I'll always credit Metallica for being one of the bands that got me into metal and guitar. I completely agree here, especially with the Kirk comments. I love the guy, and he's clearly a big part of their sound, but I can't listen to pentatonics and wah abuse for 77 minutes.
Yes bro, I totally agree. I'm just glad they're still out there having fun.
On a serious note: their three iconic first albums were due mainly to the writing of Dave Mustaine on the first album; and the music theory & arranging knowledge of Cliff Burton on Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets. James & Kirk's riff writing is limited and simplistic at best, as evidenced by everything they've released since 1986.
Omg, I didn't even think of that angle! Yes!
And justice for all is far from limited and simplistic in my opinion, even more when you realize that it was released in 1989
@@oskar7string that's because Cliff had a part in writing many of those songs before he passed. That's not James & Kirk. And Justice was released in 1988 btw.
@@louistorresbecause it’s a stupid fucking angle
I actually started my departure from metallica from load, I was 10 when the black album came out and it was instrumental to my picking up the guitar. I love your analysis
I love them for what they did in metal but I'm disappointed bc I feel they could do better.
We need a video about why Kirk's LTD is better than ESP model
I made such a video! :)
@@louistorres My bad, getting on it ASAP
I’m a die hard Metallica fan and after listening to the new record I was like meh….
Same. Love Metallica, there's decades of history with them but meh. They did whatever they did.
I love them since Puppets, but I enter the Pandora’s box of music streaming service and it opened up an over indulgence of Metal and it makes Metallica boring and lazy…
Kirk is SMART for sticking to what He knows, I did hear some of it and didn't like it bc I'm just not into Music like that, but my Daughter Loves it, that's why He is SMART to stick with what He knows!!!!!
You should go see them!!!!!
Louis you should do a part 2 and check out the ticket prices for the Power Trip Festival!!
HOLY SMOKE! I just looked and $700 for general admission!!!? That's stubhub buying all the tickets and increasing them many times over. That's crazy! Wow!
I think you make alot of thought out points on this episode. I totally agree with you. Metallica was one of the bands that got me into metal in the 80's as well. Some of the new stuff sounds like they attempted to write material they once would have but it lacks the vibe and energy they once had. You also might be on to something with that rushed to get an album released idea.
When you need money fast and you're in a band, you push out a new album and tour.
For me Metallica was Kill em all to And Justice for All. Everything after that is meh. Master of Puppets is a top 5 album of all time for me.
Yes! I'm 100% with you! Those albums made metal popular and created tons of different genres afterwards. After Justice, I got more into Death, Sepultura, Merauder, etc. Bands that I think left Metallica sounding like they were stuck.
Who is better in your opinion between Metallica and Megadeth?
Although I'm not fond of Dave's voice, musically, Megadeth is better for the music I personally prefer. :)
You are absolutely right about Metallica. we all picked up our guitars and wanted to be them in the late 80's early 90's they were great. the new album sounds a little rushed what happened to the metal sound they had in the first four albums ? that is Metallica. there are 3 bands that always stayed true to their music. SLAYER PANTERA AND JUDAS PRIEST.
Yes bro, you nailed it! They chased the almighty dollar which is great for them financially but we're forever stuck being hopeful.
Iron Maiden
Rush
Louis, they are stuck! like an old guy who refuses to move past racism because that's what he was taught, and he's stuck lol.
But hey, at least it doesn't sound like St. Hangry this time, lol😂😂😅
It's not all kirk either. They were done (for me, I'm 49....) after Justice, in my opinion.
I, of course, listened to the black album because how could you not back then? It was EVERYWHERE. It was crazy how big that album was for them.
Idk, to us kids that had grown up with RTL and MOP (tape cassettes), we felt that they sold out to the almighty greed machine, and, yeah, they did, lol😂
Yeah man, it's like the 60 year old who still has a mullet. Lol
@@louistorres
Right, or the boomer that refuses to even consider using a cell phone 🤣 🤣
Death Magnetic was the last Metallica record I finished, I think I listened to it maybe four or five times. I never finished Hardwired to self destruct. 72 Seasons I didn't even bother to listen to after hearing Lux Æterna once.
I think Slayer made the decision wich Metallica had to do a long time ago and retire.
I was a BIG fan, I even like the Load album, it's a good record but should never have been released as an Metallica record. I think a release as a side project would have been better.
I think St. Anger and especially the Some kind of Monster documentation killed the band for me.
10k let’s goooo!
🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hahahaha!!!! I'm trying! Being a bit scandalous gets things moving. Unfortunately, this episode has already cost me 5 subscribers! I guess a few guys took it personally. Haha!
@@louistorres 😂
@Louis Torres, wow😂😅
I didn't care for it, I just thought a lot of it was plodding. The first track was pretty good & Kirk's lead was too but then it went downhill from there. As far as Kirk in general, he has used all those modes on previous albums. He just seems fresh out of ideas, his leads on the last few albums hasn't been great.
I have no idea what's wrong with the lot of you guys but, a band that refuses to change dies very quickly. I like this I'll one quite a bit and I like the one before it as well.
We all like what we like. I like pizza with extra cheese and someone may like pizza with pineapple, which I thin is gross but that's a perfect example and it's okay. We can't all agree with everything. Someone may listen to every Metallica album and say it's all devil music to them, it's just an opinion bc again, we like what we like.
@@louistorresTotally agreed
i thought it sucks also hardwired is so much better they still cant beat megadeth
Agreed!
ITS METALLICA. I AINT GUNNA SAY IT AGAIN.
ILL ALLWAYS LUV EM😢. BUT THIS ISNT METALLICA
Yeah, I'm with you. I'll always love them for what they did to get me here but this newer Metallica from the last thirty years isn't really what I was expecting.
I think Metallica’s biggest travesty is how the biggest metal band on the planet keeps making records that sound like shit from a production standpoint. They’ve got access to all the best amps on the planet and their guitar tone is absolute crap lol
Tone, style, length and vibe are all off on this one. I get that they can't be too heavy or they'll lose fans but they can't be to "sweet" eitheror else they'll again, lose fans but man, they should be able to do better.
@@louistorres If they made an album that sounded just like their 80s stuff I don’t think anyone would be disappointed. It’s like AC/DC, they keep making the same album, but it’s ok because they’re giving us what we want lol. Obituary is kind of the same way, and that’s ok because they kick ass.
Hi! Nice to see you well
Shitallica
Lmfao!!!!
Metallihaha🤮🤮🤮
I have only seen Metallica one time bro 1991 black album tour Albuquerque I live in New Mexico not Mexico ok 😅😂😂😂 ,point being they got huge could never see them again I would have to travel to a Stadium hundreds of miles away..as u said they broke the mold of what was to come,,,peace bro..🎉👋🍺🍺
I used to go to Albuquerque three times a year, for many years when traveling to Taos, NM. I dated one of the Blake granddaughters who's grandfather was Ernie Blake, the founder of Taos Ski Valley. We would have dinner with Rhoda Blake almost every night. Her older sister lives next to Julia Roberts.
That's a awesome story Louis glad to hear it I love Taos iam about 40 miles away from Taos little ghost town 😳El Rito, feel I know u better now Armano, enjoy the weekend it still cold out here we went from 80° To 50 the next day this morning was 28°😂😱🍺🍺🤔😂
Just heard the new album too this morning, I noticed very long songs too man times are a changing being a kid of the 60's music has changed dramatically, I blame it on Covid isolation and the fat orange dud..
Hahahaha! Bro, I just laughed out loud! Lol
