Find an environment where people will appreciate your strengths and cut you a little slack for your weaknesses. I like my job because my boss is really cool with my crap memory and strange approach to doing things because he knows how I excel in other areas that others don’t. Our desire to be constantly busy can really make us stand out in hardworking environments. Find a job where you’re flat out all day and you’l flourish. Boredom at work and downtime does not go down well for us.

I just started a new office job and it is the worst decision I've made in quite some time. I'm going to look for bartending work or something else really stressful with clear work objectives. I don't think I can manage this. I just don't understand how people can get work done like this, I do really simple stuff and it's so boring I can never get started. I can sit for 3 hours doing random stuff until I get any work done at all and I just can't defend my boss actually paying me for this..

Unfortunately most of them won't look for help. So what I want to say is that, maybe there's more adhders in high achievers. But because they won't look for help so we won't know.

I saw a psychologist for years and she kept telling me that my brain was like a race car, and I do not know how to drive it yet. She kept saying it would be like giving a race car to a 16yr old new driver, they wouldn’t know how to handle it. Except I was in my twenties and she didn’t know how to treat me or what advice to give me and when I brought up adhd she told me absolutely not, that I did not have adhd multiple times since she only knew what little boys who had adhd looked like. Since then I have had two doctors tell me I have adhd and I still struggle to believe it. But I almost burst into tears when he said that having adhd is like having a race car with bicycle brakes 😭 Thank you, thank you so much.

Actually the exercise thing actually worked for me. I noticed very carefully my behaviour when I don’t do any sort of exercise and when I do. Even a morning run for half an hour worked good for me. It reduced my mind chatter and also I’m more focused and motivated to do and complete my work.
Anyone here who’s having hard time focusing, I’ll suggest just go for a run alone in the morning in fresh air. Make a schedule for yourself and set goals. Just try your best to follow the schedule as much as possible and don’t be too hard on yourself. Try to understand yourself and take care of yourself.

My life's been real hard for me and I always did my best but still it was never enough. At school I studied hard, at work I stayed more hours. At home I tried to do chores and help around but I just couldn't and was perceived as lazy, forgetful, spacey and careless. My life felt like a complete underachievement.
On the other hand I always thought of myself different from the others. Always. I didn't knew exactly what it was but the way I perceived the world was just way different than anyone I knew.
    Now I know why.

I wouldn't call Ritalin and other stimulants call medication. They're powerful stimulants, but come with reasonable side effects. I just take it when I really need it. In my opinion, life is much more joyful without it. I'd never take it on vacation, for example. “Everyone's ADHD is different" - so true. Since I am diagnosed, since two years ago (I'm 31 now) I still have the symptoms of course, but I love life a lot-also with ADHD.

After an in depth conversation with her about the condition (I knew very little about it) it came to light, that I myself have the same symptoms and the same struggles as a child, up to where I am now.. My youngest daughter has always displayed signs too, so I think we both need to go have an assessment done.

For support and resources on mental health, the NAMI National Warmline Directory is a great resource, unlike a hotline for those in immediate crisis, warmlines provide early intervention with emotional support that can prevent a crisis - and a more costly 911 call or ER visit. The lines are typically free, confidential peer-support services staffed by volunteers or paid employees who have experienced mental health conditions themselves. And that makes me kinda panic because there is a guy who kinda bully's me like insults me with the use of it like he asks me that do you know the meaning of this word , and then I think in my mind that "yeah I know the meaning of it" but I couldn't describe it to him and then he insults me infront of everybody that I said that I know the meaning of this word ,but when I asked him the meaning of it he told me that he(Myself) can't say it to me(the bully says) then that guy just insults me that he does not even know anything but he always says he(myself) he know it . And everybody also agrees with it and tells that why would you say that you know that word without describing it to us . Overwhelm is such an issue. Housework is almost painful to get started. I get the vacuum cleaner out of the cupboard and 3 months later it's still in the living room waiting for me. I have to dust it before I use it. I'm very deadline motivated so if someone 'threatens' to visit I do it the morning before.

