One of the top three most expensive renovations in your home is the kitchen. Stay away from trends, stick to classic lines and utilize color in your paint options and accessories. Make sure your lay out works (really important) and enjoy your space. A white kitchen (cabinets) is a classic that will stand the test of time whereas a black kitchen will be cool for a few years until it isn't. Also, a "boring" kitchen with neutral color and functional design will bring a higher return when you try selling your home.

No. It’s your house. Do what you like as you live in it. Too much emphasis is placed on the future owners. Of course, likewise, too little emphasis is placed on the possibility that your idiosyncratic design is not very desirable elsewhere. Make your home a beautiful happy place to be in regardless of the trends or classics.

I feel like white kitchens will stand the test of time, but I definitely like the idea of adding natural elements to enhance the all-white kitchen. We have wood floors that help break up the monotony of the white, and I'd like to add a natural wood top to our little bar that divides the kitchen and dining room. Other than that, keeping everything all white - cabinets, counters, and backsplash.

Since I never cared much about trends, I just designed the new kitchen for my own house to please myself. It has natural maple cabinets with shaker cabinet fronts , granite counters that are a blue wave ( a kind of pattern with the color of the maple and black and brown and white , but not too busy) with the cabinets all the way to the 9’ ceilings. Backsplash is 4” white glossy tile with a 2” charcoal accent tile 6” under the upper cabinets , since the kitchen is in the same room with the fireplace that is stacked charcoal stone.
    We like it.

I have always preferred a creamy white color rather than a stark white for cabinets. You can still use whatever color choices you like. It is warmer, more inviting. Isn’t the kitchen the real gathering room for most families? Lately, I have been looking at a light taupe for cabinets, which pairs beautifully with red. Red is a nice addition in fabrics, wallpaper, cushions, because it is the color that stimulates appetite. Kitchens are very personal. To me, the most important factor in kitchens is the quality of your cabinets. And love around your table.

I agree. Flat panels were very popular during the mid-century period, but fell out of favor for a few years for cabinets that had more personality. They are back again, and whether or not they stand the test of time remains to be seen. The difference is that now being tagged with "European" or "minimalist" monikers may make the difference as to whether or not they continue to be trendy.

I LOVE my white kitchen! We painted it only last year . It’s so bright. We have a busy kitchen floor because although our house (1961) has beautiful, original hardwood floors, they didn’t put them in the kitchen and dining. It’s a large, open area so I did something a bit more dramatic. Our white kitchen compliments it perfectly!

I said ‘if you clean your choice to my standard weekly, we get them”, I have flat paneled cabinet doors and drawer fronts! 🤣 My uppers are a creamy color and my lowers are a medium blue and replacing the countertops with the new marble laminate and putting it as a backslash (very limited budget right now), we also put a kitchen grade sheet of stainless steel as the backsplash behind the range (so easy to clean the grease and splashes). My kitchen was all-wood and designed in 2006. The wood is rustic knotty cherry with no stain, they’re beautiful but with age there’s a lot of yellow and orange tones and with the floor being the same wood, it was a lot of wood. I just had my upper cabinets painted SW Aged White last week and it’s absolutely gorgeous! Warm but not yellow and it does a perfect job of toning down all the wood. It’s classic and definitely not trendy, which as an interior designer I think is a good thing and I’m sure I’ll continue to love it for many years.

i've usually cooked in darker kitchens. What I like about the white kitchens is that the white reflects light. This makes it easier to see what you are doing all over the kitchen. Everything doesn't need to be white, but try to have at the very least a white (or bright) backsplash. You must consider cooking and preparing food on the counters over just the 'look.' Your body might be blocking much of the direct light. I've cooked in a lot of different kitchens. The dark ones are a nightmare.

You should include a discussion of cost when comparing cabinet fronts. I wanted full overlay flat panel cabinet doors and the cost was 20% more then Shaker style. We compromised on having a 1/2 inch of cabinet showing around the edge of the doors to save $3600. The cabinet dealer said the cost is related to the lower demand for flat panel doors. Ours are laminate, not slab. Hope I used the correct terms. 😂

In small kitchens, white walls and cabinets can feel more spacious. I think adding color with countertops and backsplashes can be where trends can be added. I think neutral floors are timeless and can accommodate different styles. I personally don’t like flat slab cabinet doors, but that is because contemporary is not my or my husband’s style. He is a woodworker so everything has to be built by him per his specs or he won’t be content. I want painted classic Shaker style cabinet doors, the cost is so much less because the wood doesn’t have to be perfect. He wants a darker color on the lower cabinets and a lighter color for the top cabinets, I think it can work. have watched arched raised panel orange oak doors and other colors of wood raised panel doors come and go and I don’t want them again. I might make the exception for a china cabinet with neutral stained wood and glass inserts on the top cabinet doors.

