One Year of Valheim: Fireside Chat

- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2022
- For the whole month of February we’re celebrating Valheim’s first birthday! As part of this celebration we’d like to invite you back to another fireside chat, where Josefin, Richard and Robin sit down to discuss the development of the game so far, and where it’s going in the future.
Unfortunately we had some issues with Richard’s audio for a while starting around 16:40, but hopefully it should still be clear what he’s saying!

The cabin is a nice step up from the campfire in the black forest. Thank you to everyone at Iron Gate for making an awesome game.
Makes me think that it would be cool if every fireside chat slowly evolved the buildings they're talking at. First it was just a small campfire, now it's a mountains cabin, next one could be a mead hall, then a castle, and last one could be a whole city or much bigger castle.
Yes I love Valheim!! Honestly it has been my favorite game for a while, since it released and until now!
1 mil copies and 8 months no update still...if you want mistland wait for 2025 or later, devs are super greedy,3 people sold a record breaking game and cant update after they sold it..why? because they dont care about the player, they only care about the money
@@mridontcare9619 Dude, the game's been updated many times since september, like 1-2 every month. Last one was on early april, before that one we've had several updates that added bits of content and tweaks. Not every single one of them has to be a huge content update that adds 200 hours of content each...
All the "facts" I read in your comment are just wrong LOL
@@Dark-pr3jj sorry for making mistake i said 8 months but its actually 15 months,15 months no update,a real gamer like me who have more then 300 game in steam library dont really see 1 horn and 1 new fireplace and some bug fixes as an update, and if you want to defend lazy devs with the slowest update i have seen in my 30 years of live that is totally up to you,and here are some comments from the steam forum, about the fans posting about valheim, see for yourself
Gary-2 years old with no content this is a bias comment i can tell because mass of the community not happy with the team taking 8 months per update to add 2 building
thats a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke of a developer team they got all that funds and stopped pushing mass updates. you say take their time but sadly them adding 2 buildings in 6 months anyone can do in a week its just backwards they are not working for their community at all

here are some comments, and i get it you are branwashed by the devs into thinking they are working their best, but give me 1 months with 2 devs and i can recreate the game, you think it takes a long time to make a 2001 graphic games, but if you really know how to do it its not that hard.and if they really care about you or the fanbase mistland and ashland will be out by now
would be hilarious if in one of these chats they got invaded and had to go defend the house
TROLLL !!!!!
Brilliant comment! I hope this happens!

They probably disabled raids. But that would be funny.
Man I loved when Robin said "Its not about always producing something for the sake of producing". Thats why this game is good. Tripple A games today Produce for the sake of producing. Only produce something if you know it will fit and if it dosnt. Move onto the next idea.
Thats why indie games are on the rising these days. Most triple A games have become business products, but indie games still have that passion going for them.
Absolutely, that's why I love this game. It's methodically and passionately made. That's what makes it so good. Too many triple A publishers force developers into this repetitive pattern of copy and paste and implementing things because focus groups think it's neat and games lose their identity.
Valheim's what happens when developers actually get to make what they want. And god is it _fun._
@@tuananhho8801 this game is a joke!
this game is a joke. with the at least 100 million dollar they made. only content they brought you is a pile of gold! they hoarding the money like Dagobert Duck!
@Zeke Teenweed facts^^
Other devs: we would like to introduce you to this valiable member of our team
Valheim devs: who tf are you?
Hahaha, love this conversation. Cheers everyone!
Nice to see so much love in the comments for this awesome game and the devs! I love making content on this game and just enjoy playing this game, always excited for the next chapter in the Valheim development :)
No dad joke? 😇
You only see love cause all the "hate" and criticism is removed LUL. This game and its devs are despicable af, and they always try to win people over by virtue points
next chapter wont come before 2030 with
the devs doing nothing
Im hoping at some point, maybe in the frozen North, or mistlands or whatever, that we get to find giants from viking lore. I imagine a 20 foot tall frost giant come out of a blizzard in the North and think of how cool that would be.
