I am very sorry about what happened to you, when they spit in your face, that is not common in Colombia, I guarantee that it was not a Colombian, you must bear in mind that almost three million Venezuelans have arrived in Colombia, and very few of them unfortunately they have come to damage our city, our hospitality and our desire to overcome our own difficulties

8:30 I'm from Bogota and sadly it's a method thieves use to steal, after that (spit) someone approches you saying "I saw what that man did to you, I'm so sorry about it" and out of the blue you don't have your cellphone or credit card etc. The best thing to do is keep walking and don't talk to anyone...

the young man is somewhat naive:
i have some military training and work with the public most days... here is my advice for anyone traveling in a city, or region, where there may be "anti-foreign" sentiment directed towards you:
use a phone cam (covertly) to take a photo of any assailant (or potential assailant) who may commit an offense
report any kind of attack to the local police (the assailant may be known to them)
don't travel around alone... (make friends with locals and listen carefully to what they say)
carry anti-bacterial wash and wipes with you in your kit bag (we did just go thru a major pandemic)
i also recommend carrying a small "first aid" kit in your kit bag
you'll also find things go smoother if you have, at the very least, a rudimentary grasp of Spanish...
don't carry physical local currency around with you (if possible)
secure your bank cards, wallet and phone in an internal jacket pocket (that can be zipped shut)
finally, take time to review reliable news sources about the country you are in... from what I can tell, Columbia has an ongoing struggle with armed guerrilla fighters (main group is the FARC: Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). here is Columbia's president talking about this struggle in 2016 (he received nobel peace prize for
his continued commitment to support colombian victims of this struggle, that some sources indicate is more or less a "civil war")
President Juan Santos: Nobel Lecture 2016

Congrats Divert Living!!!! I really liked your video. Bogotá is interesting. I will help you not to miss anything important in one of the most surprising and interesting cities in South America.
Located at more than 2600 meters of altitude, the capital and largest city of Colombia is a mixture of modernity and tradition in which you will feel at home thanks to its incredible people who give off good vibes.
There are many things to do in Bogotá, such as visiting its incredible museums, such as the Gold Museum or the Botero Museum, trying its delicious cuisine, getting carried away by rhythm and good music, enjoying its street art.
It is advisable to use common sense in security matters and as the locals would say «do not give papaya», which consists in not facilitating the work of thieves showing objects of value or being careless.
The three traditional dishes that cannot be missed are:
Onces Santafereñas: a mid-afternoon snack composed of hot milk chocolate, cheese and some accompaniment such as almojábanas, arepas or yucas bread.
Ajiaco: the traditional Bogota soup that is prepared with chicken, different types of potatoes, cob and herbs. It is also accompanied by white rice and avocado.
Oblea: a traditional dessert consisting of two biscuit discs together and filled with arequipe, blackberry candy, cheese, milk cream or any other sweet dressing. It is very popular among tourists.

Tip if you are traveling to Bogota: Don't wear shorts, bermudas, hats, big backpacks or even worse sandals, that just screams look I'm a tourist which can bring some negative attention. We locals don't ever dress like that (only wear shorts if we are going to the gym or something), Bogota's really chilly, gloomy and rainy so we cover up a lot. Sometimes it does get SUNNY, but it's not summer weather type of hot. Wear something you would wear around the beginning of fall :D
Now if you are visiting the coast like Cartagena or warmer cities like Medellin, then of course do so. Remember not all of the cities in the equator are warm, this is a huge misconception. The weather is different in each region and can vary drastically even an hour drive away, it depends on the altitude the place you are visiting is at. So make sure you check those out first.

i swear, you two are so crazy you could enjoy yourselves on a desert island and find good street food. i'm amazed how well you two always seem to be able to fit in with the locals and enjoy the people. You do have better anger control than i do about that one idiot that spit on you. Bogota is so different from places you've been and i'm, amazed at how you find the best things in any new city. Best part is always watching Ta eat something new. you should be able to patent that look.

So for next time, spicy is picante (pee can the), so you could say: salsa picante por favor (hot sauce please).

@@DivertLiving There was a time when they offered the service to help people to write letters or important stuff to get some burocratic paperwork done like 50 years ago, but they kept the tradition when the computers and printers arrived. Currently the typewriter service is no longer demanded, however it is still their way to try to get some money along all these years.
