- Max realized he can make sounds on the chair cushions with his beak. But I'm not allowed to do it. He has been learning things extremely fast the past few months and is always amazing me.
Dan: " Careful!"
Max: "Why?"

how do you resist the urge to snuggle and cuddle with him? He's so adorable!
He bites a little bit, that's probably how.
Out of all the parrots, cockatoos are known to be the biggest cuddlers. They are so soft.
Or just that he's actualy recording, and cuddling at other moments. Cockatoos are literaly to me the most easy birds to cuddle, they literaly sit their head on your neck sometimes, they love to be pet, because it's all about attention you give them.
You can also see when he "spank" him, that he's lifting his wing, it means he wants you to touch under it ! Our cockatoo literaly lift both his wings so you can pet it everywhere, and especialy on his back, under his wings, near his "tail kind part of the body" ( where it doesn't feel like feathers, but more like fur, even if it's not ) !
Amber Locked petting a parrot will make it very hormonal...and u really dont want that..only areas on a Bird that is ok to pet is feet and head

Sarah S. Yes! They are very much like toddlers! And they definitely cuddle. My blue & gold macaw named Indy, LOVES to cuddle! He will put his head on my shoulder and put one of his talons back in his mouth and suck on it just like a baby! The first time he did that I nearly fell over! I couldn't believe a bird would do that, but he did and I swear I did NOT teach him or encourage him to do that. I was shocked when he did it the first time. But now he does it whenever we cuddle. And he loves to cuddle.

You treat him really well and he looks like a very happy bird. I'm glad you know how to handle him! So many people go into owning a bird without knowing how to actually look after one, so you're like a breath of fresh air.

That's a really lovely comment, BlackDove, and it melts my heart to think of your boy's happiness and how precious that is as he takes his walk through life unlike many others. I have a special needs daughter and I'm very touched when people see her amazing smile and hear her outlook on life. People who don't know us or her will see her across a room or at the mall or wherever and will make a beeline to talk to her! Its incredible to watch. She's actually has physically healed some broken hearts because she's so good at listening and giving advice. I don't know what it is, but she just has this innate ability to make you instantly feel better no matter what your problem is. Quite a gift from an exceptional young lady who came into this world in both the worst and the most miraculous way - as a tiny preemie whose mother tried to hide the pregnancy from her abusive husband. She used drugs and alcohol. It was touch and go with the mom, but she let us adopt her tiny preemie. What an amazing sacrifice for a mother to protect her unborn child! Our little "preemie" is 31 this year and doing pretty well with both mind and body. We couldn't love her more than we do. Our whole family dotes on her and she has so many friends to hang out with!

Max's speech has really increased in the last 8 months. Saying complete sentences and correct replies to your questions.

Max learns very quickly and is very intelligent and he will keep trying you Dan to find out how much you'll let him get away with. I'm laughing here as my bird is nearly 22 years old and still does the same to me.

amadmavworld - Toolbox in a can? Well, in Max’ case it is in a jar and called coconut oil, great on cockatoo beaks and birdie tootsies! Makes beaks shiny and darker and toes nice and soft... ☺️

you know the thing I think I love the most about your videos is how comfortable and happy Max is. I can see that you've put a lot of work in, and poured your heart and soul, into making an environment that he can be healthy and stimulated in.
That's a really special thing to see in th videos. We do the best we can for our own birds, but we have a lot of learning to do still. Our little COckatiel has been laying eggs lately. It's odd!

Hey Dan, it is wonderful you give Max a great life. He should be in the wild, but things happen and he's not. We appreciate your sacrifice as Max, wonderful, cute and smart as he is, has to be a handful. and he's got a good 70 years to go. My Too does this on our bed. He runs around in circles with his beak down on the comforter.. it's hilarious. He also likes to get down on the floor and follow all the grout lines on the linoleum floor in the kitchen.
