My preferred version, feels deeper, more loving. The vocals invoke all that and more, let alone the musical arrangements having a beautiful pace to reinforce it all.
It’s a great guitar piece, and Ronson played it almost note for note a few years later on Aladdin Sane. Tells you a lot about Marc’s guitar play since Ronson could play with the best of them and could have played it differently.
Yep. Gloria Jones made up alot of things about her relationship with Marc and to this day continues to lie. She made up the lie about Bowie so people would feel sorry for her and Rolan and she pretends they had no money after Marc died which was a lie. Plays the poor me act despite being drunk and speeding in the car Marc died in then ran away back to America to avoid being charged. Even her brother lied for her. Marc never got any justice for what happened to him and sadly it's all been swept under the rug for 47 years.
mystery why this superb song never got anywhere at the time of release. Tons better than the later Aladdin Sane version. Methinks someone @record company never wanted it to succeed? I remember trying to buy it on release, not in stock at local chartshops, had to be "ordered special", i did "come back next week", next week "its still on order', next week "sorry it's been deleted". And that was it, disappeared until release on compilation many years later
As someone born in the 90s... It was the 3CD version of "The Best of David Bowie" (white cover) the first I got (I knew he had over 40 albums, so I wasn't sure what to buy) the funny thing is for me THIS is the best version of The prettiest star, there's some tenderness on it...
this was the first song i ever heard in my life, like a year ago i was going through a lot of shit and this was the only thing keeping me going. i really miss you bowie, thank you♥️

What a duo , Giant Stars , Bolan always had his a staggering guitar work as he did when Tina Turner talked about Marc playing on her self penned Nutbush city Limits
@@friendlier and yet he sounds a little rougher, more naive, here. There isn't the arch distance of persona here, David Bowie, yes, but not in star mode.

I do not care for the orchestration, to be honest - but that guitar! Ronno paid Marc the compliment of not altering a note, just the difference in tone owing to the semi cocked wah pedal and The Pig Marshall amp, when Bowie rerecorded it with The Spiders.
As much as it's easy to gush about David and Marc together and although this has its merits it doesn't hold a candle to the 1973 version with Ronson. Fact.
Fun fact: June child confronted David Bowie and told him that Marc Bolan was too good to be playing in his song. They then left the studio. Marc Bolan was the true genius behind everything. David Bowie envied Marc. Marc Bolan is the true original who started everything before everyone else. The Electric Warrior GUITAR GOD ON HIS OWN. All hail T.REX Forever💜
Yes! I'm tired of people giving Bowie all the credit when it was MARC who paved the way for him. He was the one who pioneered Glam Rock then Bowie just copied him. Bolan doesn't get as much credit as he deserves.
Yes, but he more or less duplicates Bolan's original version when playing it on Aladdin Sane - Bolan did this in one take before his wife whisked him away out of the studio with a bad grace...
My preferred version, feels deeper, more loving. The vocals invoke all that and more, let alone the musical arrangements having a beautiful pace to reinforce it all.
I agree
Certainly!
Certainly!
Thats true, only this version. I hope that they will not use this wunderfull song for some television propaganda or music in silly action films...
Bowie was a really cool artist...after starting listening to him...never could stop... again and again these Bowie peroids;)
David and Marc absolutely fucking killed it with this one
The Alladin Sane version with the delightful Mick Ronson was far better. 🤗🤗🤗
@@jas2819 While I love Mick Ronson, that's a lie
@@cheesyween nope, not a lie, just my opinion.
The fact that it doesn’t dovetail with yours doesn’t make it a lie. 😊🤗
@@neosoulrebel Both versions are good but this one has more emotion and also Marc's guitar playing.
Marc Bolan's guitar playing makes this song so much better, he plays it beautifully 💗

It’s a great guitar piece, and Ronson played it almost note for note a few years later on Aladdin Sane. Tells you a lot about Marc’s guitar play since Ronson could play with the best of them and could have played it differently.
Marc’s guitar really be like that 😳
I love how he paid for Bolan’s son education and also regularly connected with him as a father figure after Bolan died. He was his Godfather.
None of that is true. Even Marc's son himself admitted that. It was his mother Gloria who made all that up.
@@chantelleadlington Wow!

I'm with you! I bought the same CD at the time!
Beautiful Marc Bolan’s guitar playing ♥️
I had this version on a set called sound and vision and it is the best and most heart wrenching of DB songs to me
We are so lucky to still have this beautiful music to listen to. I could hear it every day and it would still move me. ❤️

Is this what David played down the phone to Angie when she was in Cyprus one Christmas? She decided to marry him.
Yeah well

It was about Marc bolan.
He played it down the phone to propose marriage to Angie. It was a bit cheeky if he wrote it about someone else.
