I like the M44i better. It's front end makes a bold statement that it's BMW and it stands alone and not relies on the same old image of its sister series to succeed.
Yeah, I thoroughly disagree with the radio buttons, not only they are very useful when in need of specific functions (without having to fuss around in the infotainment), they are also configurable to other functions. Really well thought by BMW.
I am continually surprised by reviewers/car commentators that don't understand what the 8 numbered buttons do. It's a notable functional advantage over the competition.

I prefer the M340i to be honest. While they are both insanely nice cars, the 3 just looks so much better in my opinion. With that being said, the new 5 is their best looking BMW on sale right now. Lastly, the M440i is starting to grow on me but the M4 and M3 front end really needs some work. I miss the days of BMW where their design was purposeful and funcional.
If you look up the reason for the grill, it is very purposeful and functional. It helps so much on cooling, The only reason people don’t like it is because the look itself

Yeah that's true. I meant it more visually. When we reviewed the X5M Competition we did mention that they are hot keys. And after driving some of the BMWs for a bit they do make a lot of sense. Most new cars have features that are hidden under layers of menus, these buttons really make life much easier.
Both the M340i and the M440i have the 48V "mild hybrid" system. I scratched my head the first time you said the 3-series didn't have it, and kept on listening and you said it again around 5:20 so I just had to call it out. Identical HP & torque boost, identical start-stop which is basically imperceptible with the 48V. Cheers!
The 8 radio buttons can be programmed to anything you like. For example if you press 1 you automatically navigate home and if you press 2 then it navigates to your work address. I think it also sets driving mode and so on
The buttons allows you to customise the quick access to the Idrive. It is an extremely useful feature. You can shortcut to alot of functions and dont have to go through the system trying to find icons.

Really good review, thanks, but those radio buttons are programmable shortcuts to anything in the i-drive, not just for the radio, I find them very useful, I have my home address location for the navigation and my vehicle status on them for example, one press, job done, no diving into menus while driving, please keep them BMW!
Yeah they're very useful! I just wished they didn't look like that. I think BMW could do better visually with those buttons! Definitely helps with shortcuts for options hidden in the i-drive sub menus.
4 series grill looks way better than the dated look off the 3 series it’s a change for the better but I would say that I’ve just bought a M440i it’s a fantastic car a real head turner
The radio buttons can be preset to infotainment menus. Just go on whatever screen you like, and hold a preset button to set that button to that screen.
Why would we need the "radio buttons". Not to dive deep into the menu every time, as you gotta find anything you want. And then remember it by pressing 1-9 button, and there you go, there is no need to go through the same process over and over again, the only thing you gotta do is to press that button) 😄 Very useful thing

Torn between these two... the m340i is certainly more practical, and is more of a sleeper which I like (and cheaper), but the m440i just looks insanely good from the back, its so unique and is such a head turner
Love the new grill enough to buy a 23 430i Gran Coupe MSport! I think it looks more modern and aggressive, and follows the current trend of huge front grills from many brands. It also doesn’t look like every other BMW built in the last 30 years! She worst thing you can do to the grill is put a license plate in the middle of it!
They redesigned the m440i to look more like the new m3 and m4 because thats the direction BMW is heading with their new cars. The m440i model also came out in 2021, when the new m models came out. The m340i came out in 2019 before the redesign of the m3 and m4. Thats the reason why the cars look different. When the m340i gets a mid model face lift, it’s probably going to look like m440i. I just got tired of you saying they look different because of airflow lol.
OK, that 340 is the 2021 M Performance Edition (Not M Sport) and has the M Performance Exhaust which sounds ok upon startup. Supposedly it's more muted than 2020 because the 2021 now has the 48v mild hybrid system. There is also no auto start/stop button as like the 2020 model. The 340 MPE also has the Track package which gives bigger brakes and extra cooling than the non 340 M Performance Edition. Otherwise pretty good review! New subscriber!