I absolutely love your game to death. Its been amazing to play since I got it and I'm proud to have almost 200 hours on it. You all are doing amazing and I'm excited for everything you guys do with it next!
how many hours now?
@@acrab7722 with the new update I'm doing a new play through with some friends so it's close to over 300 now
@@wingedsapphire5061 Nice.
I've played it from day one and although I'm not playing a lot at the moment, this is still my favorite game! Congrats to the devs!
I'm saving up my energy for the cave update. After that I'll take a break until Mistlands where I intend to go crazy and start from scratch.
Which "Day one" the early access launch, or the two+ years of free open beta that came before that? (People don't seem to realize the games not all that new, its been around quite some time)
I love these chats so much. A window into the beautiful minds of some of my favorite game developers. They really put a lot of thought and consideration into each decision they make in the game and this will no doubt pay dividends as the game grows. Very high on Valheim's future, keep up the great work!
I love the motivation to the abomination, I remember the first time I ran into one, definitely a "wtf, what is, WHAT IS THAT" moment. I appreciate all the hard work going into this game. Honestly just wish I had time to actually play, even as it stands I know I haven't experienced everything that's in the game, but I'm definitely happy to listen to some of the behind the scenes while I'm working, myself.
Yep. I may have said a few impolite things there, all right. My character was just getting to grips with consistently slaying trolls without dying horribly, and YIKES. Those things are scary!
I took a couple of months break and came back a month ago, started a new char and a new world, when I was fighting Bonemass, kiting him I heard a weird sound and as I turned around I see this huuuge tree thing walking towards me and it truly scared the shit out of me. So you definitely succeeded in scaring me atleast, especially since I thought I was a pro and swamp was easy.
I love these fireside chats and I love Valheim! Keep up the great work - I'm excited to see what comes next. Also noticed a couple of newish looking items hanging around the cabin.
This game is excellent. Playing a big mod pack with friends right now. Having mods for a game like this expands the replayability so much.
What mods? if may ask.
It's amazing but far from excellent, the optimization is horrible.
@@andrewatarantino naw, higher settings take more resources, low poly or not
@@dasich2566 False, I tried even lowest settings and my pc still made loud noises, and no my pc is not cheap
haha mods are only needed when a game s..ks
I'm still loving my time in Valheim and am excited for more content. Thank you for such a great game!
its not a game its an ALPHA
The rug seems very interesting! Fenring rug? 🧐Also that armor on the stand, behind Richard, doesn't seem familiar to me.
Sneaky armor 2 confirmed?
@@LetoZeth possibly. it's definitely not in game yet, none of the in game armor matches it.
It looks like the root armor that was recently added. It's attainable by killing the new abomination mob in the swamps
It’s @DipstickD. Yeah, that armor on the armor stand is NOT currently in the game. It looks more elegant and streamlined.
I noticed some possibly new build pieces as well. Love how they sneak these in 😀
Love the fireside chats! Keep up the good work guys!
So refreshing to hear passionate devs talk honestly and openly about the ups and downs of their success and development, especially in this time of tired corporate games with sterile media releases. Keep up the good work! Your game is a masterpiece and take the time you need to keep delivering the quality content you have been
Changing your work paradigm is indeed very scary. Props to you guys for continuing the communication with the community about where you're at. Love the vids and am looking forward to future updates. That different work structure should bring updates faster and better quality, stick to it and remember to relax on occasion
I really like this kind of communication with the players :) this campfire chat is so relaxed and authentic. I love valheim ❤️
Just started playing and I’m obsessed! Please keep up the great work, I love the level of detail to the game and it’s beautiful, smooth, and your not that limited I’ve only just got the bronze and I can’t wait to see what else is to come and all future content!!!!!!
Love when you all chat and share, and the atmosphere is so nice and inviting. I'm rather stoked! - For the mountain update, for Mistlands, for whatever the team may have up your sneaky sleeves!
Tyfs! Always a pleasure. Skål!
Can’t wait to hear more from you guys, keep up the amazing work!
