"Scraping ice off the windshield with a piece of broken tail light" "Scraping ice off the windshield, freezing. I'm late for work again, another double shift" the parallels are all over this album
+Yifan Wu The lunch with your sister bit makes me do a mental double take every time, like I'm not sure if I'm listening to The Wonder Years or Aaron West
First time listening to this stream and this one song has already got me excited to hear the rest. It's definitely a nice chance of pace and a brilliant concept.
RockME AllDeus dude listen. People who love/appreciate music will more than likely love many types of music. The wonder years is a pop punk band and Dan is the singer of that band. That does not mean that every piece of music he writes in his life is for the wonder years. Aaron west is a totally different band something that he wanted to share with people. It's just good music he made that didn't fit the wonder years sound, nothing egotistical about that.
RockME AllDeus But the Beatles Did have side projects both John Lennon and Paul Mccartney released songs that weren't Beatles songs and the Beatles songs still were awesome even though they had side projects.
+RockME AllDeus technically Dan did this project with some members of his band not all of them, but he made this side project to see if he could tell a story with an album not related to the wonder years. Aaron West is a character not a name. It's the story of a man and the worst year of his life. :)
+RockME AllDeus Aaron west was never meant to be a side project. Soupy started writing songs to expand himself as a writer and guitarist. they were never meant to be released until he was encouraged to do so by friends.
pictured our apartment In the middle of Brooklyn I pictured the bedroom And how the floor's still a mess Well, I pictured your office in mid-town Manhattan I pictured you walking in, I bet you're late again But your make-up's straight, and you're smiling It's just like it's always been [Verse 2] I had lunch with your sister And she told me it's over That you're calling your lawyers, that you're not coming back She says that she's sorry Your whole family likes me She don't know what you're thinking, but she knows that it's bad So, I walked back home, turned the shower on I let the washing machine turn the water cold [Chorus] I'll read it over again-the lines of the note you left I keep hoping that I'll forget That the words changed while I slept But I've got my doubts You're staying at your parents house Well I'm sleeping on the couch I can't stand our bed without you [Verse 3] I found enough of your hairpins to build you a monument A statue to loneliness. Breathe it in. Let it go I caved a piece of the drywall in Replaying the argument I'm icing my swollen fist. It's a lie and this isn't a home, no, no I'm just skin and bones I broke my cell phone Cause it won't fucking tell me when you're coming home [Chorus] I'll read it over again-the lines of the note you left I keep hoping that I'll forget That the words changed while I slept But I've got my doubts You're staying at your parents house Well I'm sleeping on the couch I can't stand our bed without you SHARE THE LYRICS

I like this sound, but part of it just sounds like a Americana version of the Wonder Years. This song sounds like it could easily be a Wonder Years song if you just up the tempo and electric guitars. The lyrics aren't Americana at all!
iris missingconsistency in what way does this sound like mayday parade?? I love both bands, but I don't see any similarities between Mayday and anything Soupy does
The "it won't fucking tell me when you're coming home" immediately won me over
"I can't stand our bed without you"
"I can't stand any dead space, empty beds bum me out"
"I had lunch with your sister and she told me it's over"
"You've got lunch with your sister tomorrow so we can't be up late"
Yifan Wu haha I noticed that lunch with your sister thing too, nice little nod or just coincidence :)
"Scraping ice off the windshield with a piece of broken tail light"
"Scraping ice off the windshield, freezing. I'm late for work again, another double shift"
the parallels are all over this album
"You're holding sparklers, silhouettes by porch lights on a summer evening."
"I grew up on your back porch" in dismantling summer.

Soupy has astronomically progressed as a musician.
So excited the stream is finally up omg.
Damn, the hairpin line hits hard.
I fell in love right at 0:43, man. So excited to get this album.
I've listened to this playlist countless times already. Can't wait to own the actual CD. Fantastic album.

Alice Renee same
Same but it’s only been 2 days
I love that people still don't know that Aaron West is a character and the singer is Dan Campbell from the wonder years.
Really shows how far Dan came when writing this album, doesn't it?

