- The Story Introduction To My Fifth LP Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Story:
One day, Princess Toadstool, or Peach, is on a trip to Rougeport, the town of pirates, theives, and other assorted criminals. Peach's trusted caretaker Toadsworth is, of course, making sure she stays out of trouble-but he is also not letting her have any fun. So she sneaks away while she is not looking at and a street vendor catches her eye. The mysterious vender tells her that he has a box that only a purehearted person can open, and inside is the key to vast treasure! Peach succeeds in opening the box, which contains a map. She sends the map and a letter to Mario...but by the time he gets to Rougeport, Peach is gone! Mario begins to search for her, and eventually discovers that the map can lead to the seven Crystal Stars-the mystical keys to opening a door far beneath Rougeport that is said to contain the greatest treasure in the world-The Thousand-Year Door! Mario then sets off to gather the stars, and find Peach. Along the way, he meets new friends and makes new enemies-all in his quest to open the Thousand-Year Door!

I’m here after the HD remaster for Switch is announced. The intro song had me tearing up and reminding me of my childhood, this game is very special to me, and I know it is special for many people. Cheers to TTYD on Switch!!!
Same here. Can't wait for the new version on Switch!
they just dropped the new trailer that shows the storybook intro and its even better now. wont spoil it if your sensitive to that info tho
TTYD got a remake, not a remaster which are two different things.
@@agustinhernandezrivas-jp7jk it’s not even worth mentioning. There are few who know the difference between those words. There are people that think Windwaker HD is a remake and Links Awakening is a remastered. Not even worth tryna correct
This is the best Paper Mario game
yea
Imo best Mario game. The other games gave you so much flexibility to toy around and play with the game's physics, but this one establishes such an outstanding atmosphere with so much life. Sure 64 and Super offered it as well, but this had the initial RPG backbone with the perfect polish to perfect what 64 started.
I like the original more but TTYD is still one of my favorite RPGs
I prefer SPM but this is amazing
Shame they might not go back to style
@@multifandomfangirl9664 It looks like they are now! The remake is on the way!!! 🥳🥳🥳
There is no better feeling then booting this up for the first time in over a decade, and then hearing that drum roll start up.

The way I literally SCREAMED at the first sight of that book and the first few notes of the opening theme in the Direct.
The nostalgia is real af
It's coming back as a remake on the switch
Who’s ready to visit the Thousand Year Door again?!
Here after Nintendo released the intro story for the remake.
Man, did they make it a lot more impactful there, like you were living through the story. It was so beautiful as well!
Yep. I did the same
"Paper Mario was always about paper"
Also Paper Mario:
Shigeru took the western name "Paper Mario" too literally, to me this is and will always be "Mario Story", a pop-up fairytale book that you can play
@@thehermit8618yeah the self awareness that the world is paper really bothered me in the recent trilogy of games. I'm fine with the game awareness (like when koops says to his dad "I thought your game was over...") mainly because its infrequent and doesnt build its entire personality around it.
The lore within this game is brilliant. Very well thought-out and elaborate.
I can’t believe I’m living in a world where TTYD is actually getting a remaster. I almost cried during the announcement 🥹
I’m living in a world where Nintendo actually made a new Paper Mario to compete against TTYD instead of, y’ know, making a remake for the millionth time
@@ptanker9236 they tried that a few times and failed, so I'll happily take this instead.
@@ClayDoh as a person who played TTYD a lot in the past, I digress, I always dreamed of a true sequel to TTYD (A TTYD 2) But instead, they go with their remake frenzy and give us a choppy TTYD remaster that goes down to 30 FPS, while the original was 60 FPS. Jeez.
You should see the newest video they put out! The new opening to the game is absolutely stunning!
@@caseyburr6451 I saw it earlier today!! It looks incredible! I'm so hyped for the release in May!!!
I had to watch the old intro to compare it and WOW...
It's like night and day
They don't make games like this anymore
Here after the Oragmi king trailer. Crazy to think we will never get anything close to this again
All because of miamoto
@@lirehsa tanabe
@@cryptidcloud No, it's because of Miyamoto. He ordered Intelligent Systems to not make any original Mario characters, effectively preventing them from having any kind of complex storytelling or world-building in the PM games.
Tanabe is just the guy who's tried to work with these rules, it's not his fault.
@@dreye3215 tanabe
Tbh fair both are at fault
Nintendo just released a new trailer for the switch remake, and its amazing! *The story is now fully animated*
It's so crazy that this game is 20 years old now. Hard to explain now, but I remember it feeling so new and next gen when it first came out. One little detail that made this game feel so "new" was the health and safety screen at the beginning of the game, and I'm glad they kept that in this video. Obviously nothing really interesting or note worthy about a health and safety warning, but earlier GameCube games didn't have that, so when you started seeing that, you knew you were getting a newer game. And then the Wii came out and had that at the beginning of the console boot, so it kind of cemented that as a separator of old and new GameCube games when looking back. Weird, I know, but it's one of those things that I just notice and almost subconsciously obsess over.
and its getting remade now
The ones who forgot this story may have been those of us whose childhood memories have passed us by. And now, the beginning of a great story is about to unfold again.
00:17 just these few notes crashed the internet! ❤❤❤ can’t wait for 2024
LETS GOOO MY CHILDHOOD GAME HAS COME BACK
I want a game where Mario travels to the past to the ancient city before Rogueport and before Shadow Queen’s reign.
It'd be interesting to see the things that happened back then, but I feel like that'd also detract a bit from this game.
Only having small clues here and there to piece together what happened back then is what makes it all so cool to begin with.
Cannot wait to see this remade
It just occurred to me that this story parallels the history of this game series. Long ago, this was a beloved and successful RPG series, but then the great cataclysm-Sticker Star-occurred, killing the series. It seemed as though Nintendo completely forgot that TTYD in particular even existed, and some weirdos out there actually think Sticker Star and Color Splash are good games. It was really looking like things would stay that way forever, but we fans didn’t give up. We poured out our love for this game across the internet, and rumors spread that Nintendo would in fact, make this remake a reality. Indeed… the backstory of TTYD truly does represent the history of this series. And the revival that we dreamed of for so long, comes out in 2024.
what is blud waffling about 💀
It's been 11 years since I played this.
I’m crying
WE ARE SO BACKKKKKKKKKK
i still want a extension of the merchant's theme that starts at 2:59
Lets hope the remake gives it to us
LETS GOO
Ahem! Today… I’m going to tell you the story of the Thousand-Year Door. An awfully long time ago… In a strange and far-off land, a big, bustling town thrived. It was a town where all the people loved very happy lives. And it was said that the town was very prosperous. But one day…tragedy befell this blessed place. A great cataclysm struck the town and its people. Darkness filled the skies, and the earth roared and shook. It was as if the very world had come to a violent end. And in but a single night… the town sank into the depths of earth. Many moons rose and set. Stories of the town passed into the pages of fairy tales… And when the town’s site no longer held relics of its past… People gathered at that spot and built a new town. But word soon spread among the people who moved in. That an ancient city lay deep underground… And that a magnificent treasure rested there. Indeed… This is the tale of the fabled treasure of Rogueport. Yes, this is where it begins, in the sea town of Rogueport. The tale of the quest for the legendary treasure. And the Thousand-Year Door…starts here.
"Once upon a time there was a lovely princess."
-Shrek.
IT'S HAPPENING
I can't believe that the title of Mario's Story(Paper Mario 64 original title in Japan) became nothing like this ever since Paper Mario: *STINKY* Star
havent even played the game yet and im getting goosebumps i am beyond pumped to give it a go myself
You won't regret it my friend

