another tip when letting your bank/credit card companies know what countries you are going to-don't forget to include the ones where you have a layover, especially a long one. i always do this so if needed I use my card at the airport to buy food, etc.
Excellent tips. I'm a long time traveler. One of the best pieces of gear I have found is an inflatable (Therm a Rest) butt pad. I use it on flights over 2 hours. It makes a 9 hour or longer flight bearable. Weighs nothing, folds down small, self inflates.
I don't like to use the hard shell carry on but rather a canvas one as you can squeeze it ,while with the hard shell if the overhead compartment don't has enough room you don't get it in
Another advantage of packing cubes, is once you get to your accomodation, you can just take the stuff out and then your bag is free to use for other things and it's easy to put your clothes back in without packing the bag completely again. Particularly if you are doing minimalist travel or say extended weekend travel when you use your bag (backpack) for EDC as well.
Sometimes handheld GPS is good to have. Yep, I know there are GPS apps on phones, but if the power is running low it's often easier to just swap out some AA batteries in a handheld GPS than find a phone charging power source. It literally saved my life in the Gobi Desert once when the driver got us lost in the mountains at night with a snowstorm coming. I was able to get us back on the right track because I'd been tracking our path and managed to locate the turnoff we'd missed in the dark. Also, sunscreen can be hard to find in some countries (e.g. India) so I always carry some.
You two always have very practical ideas. Yes, packing cubes are great, especially if travelling from place to place. Socks and undies in one, tops in another, pants in another, etc. Take a squishable laundry bag for dirty clothes. I agree, prior research is essential. Thx for sharing.
@@DivertLiving yeah it was at the manila nino aquino airport. it was a difference of like a 50-100 pesos for each $100. I got a worse deal at metrobank or BPI in the canlubang, laguna area and at every place in boracay
If I am not sorting clean/dirty between different packing cubes, I flip my dirty clothes inside out to keep track of which is which. Works better than smelling :)
As a suggestion, use a check list of things you intend to bring along on your trip. I travel to China quite a bit and once I leave the States, if I’ve forgotten something, I’m sunk. To avoid forgetting to pack something I prepare a fairly extensive packing list that includes virtually everything I intend to take along. Another benefit of such a list is it makes packing quicker and easier because once an item is packed, you check it off and don’t have to worry about it anymore. What’s more, with a packing list, you don’t need to think endlessly, time and time again - did I pack everything? Did I forget anything? You two are fantastic and I truly enjoy your informative videos! Thank you!
Jen Mar, my wife forgets things also and I am trying to get her to use a list. On a trip to China with our 5 year old son, she forgot her wallet with all her credit cards and money! Luckily didn’t forget her passport and she was meeting me there in Beijing so it wasn’t too bad for her. A packing list can save you!
Any links to these products? -So we can see the dimensions of luggage -where you got the adapters -which currency exchange app was it that you used? (Travel version or regular?)...thx
And here we were thinking it would be about a luggage, suitcase, camera accessory... and we were totally wrong... and came out more informed than ever before! Great tip on the probiotics! As a medical provider, I can certainly tell you that as a traveler, probiotics should be used first-line before you even THINK about taking an antibiotic!
Fantastic information, well explained. I've been traveling for 5 years now,and yes I've learned new things from you both that I will now use. Many thanks, safe journey .
Your video references a water proof jacket. It occurs to me that I don't have a jacket like it yet and I probably should. Do you have a specific brand that works best for you or do you use a 'random' "waterproof" and hope for the best?
You mentioned a waterproof cover for a person, but you also need a waterproof cover for your backpack as well. If you carry expensive gear, the last thing you want is to get it wet.
Luggage scale! That's our essential so we can weigh our luggage and make sure it's not overweight before heading to the airport. Great tips! Especially #5. Learned that the hard way. 🌺 Heidi
I decided to leave the prescription at home. Too many people would need an explanation that I decided to not try. Did all the precautionary preliminaries too. Pain killers after surgery included codin ... Cute little dogs love to dig out the stuff....I'm pleased to have it sitting in the USA rather than with me in Asia
There's something about the love for each other undulating from your beings in this video that is so palpable in this video. Such a level of respect and adoration shown in every interaction. #RlationshipGoals
Love your videos guys! So Informative! How is Tah able to travel to so many destinations like the US and South America without Visa on arrival capability? From my research, I've read that it is very hard for unmarried, single Thai to travel to the US for vacation as they believe you will stay and not leave. Also, can you tell me what backpack you use to carry you electronic equipment?
Some countries vaccinations are required. Yellow fever vaccine is required for a bunch of countries in Africa. You might as well get that in a country where it is cheaper. I heard it can run $250 in the states. So carry your immunization card and get as many vaccines you might possibly need to travel. Travel from the U.S. it's a big deal with what liquids one can carry that's why I like having a suitcase I can put items with liquids. Also sometimes you chance it finding space above your head. On another topic I read on a travel blog where some people steal luggage placed in the overhead bin a distance away from the owner. So when you travel with expensive equipment like you all do it's a must to have your luggage right above your heads.
Great video as always. Question for you thou. What about a power converter or step down. Is there one u guys use or would recommend? Also the brand and where did u get ur packing cubes. Thanks and safe travels (:
What do you do with the wheeled luggage in places with no/bad sidewalks? Wheeled luggage would be impossible to use some places in Laos, or even Malaysia for that matter.
Thanks so much for another great video. I travel with carry-on luggage only 99% of the time. My trolley handle broke on my most recent trip. What luggage brand, if any, do you recommend? My broken bag is...was 2.3kg and I'm looking for lighter. Air Asia now has a TOTAL 7kg limit :(
When we retire we want to travel to SE Asia and South America for maybe a year before deciding where to settle down....would you recommend safety wings during this one year ?

Great list guys. One I would add, in each of your wallets on a card or some right down your emergency contact, blood type extra, in a few dominant languages English Chinese extra
I roll everything then squish it into ziplocks. The bags always come in handy. Another handy item is knee high pantyhose. Roll your clothes and stuff them in.
Hi, love the video... it’s interesting to see what has changed since we did our two years traveling Asia in 1999... before internet took off... and a lot of places didn’t even have electricity! In The Netherlands budget airlines only allow one piece of hand luggage. I noticed you also carry a rucksack with camera equipment and tripod. Have you ever had problems with taking two pieces onboard? ✈️😎

Another benefit of packing cubes: because they have clothes in them, they make an amazing pillow when leaning against a bus window for hours.
Sometimes handheld GPS is good to have. Yep, I know there are GPS apps on phones, but if the power is running low it's often easier to just swap out some AA batteries in a handheld GPS than find a phone charging power source. I wanted to also mention that the Philippines airport money exchanges actually were a better deal than the outside places even big banks
That's good to know Michael, is that in Manila airport or including other airport as well?