Spent way too much time talking about the front grill. Then, didn't invest enough time exploring the differences, advantages and disadvantages of each model.
to go from a 3 liter 6 to a 2 litre 4 is pure nonsense . i been buying bmw 3 series for many years . why ? because they had a silky smooth powerful bullet proof six . this 4 cyl. is LESS motor yet MORE money . its a turbo , however , a little 4 banger like this with a turbo in it hauling around a 3400 pound car , does not spell LONGEVITY . not like a in line six does . this 4 cyl . motor is STRESSED , to produce its power , especially its massive torque . id like to see what happens when it hits 250,000 miles . every thing else about the car is very very nice , indeed ( except front grille ) . to me , this motor does not justify its price . i saw one on the freeway in black , it looks much nicer in black because it reduces the overpowering hideous effect of the grill .
@@kevinh8737 got the motors wrong , my bad . i was talking about the 2 liter turbo vs . a 3 liter in line normally aspirated . which unfortunately is no longer available .
Have you ever driven a BMW with the new turbo 4? I had that engine in my 19 X4, and now in my 23 430i MSport, and the engine isn’t stressed at all, in fact it feels very sporty, very smooth, and definitely quick enough for typical street use. I agree the inline 6 is silky smooth and obviously more powerful, but was also $11k more than the very smooth, totally adequite, and super efficient inline 4!
@@jeffthornock8671 a turbo charged motor is not going to last as long as a non turbo motor . the turbo is a stress pill for the motor , more heat, more friction , more faster wear . this is why i didnt buy a new 430i coupe . the car looks and drives great , but for that much money , i want a 6 , in line , no turbo . i have owned bmws for twenty years , i love them . until they took away the manual trans for the usa . , and the in line 6 . i bought a new mx 5 soft top . its fun and cool but i cant buy a car with no manual , no in line six non turbo . that 2 liter 4 is just not worth the money . it is not a 200,000 mile motor with no problems at all
@@restalva I get your points, but I too have had many BMWs over the years. Many were the straight 6 engine which is smooth as silk. The only problem I’ve had with any of them, and they all had this problem, was they all seem to end up with oil filter housing, oil pan gasket, and valve cover gasket oil leaks. None of which are cheap to repair but if not repaired can cause other issues, especially the oil filter housing gasket. This 430i is my third 2 liter turbo BMW and neither of the previous 2 had a single issue over the years I owned them. I hope this new one follows suite. I’d have gone with the M440i but this is my wife’s daily driver and I just couldn’t justify the extra $10,000 for her to tool around town and to work and back.
This guy knows nothing about these cars and is talking nonsense. First of all, they are called M340i and M440i. The 440i M Performance was the previous generation. Second, BOTH cars have the 48V hybrid system. You said only the m440i does, twice. The "radio buttons" are shortcut buttons that can be configured to anything from navigation destinations, drive modes, ambient lighting presets, etc. Also, a highlight you didnt fully point out is the infotainment screen being BMW's first touch screen. It's a small detail but something previous BMW owners would appreciate. Your subjective take on the vehicles styling is fair, but your objective explanation of the features should have been researched prior to acknowledging them. The misinformation was easily avoidable.
Although most people dislike the new grill style. I absolutely love it!!
I so wish they would have made a 2 door version, omg!!
It grew on me kinda heavily and now I wouldn’t want a bmw without it
Mee too, that is why I am buying one this year, it looks like an angry .... beaver, and I had my share of pelts back in the days.
I loved the 4 front since it came out. Bigger is badder!

They both drive really well! Not a huge difference, can't say it's noticible unless you're not looking really hard. Overall great cars!

to go from a 3 liter 6 to a 2 litre 4 is pure nonsense . i been buying bmw 3 series for many years . why ? because they had a silky smooth powerful bullet proof six . this 4 cyl. is LESS motor yet MORE money . its a turbo , however , a little 4 banger like this with a turbo in it hauling around a 3400 pound car , does not spell LONGEVITY . not like a in line six does . this 4 cyl . motor is STRESSED , to produce its power , especially its massive torque . id like to see what happens when it hits 250,000 miles . every thing else about the car is very very nice , indeed ( except front grille ) . to me , this motor does not justify its price . i saw one on the freeway in black , it looks much nicer in black because it reduces the overpowering hideous effect of the grill .
What are you going on about? These both have the b58 3.0 6 inline
They ain't trying something new!!!
Look back in the day!! You ain't a real fan