I find that my upper cabinets are the ones that get dirty, all the kitchen grease/smoke from cooking, I guess. And, that wood slat kitchen cupboard is gorgeous, however, would be a nightmare to keep clean in a kitchen environment. I would use it on a feature wall in the office, LR, and BDRM away from the kitchen.

I live in a tiny bright modern open plan apartment and I am looking to have a new kitchen installed and I intend to go with white gloss units and dark green tiles on a feature wall. I want something that looks clean, modern and is easy to maintain. I have stainless steel appliances which I cannot in all honesty change so I am going with an easy option. I want practical and easy to look after.

I have a very small kitchen, so white cabinets it is! That being said, my range is red (BlueStar - it's awesome!), and I have red accents throughout. Since I call this my body bag house (forever home), I can do pretty much what I want until I pass on and the kids decide what to do with it. That means I have subway tiles as my backsplash and a gray granite with "movement" as my countertop. It's attractive, and I think it's classic enough to stand the test of time. Despite the fact that it's tiny!

❌It all depends what your aim is for your kitchen. I designed my kitchen black and white with gold pulls, and glass knobs. I chose my white for the walls and the cabinets to be ULTRA PURE WHITE by BEHR, and for my black, I chose LIMOUSINE BLACK, also by BEHR. My kitchen is amazing, full of character, with a lot of fun textures, done glass doors, etc. Yes, my kitchen is vintage looking, classic, and elegant, and yet inviting - family friendly, and this look would never go out of style. I designed my entire house, and all of the cabinets, the lighting, flooring, doors, etc., to look timeless, with an old world look, and yet clean, and slightly minimal. In my city, which is a pretty young city, my house looks different from the cookie cutters, because I went with what I've been planning since I was 7 years old, and not what's trending. Do what feels good, you'll enjoy your home better!!!❌

Updating my kitchen with white shaker cabinets, white subway backsplash, and a light gray granite countertop. Stainless appliances except for my BlueStar range which is a rich red. The red is eye-catching and breaks up the monotony of the white. Plus, my KitchenAid mixer is the same color as my range, and with hanging utensils and cutting boards, the white is not boring. For me, white kitchens will always be classic and timeless. All it takes is a little bit of color thrown in. And that's color you can always change later.

I kindly disagree, I am the type that cleans my mess when it happens. And then as long as you use the right dusting equipment, it shouldn't be bad at all. I would just do a few cabinets each week in a rotation and then the task would be less daunting. But also, with all of that being said...I do no frying or anything with oil in my kitchen so they would not get grease build up to contend with.

in Nordic countries a few years back but I imagine with the scandis wooden kitchens of all types are always in.

And it calms me a bit - we renovated a kitchen and were a bit bold with colour, cream and taupe cupboardd with handles in copper colour. We wanted a backsplash with a soft green colour and chose pastel green glass, unfortunately the green colour got lighter and stronger with the white wall behind, a bit too much… beginner‘s mistake. I still like it but I was a bit afraid of the reaction of other people… if colour gets more fashionable, all the better…

LOVE White Kitchens!!! They are bright (cherry) fresh and CLEAN looking! What can be more beautiful and classic than that? Classic beauty is the opposite of trendy. Trendy makes me think of people who jump on the bandwagon - they apparently are unable to rest in their own style. They merely mimic others... Also white is so classic it can be done with a modern, retro or even antique style. Not so for other colors on the pallet.

As goes for my decor in all my rooms in my home, I try to follow outside nature. My lounge faces South so my walls are painted partly a pale green to cool things down a little. My kitchen faces North so is lemon to heat things up a bit. My bedrooms are painted mostly cool, restful colours to promote sleep etc, etc so think these factors definitely have to be taken into consideration. All the kitchens shown in my opinion to not reflect true family life. Little toddlers dashing about easily crash their wee heads on all those sharp edges of tables etc . Go with what makes you happy. White if you like living inside a white cloud all the time. Give me sunshine.
