mac84 Likewise! Check your email about the printer I said I was going to leave under your table. Oopsie.
Museum pieces 🤣
Well, there are still people out there who use HP Laserjet IIs (same Canon engine as these printers).
