  • Following on from last years post of 73970 filmed on the West Highland Line we now depart Fort William this year in lovely Spring sunshine on the 1B01 Caledonian Sleeper service to Edinburgh. This year we travel behind 73969. All the beautiful views filmed, give an alternative view from the left hand side, immediately behind this at times, lively GBRf engine.. When I filmed this we are in the remaining weeks of the drop down window making it possible. When the Mark 5's arrive this will no longer be possible so make sure you enjoy for years to come this soon to be nostalgic record out of the window from Fort William to Rannoch.
DON'T FORGET THERE ARE MANY OTHER BEHIND THE ENGINE RUNS ON MY CHANNEL... Please share...

how nice Martin....a lovely remote / scenic " one - ie " ONE Track Ride........absolutely love one track rides...through the middle of nowhere..!!!..they give such a remote isolation feel to them....they are much better than speeding down 4 track motorways as such.!!! ~...your vid's are great mate..specially these ones with all the subtitled details...etc...and both the soundtrack & video quality on these..is excellent mate...keep them coming...!!! :)

As good as it is to see it in service being from the South East I find it sad to think it's unlikely to operate on a con rail again.. 😟

Yes the sight of a 73 in the Scottish Highlands would have been unimaginable back then. Not only 600hp any more, they sound like the mtu engined HST power cars (same family).

clickety clack a sound rarely heard these days, not even the 156 can recreate the sound of a bogied coach.

Agree and soon you wont be able to hear that in the new Mk 5 coaches!
