This is a compilation of Minnie Riperton htting her Whistles and Super Head Voice Notes in live concerts
Aside from her various hits, Riperton is perhaps best remembered today for her ability to sing in the whistle register, in which she had rare facility. Riperton possessed a five-octave vocal range (the liner notes to her Petals legacy album ascribe five-and-a-half octaves to her). Riperton's ability to enunciate in the high registers set her apart from most other whistle-register singers. Riperton was also noted for her ability to sound almost mechanical or instrumental in the whistle register. She has also been credited for her ability to sustain notes in the sixth and seventh octave for long periods of time. Having an innate ability to imitate many instruments helped lead to Riperton's discovery while she was a secretary at Chess Records.
Other vocalists can hit the whistle register, but it is one thing to hit those notes and something else to maintain vocal quality and SING in that register. THAT is what makes Minnie Riperton special.

Facts. If your only hitting a whistle note, then you're just whistling in your throat which, although impressive, is a bit of a gimmick. If you can actually phrase, and scat in the whistle register, like Minnie, then your actually singing, and it has a purpose in the performance.

Plus she goes from chest voice to head voice to whistle tone without any gaps. I don't know any other whistle tone singer that can sing the same notes in head voice and whistle tone effectively making a zero gap going up the scales

No one has ever been more clearer in the Whistle register than Minnie. She did not scream, but was clear and precise. No one could hold that note as long as Minnie. She actually sang in the Whistle register. She could play with that register.

Georgia Brown has the record for the highest voice, but her wistle is squeezed, forced and sometimes out of tune, after a while you've got headache. Minnie has a very natural and ease whistle, but still I prefer when she didn't use it to much, especially interpolating it when It didn't really fit the music. Her tone, musicianship and passion didn't need that much of it.

Ain't No Way came out in 1968. Minnie Riperton was singing and hitting those whistle notes with Rotary Connection In 1966.
