‘The Act’ Star Joey King on Playing Gypsy Rose Blanchard: ‘I Feel Really Sorry for Her’

- After scoring big with Neflix’s “The Kissing Booth” last year, actress Joey King returns as Gypsy Rose Blanchard in Hulu’s anthology series “The Act.”
The stranger-than-fiction story centers around Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette), who suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a condition where a caregiver either fabricates or induces an illness in someone under their care to gain attention and sympathy.
“It was such a mentally challenging role for me,” King told TheWrap. “It required a lot of vulnerability.”

You have to remember that Hurricane Katrina happened. Many medical files were lost and so the doctors might not have thought it was weird if Gypsy was missing paperwork
They really did pick the perfect actress to play Gypsy. Everything was spot on to her voice, mannerisms, etc

She was a victim for 23 years of her life - but the memories of the abuse and torture will stay with her for the rest of her life.

The system failed gypsy. When all the signs were there. Only 1 doctor reported to DCFS that they suspected Dee Dee had Munchousin by proxy. Gypsy felt she had no one ro turn to cause her mother would punish her. She had her chained to a bed for 2 weeks cause she tried to run away. Her father was unsurprisingly supportive. Mother made him out to be a abusive alcoholic who abandoned her. Meanwhile the mother keepet her from him to keep her secret.

I saw a woman post a video online who said she was in prison for a little while with Gypsy and that she was the sweetest woman.
Joey King is amazing in The Act, very talented and gorgeous.
The show is soo good yet extremely sad. The last episode really had me tearing. I have a 9 year old and cannot imagine what Gipsy went through. Being able to walk and her mom restraining her to that wheel chair. The last clip of that episode made me cry. 😭
It is such a chilling greatly crafted series. Highly recommended!
I have looked into the case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and I will say that I find the sentence to be unreasonable I don't think that she deserves to spend 10 years of her life in prison. Don't get me wrong she should spend time in jail for having her mother killed. However 10 years in my mind will not help Gypsy, deal with the psychological trauma that was inflicted on her.
She had already spent over 20 years as a prisoner of her abusive mother. I agree

I think because of that mini serie she became really noticed now, Shes gonna be in Bullet Train directed by David Leitch, with stars like Brad Pitt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson

That "background music" is the worst version of stock music possible. Distracting, cheesy, over-the-top, and you need to fire somebody because the awesome interview was ruined by one bad editing decision.

Seeing Joey King in the movie “ that princess” Which is this strong character that she plays and it’s an action movie and she basically is fighting all the strong man and then seeing her play Dess vulnerable girl that’s in a wheelchair with this mousy voice and being subjected from her mother locked up basically ball and chain fell her mother is such a drastic change she is an incredible actor Joey King is
I have seen the act and Joey King was Amazing, patty Arquette was equally amazing, I have always felt terrible For Gypsy Rose & Nick Godajohn , Gypsy was victimized by her mother throughout her youth, and then victimized by the justice system, how much can one person endure??

I thought that at first too, then found out she tried to run away several times, but every time her mom found her and brought her back again and she was severely punished. No one would believe her if she filed complaints because her mom had convinced them. There was no way out
