  • On this week's download, Dale Earnhardt Jr discusses drivers getting booed after recent moments like Bubba Wallace getting booed at North Wilkesboro during driver intros and Denny Hamlin had the same thing happen at the NASCAR 75 event. Dale tells a funny story about 'booing' involving Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch at Darlington.

      Good call Big Hand. BTW that name, is it in reference to the Ancient Indian Big Hand, lithograph cliff face near New Ark Ohio ? Don't look for any photos , the railroad blew it up to run tracks along the River. All those mentioned drivers, have had growing up problems and tarnished NASCAR in one way or another. it's true. Was anti Jeff Gordon from being a loyal Dale Sr. fan. Just couldn't stand to see him doing well. But later on I began to respect and appreciate how much he helped our beloved sport. Same for JJ. Man, 5 championships and winning all the time was too much to take at the time. But after the fact and seeing him in Indy I gained so much perspective and respect and truly wished for him to do well in Indy cars. Seeing Harvick punch JJ in the chest after a race and how JJ handled himself I gained huge respect for the man he is. Huge respect for both Gordon and Johnson now. But in the moment, Dale Sr. is, was, and always will be the man and could not stand Gordon as competition. Growing older helps put things in perspective also. Bubba fighting Larson after that wreck is where a lot of the booing comes from. Let's just enjoy some great racing and the fact that LAR SON put an old school whooping on all them boys Sunday. Can't wait for Charlotte. Heck, I was even anti Dale Jr. for a while after he chose Hendrick(the enemy in my mind at the time lol) over staying with DEI or going to RCR. But as time goes by you appreciate how talented all these drivers are. Wish Carl Edwards would have stayed but still appreciate the great shows he put on. Plus, I heard at the time that Rick Hendrick and Dale Jr had a close relationship, especially after his dad passed. Looked at in that light, I think the move was logical. Besides, RCR was in a decline at the time(a decline that they have been slowly pulling out of, thankfully), and Hendrick offered a first class operation with first class equipment and people. These fans aren’t hating him for speaking up and being a hotshot, all the drivers are hotshots. It’s in their DNA. They have a special hate for him because he represents something they’ve been taught to hate. Someone who is different from them and is successful. The remarks he gets isn’t just boos, they are comments like “go back where you come from” or “you don’t belong in NASCAR”. They are bigots. Bubba, as do other drivers, earn the feedback they receive, 99% of the time.
    Dale, Mike, let me give you an example you'll understand;
    Jeff Gordon's comment in regards to getting boo'd: your passion makes the sport what it is (or something to that effect, at the award ceremony).
    Bubba Wallace's response: If they want to judge a book by its cover, I hope they do that everyone. That's OK, I finished (wherever he said he finished), I'm getting paid.
    Bubba is arrogant, classless, and shows no humility whatsoever.
    And don't mistake temper and emo tantrums for humility.
    He earns it.

That entire garage pull rope thing made him the avatar of everything that the vast majority of NASCAR fans hate about modern politics and culture. To this day, my family refuses to even watch because of how that went down. Bubba will *never* get away from that.
    Kyle was a heel but his recent struggles and changing of teams, along with getting older, has made him slowly win back favor. His negative stance with fans was only ever due to in-sport activity, which is why the boos eventually have died down.

    Joey Logano has been being booed for his whole career, and nobody cuts him a break or appreciates all the excellent work he does through the JL Foundation. Mark Martin's comment about "sliced bread" turned from a compliment to a haunting one. Taking nothing away from Bubba (because he deserves better treatment), Joey deserves more respect than he receives from the fans based on his driving record and from NASCAR because he should have been included in the 75 greatest drivers and wasn't. Kyle Busch gets a pass these days because everybody feels like he got his comeuppance when Gibbs told him he didn't need him and he became a bit more humble.