Bought this cd from Soupy at warped tour in Camden and love it everything he writes is so good
holy shit, a song has never hurt so bad
This album would make a great movie. I need a music video for this and St. Joe. Hopeless Records
I'm laughing because I love this song so much ... I'm so happy and so in love with it I'm actually laughing.
this is kind of the last song you should be laughing at...
YHofSuburbia sorry not everybody laughs at the right times
Joe Pontiac brilliant ha
Joe Pontiac
lmao
Joe Pontiac Some people laugh even with devil´s riffle on their front porch btw
I love this song!! I listen to it 10 times a day
pictured our apartment
In the middle of Brooklyn
I pictured the bedroom
And how the floor's still a mess
Well, I pictured your office in mid-town Manhattan
I pictured you walking in, I bet you're late again
But your make-up's straight, and you're smiling
It's just like it's always been
[Verse 2]
I had lunch with your sister
And she told me it's over
That you're calling your lawyers, that you're not coming back
She says that she's sorry
Your whole family likes me
She don't know what you're thinking, but she knows that it's bad
So, I walked back home, turned the shower on
I let the washing machine turn the water cold
[Chorus]
I'll read it over again-the lines of the note you left
I keep hoping that I'll forget
That the words changed while I slept
But I've got my doubts
You're staying at your parents house
Well I'm sleeping on the couch
I can't stand our bed without you
[Verse 3]
I found enough of your hairpins to build you a monument
A statue to loneliness. Breathe it in. Let it go
I caved a piece of the drywall in
Replaying the argument
I'm icing my swollen fist. It's a lie and this isn't a home, no, no
I'm just skin and bones
I broke my cell phone
Cause it won't fucking tell me when you're coming home
[Chorus]
I'll read it over again-the lines of the note you left
I keep hoping that I'll forget
That the words changed while I slept
But I've got my doubts
You're staying at your parents house
Well I'm sleeping on the couch
I can't stand our bed without you

Bought this album today and I love it. Its so good.
It's like if The Wonder Years and The Mountain Goats collaborated. i love it.
+Robert Its the wonder years singer doing a solo album
I know. I'm not a moron. I said it sounds LIKE. I know it's not. But if you mix the two sounds, this is what you would get.
Dan has said that the mountain goats are one of his favorite bands of all time and that they were one of the main inspirations while writing aaron west
this is the kind of shit i lay in an ice cold bath and weep while listening to.
this man is a lyrical genius.

Amazing... I miss you Maria. I haven't told you yet, but god do I love you .

2:50 made me sob
"I broke my cell phone, cause it won't f**king tell me when your coming home!" I love that part
I love thissss
i am ugly crying to this song rn
"I'm just skin and bones" Aaron must listen to Real Friends
It's like the lovechild of The Wonder Years and R.E.M. and it's perfect
The Hitchhiking Hatbox where are you getting R.E.M.?
TJ2044 It just reminds me of R.E.M. in terms of melodic choices and some of the instrumentation. :)
Damn.
This is the emo music ppl in their late 20s and 30s can relate to
Almost 10 years later. Dead Leaves hits like a truck, and this is where it all started.
I'm just skin and bones. Sounds like a real friends reference.
I though the same thing
aaron west has an exceptional music taste
agreed
megan tucker
Aaron West is a fictional character haha. Dan Campbell from The Wonder Years is the singer for this band.
I know. and this is an album about the worst year of his life
Our house vs our apartment
I need the cover photo , for science .

Thank you , so , so much .
I’m just skin and bones...I broke my cell phone, cause it won’t fucking tell me when you’re coming home.
Throw a WOOO on the end of the cellphone line for extra feelies.
I like this sound, but part of it just sounds like a Americana version of the Wonder Years. This song sounds like it could easily be a Wonder Years song if you just up the tempo and electric guitars. The lyrics aren't Americana at all!
+bigtakeshi Its the main singer from wonder years solo album.....
That was the whole point with this project
Pop punk lyrics and Americana sound
bigtakeshi I'm sorry but this comment had me rolling on the floor haha.
The music is nearly counter intuitive to the lyrics
this sounds like mayday parade
and some parts nevershoutnever.
iris missingconsistency in what way does this sound like mayday parade?? I love both bands, but I don't see any similarities between Mayday and anything Soupy does
