The defense kicked off its case by calling Gypsy to talk about her mothers abuse, and took most of the blame on direct examination.

I feel like if Gyspsy where to ever get up and really take a stand for herself her mother would have killed her and blamed it on a sickness. Then her mother would have used Gyspsy’s death as a way to get more money; a life time supply of money. People would feel pity for her loss and keep donating out the ass. Imagine your parents feeding you through a tube in your stomach and making you have all these unnecessary surgeries. That's more than just abuse. That's torture. We have to be in the person's shoes to truely understand growing up that way. Your whole life. Most say it's easy to just get up and walk out but it's not. She would get hit and chained to the bed. Shit. Who don't be scared of their own parents? I was scared of my grandma when i would get in trouble. We going to act like if it's easy to just walk out from abuse. She is serving time and that's okay because well life has consequences but i hope once she gets out she finally gets to experience what freedom feels like and be able to start over. Shit i have scars in my life now because of my childhood. She needs some therapy and finally a chance to live like a normal person and not being forced to do things. People say "she was capable of this and that". Who said she wasn't? Her mother was the one making her.

I have two options about this case:
    1. The guy needs to be in a place where they treat his mental health issues, not just in jail for life.
    2. Gypsy has absolutely all my respect for owning up to everything she did and taking accountability for it. She deserves a second chance at life, it's not her fault her mother was such a troubled person.

Deven Oh, the prison where Gypsy is can't give her any therapy? I was really hoping that if she is going to be in prison, she would at least receive psychiatric help. She definitely needs it after everything that she went through with her mother. Surely something could be arranged! At the very least, a psychologist or therapist should be able to come to the prison and meet with Gypsy regularly. They must have some kind of private room somewhere where Gypsy and the therapist could be.

Gypsy is absolutely a victim. It doesn't have to be one or the other; being a victim doesn't necessarily mean that you are completely innocent. It is possible to acknowledge that Gypsy was the victim of very severe physical and mental abuse, without saying that she doesn't also deserve some of the blame for the murder. The relationship between Gypsy and Godejohn was complicated. Gypsy did not have any kind of role model for a healthy relationship and her mother did her best to isolate Gypsy and keep her from making friends and dating. Gypsy would have had to communicate with her boyfriend in secret regardless of whether or not he was a good guy. Godejohn seems to have been a very troubled guy and to a certain extent he took advantage of Gypsy's naivety and her desperation to escape from her situation. Even if she, out of frustration and desperation, asked him to kill her mom, he could have said no. He could have helped her escape from the house and he could have helped her to report her mother's crimes with the police. Just because Gypsy asked him to kill her mom, it doesn't mean that she forced him to actually go through with it.

Her mother had everyone convinced that Gypsy was mentally stunted and that she couldn't mske her own decisions. She told people her signs of abuse were things related to the illnesses she had. Weight loss from starvation Dee Dee said was from her medications. Bruises from beatijgs she said were from various medical tests and needles because her skin was fragile...
Even when Gypsy reached out for help from medical staff her mother quickly pulled her from those offices and moved to other towns or even states under the guise of "bettwr treatment." Dee dee even had her bio father convinced that she was mentally like 7 and was fragile and that was why he couldn't visit her.
This was basically a hostage situation where the mother was so manipulative and so horrible that she was able to get away with what she was doing for years with no results in favor of gypsy. Gypsy should not have gotten the sentence she did and the fact that she says prison is better than life with her mother shows how bad she had it. This poor girl has never truly been free

The people who starred in The Act need to get an award because of how well acted it was. And I feel bad for Gypsy because of what she went through. It is sad that having her mother murdered was the only way of escaping from her abuse.

Unpopular opinion: Gypsy deserved her sentence. She could have easily notified the police of what was going on, instead she made a plan to kill her mother. She could have been free and her mother could have been behind bars instead. But she chose wrong. I hope she learns something from being in prison.

G.R should of never been locked up she seriously has mental problems that her mother coached her form the very begining she has no fault she was not breathing she blew up eventually she would have because that's a normal response but not the act of her mothers death and needs mental help and bring her back to reality she's innocent her mother was a monster and so is her boyfriend way of thinking

I fucking love how the justice system works. If a rapist is caught he gets a few years in the jail. If someone who kills an innocent kid often gets through the whole jail with a small sentence. Here a girl who has been through hell has been jailed is just crazy to me.

I feel so bad for gypsy. She was a victim of abuse for years. And you can see from this video that she takes a lot of the blame for it and in other interviews she’s said she feels remorse and you can just see it in her face she means it. She was put into a awful situation.