Thank you for sharing. For support and resources, the NAMI National Warmline Directory is a great resource, unlike a hotline for those in immediate crisis, warmlines provide early intervention with emotional support that can prevent a crisis - and a more costly 911 call or ER visit. The lines are typically free, confidential peer-support services staffed by volunteers or paid employees who have experienced mental health conditions themselves. For a list of where to find this service in your area please check out the link here -> www.nami.org/NAMI/media/NAMI-Media/BlogImageArchive/2020/NAMI-National-HelpLine-WarmLine-Directory-3-11-20.pdf

I'm so aware of my problems but don't know if it's ADHD or my personality. I was diagnosed about two years ago and not my doctor or someone from the psychiatric care have explained anything to me. My doctor who will take care of my eventual medication never asks me about my life or problems, instead she criticizes me for being late, forgets booked doctor visits and when I talk she interrupts me like she's trying. learn something. Sometimes I feel really bad and ADHD create panic anxiety.

I have ADHD iam in the uki am 52yrs it took them 47 yrs diagnose me , and that was threw mental health I have to disagree on some things that that doctor is saying., i’m 52 years old, everything that you said to do with work school and everything writing I’m dyslexic. I do suffer with anger outbursts regularly with my partner. I’ve had many partners through my lifetime. I also have money will do difficulties including with Lung, but there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes, but a lot of people don’t mobile are falling into new work we want me to conform to pharmaceutical tablets and other too many horror stories are use cannabis for chronic pain, but I also use it for my ADHD which calms me down but younger in the mood swings. Oh God, it’s finally time to go, put the doctors discharge me because I wouldn’t conform to the medication and 52 I’ve gone through life through the whole of the UK system and it’s completely failed me in every way shape way or form 20 minutes. I have a difficulty in trying to explain because I find it hard to explain.

"Unexplained underachievement", so this is the word. Since sixth grade my handwriting (I've got certificate for a good handwriting) went worse and i always find difficulty in writing fast. My IQ was 140, I was the brightest student to answer in the class and participate in the extra curricular activities and have won certificates but get only above average marks in the exams. Teachers named me a bright student but too lazy to write answers in the exams. My mom always scolded me that I'm so careless and adamantly being lazy ' coz I don't want to do. She even call me out names for not reducing weight despite all my tries, slow motion and crazy.

That's a decision you have to make yourself.
If there are side effects, you have to recognise that the real effects of not treating the condition carry consequences of their own.
Unexplained underachievement, being the main one.
      Hope that helps.

I have difficulty in speaking in difficulty in remembering as a bad word could be to do with all of us in the cold. I keep myself to myself, suicide is coming on my agenda, has been for a very long time but because I have my dog here bunny, I won’t be going anywhere till it is because he’s here with me. I’ve been diagnosed as adhd for about 22 years, I really struggle with the side effects of my meds and I’ve been trying to find alternatives for years, whenever I stop taking my meds I experience the underachievement and many other symptoms. Mostly due to my insane hyperactivity. I’m wondering if there is any non stimulant medicine that exists that can help me bc I’m sick of waking up and taking stimulants everyday… any suggestions??? I really could use the help. It took me a long time but I have a good job and a family but whenever I stop taking my meds I get into trouble and it’s like I don’t even realize I’m messing up. I’ve tried any medication you can think of that’s non stimulant and nothing works for me, strattera did nothing, concerta gives me worse side effects and I feel like all that works for me is vivance and instant release adderall

Now I have a prescription for Ritalin but I don’t even want to try. I’m afraid of the side effects

    Underachievement? On paper maybe.
Take someone fluent in independent thought, with minimal or no craving for societal approval, then throw in ADHD for good measure. If this person is an underachiever, it'll be by their own standards, which will often be eccentric. The person will not be fooled into treating point systems or any institutionalized metrics as evidence, or even as mere cues, for how they're doing in life.

Maybe ADHD is not so much a mental disability but more a case of the enlightened hunter brain be stigmatised. Normalise the fear based humans cowering at the back of the cave, and call those who leave the cave mental. A bit like Plato's Allegory of the cave. The reason for this thought process is my diagnosis with ADHD a year ago. I'm 53 years old and kind of get what is going on. I will add, medication has helped me by ways of grounding me and not letting the frustration bubble up in my shoulders and mouth :)
