Great video! Question… when singing do you want the pelvic floor to slowly return to its position or keep it in a descended position? Some teachers say to lift the pelvic floor while singing. Very confusing! Thnx!

Hi! Thanks for your question! It naturally will return to its position (rising) as you sing :) Pedagogically speaking, I personally wouldn’t recommend lifting the pelvic floor specifically. It’s naturally contracting as it’s rising, so no need to think of lifting it. Breath support is all about slowing down or coordinating the ascent of the respiratory diaphragm via different muscles in the core (including pelvic floor), so if anything, I would think that forcing the contraction faster by lifting would be counter-productive. It’s good to feel a lower connection in your support, but it’s not an upwards lift or squeeze like a kegel. Hope that answers your question ☺️

@@LiviaBrash hey! Thanks for your response! This definitely helps me, I have some experimenting to do, but I do feel I am getting closer to understanding. There are many schools of thought on breathing! It’s easy to get confused! I swear I’ve tried it all, but with each experiment I get a little closer. Thanks again!

@@JRCorominas absolutely, it’s all pieces of the puzzle! Thinking of it as an experiment is a great mindset to have :) if it’s any help, when it comes to foundational stuff like breathing and support, most teachers are explaining the same thing, just using different terminology. It’s finding language that “clicks” for you. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me an email. Happy singing! 🎵