REMAKE IS COMING IN 2024 LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
I can definitely tell some people (including myself) forgot about the book in this intro
The perfect times when Paper Mario was good
Edit: Origami King is still awesome (WAAAY BETTER THAN COLOR SPLASH AND STICKER STAR)
Trusting Bedlam I mean Beldam.
I think the robed person is actually the rat guy that tells you rogueportes lore on the right side of town.
No, it's Beldam

@@lirehsa emulation is great!
squidn8r it just isn’t the same feeling
Honestly if theres anything that seriously disapoints me about the recent paper Mario games (besides the obvious) is that we no longer have the story book openings.
Also hands up who accidentally pressed "A" to advance the text?
But in dialogues you could press z to read the previous text (of course, if the character had not finished speaking)
THIS is how you do an intro to a game
Bruh why can’t the newer paper Mario games run at 60fps
The first two are perfection ❤️❤️

0:00 looks like an anti piracy screen or a console failure
I’m so obsessed with the Ancient city before Rogueport, who lived there?
I wish I could play this game but I don't have a wii or gamecube, so I might never be able to experience this game ;;
Then get an emulator, or go on amazon or eBay to buy a console
gamecubes are pretty cheap on ebay last I checked.
But you could always play for free on an emulator
@@phoivos The emulator on my laptop wouldn't work but it was an old computer, I just got a new one a week ago so maybe I can try again
I have great news for you if you own a switch, Nintendo finally remastered this amazing game!
@@captaintaz4673 I saw! I'm so excited!!

Someone should edit this with all star at the end. "SomeBODY once told me..."
Wait… the remaster was announced 10 months ago?! I thought it was three…
0:00 Wii startup vibes
TODAY IS A GREAT DAY
WOOOOOOOO
Can anyone translate what the book says? Somebody did this for the Wind Waker, I wonder if this could be done too, I mean there both for the GameCube.
Unfortunately it cannot be done. I just tried, the words do not translate to any kind of real words. For instance, the very first word is only capable of being translated to "flexibility". If you add in the second word, no phrase is possible. It also only uses about 10-12 characters, nowhere near what would be needed for a real code. Sorry :(
@@spartanspeedruns8386 Oh well, thanks for trying though. I just wondered what history could be learned about the old ruin town that sank beneath the earth? I bet Nintendo knows something?
@@rockerblast819 Probably Intelligent Systems knows since they developed the game.
I sure doing right 2:04
You are going right there
Opening is a ripoff of shrek
Damn, Shrek came out about 3 years before TTYD, so, there is a non-0% chance that TTYD took inspiration from Shrek.
It's a bit jarring to see gallows in a Mario game, I gotta say. Especially since many characters don't even have necks.
Guess what folks!! It's coming to Switch!!
