In this episode we remove exisitng clay s-tiles and tear off old base paper. we find that the 12 inch oval pipe flashing was not properly installed. Only having 1 layer of base paper. Typically tile roofs should have 2 layers of base paper at all times. So this Caused the water to leak all around the vent pipe flashing. Which also caused the wood to rott all around the flashing as well. So true american Roofing removed the rotton wood and replaced it with new 1 inch CDX plywood. installed 2 new layers of TU 35 modified base paper and then re-installed same like tiles. hope you enjoyed this How to roofing video.

Hi Manny, the base paper is what makes your roof waterproof. we had to remove the dry rot plywood to have a solid surface.
we used the rubber peel-n-stick to wrap all the angles.
we also used 2 layers of the TU - 35 modified base paper base paper to make sure the area was water proof and sealed.

and the pipe flashing is supposed to be on top of the tiles thats why it leaked lol, awesome job

we did install a 4 x 6 tile pan along wall edge to the right under z bar.
sorry we did not show it.
yes you can do it either way with a lead or aluminum flashing as a double pipe flashing.
we could not locate a 12 inch oval . special order was 2 week wait. rain was schedule in forecast
so we decide to do it the other way without second flashing.

nice work thanks for explaining it so thoroughly what I don't understand is that it looks like you've created somewhat of a Dam for the water around the flashing where water would fill and consequently flow under the s tile and create the same problem that was there before
i would have installed this 12 inch flashing away from the wall.
this 12 inch oval flashing was a pain in the roof. we could not move flashing in any direction . but we did a great job to water proof this flashing

if you are relying on the felt to keep the water out what is the point of the tiles,
they are called pan tiles
Where's the flashing for the tile?The base flashing is correct for the felt.You need a lead or aluminum flashing for the tile.So water can flow around the pipe.Then you would not need all the layers of paper.No mud around the pipes.