Really enjoyed the chat, hands down my favorite game!! Keep up the great work
You guys have made easily my favorite game since childhood. Ive logged a thousand hours since launch on steam, and i look forward to the next thousand. Keep up the good work!!
That was fun and interesting :) I have only ever done point-and-click games (and a bit of consoles way back), so a survival game with WASD is really hard for me but I absolutely love spending time in Valheim and getting better! So thank you, guys!
Loved this, thanks for the chill chat and fun background info! Funny a few months ago I was thinking "oh no I hope I don't have to start a new world for Hearth & Home" to "Oh man I can't wait to start a new world and a fresh character when Mistlands comes out!"
Please keep making these chats - I love the insight :)
Mad love and respect from West Coast USA. Made (and will make again) great memories playing V with some IRL friends.
CANNOT wait for Mistlands Update 🤞
Interesting... I love the game, and the unique traits and challenges of its zones. On that note the Swamp stands out by far, in my opinion, and I feel the Mountain had a lot of potential but ultimately feels brief and small. Would love to have a reason to spend more time there and encounter more daunting mountain areas; harder to climb and cross.
Yeah the swamp and the plains feel like the most fleshed out currently in terms of content and challenge with the addition of the abomination. The mountain is probably visually my favorite biome beside the plains so it'll be cool to have it brought up to par with others. I like the idea of some challenging creature in each biome that you can make armor sets and gear with, so with this Fenring armor we see here it'll be great to have that for the mountains alongside the new caves
So much potential, looking forward to jumping back in one day
Love the setting
thats two times in a row that the same day i decide to do a new save from 0 you release a fireside chat, i find that so funny
i like the pace this updates have, gives me time to start missing spending time in valheim
Thank You for the Fire Side chat and letting us know where Valheim is from its beginnings, its now and its future. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing the new Wolf Mountain update and the Mistlands later on.
Love the game and all of the content creators are making from it, thank you, keep it up!
One of my favorite games ever. Thanks for such an awesome experience! I hope it continues to thrive and grow with new content :)
Loving this game! You guys are doing an amazing job💖
this makes me so happy... honestly. I wanted to elaborate better my positivity, but i'll keep it for myself.
Keep up the good work Iron Gate! You deserve the praises
Thanks for the chat. I can't wait for the updates.
Thank you guys for making an amazing game! I look forward to everything coming in the future.
Lots of love and appreciation to you all Iron gate. If there is a way to show how much your hard work and love for the game has shown. Afters hours of playing, meeting devs though competitions as well, hearing their excitement about buildings the community build. I'm so glad to have joined this games community ☺️
I really did enjoy this and the perspective from the team. As well it gave a bit the history of how the game came to be from being a side project of the developer. The huge success was very much unexpected but they rolled with it under a lot of strain as a very small team. Everyone’s impatient on updates yes. But I do look forward to when they do arrive the updates.
Fantastic philosophies and execution as always guys, keep it up as you are!
This game is so beloved we thank you!
Love this game! I play single player on my laptop but I really hope this comes out on consoles so I can play with my friends.
Keep up the amazing work, looking forward to all that's still to come. 👍
That rug looks really nice and cosy. Lovin' it.
I like this fireside chats a lot!
I've been a dev myself for some years, these days I'm just a mercenary freelancer so I love these chats. Also being a player that love the game I can understand the fans but respect your vision and approach. This game is like their baby well cared for and pampered because it is a small and personal project of a few people, it was never designed to be massive and popular so the great acceptance and success it had must have been something very nice but at the same time a bit stressful since people has began to have high expectations and the developer finds himself standing in the middle of a new place he doesn't know or expected, that of being in the center of all eyes and fans. Many are grateful, others not so much, you will hear messages from disappointed people but knowing how to deal with these new things is something that will help workers grow as devs and as people as well.
Thank you for your work and I hope we continue to enjoy Valheim for much longer!
heck yea
congrats
My brother and I were discussing Valheim the other day and we both agreed that Valheim has brought us some of those super exciting adventuring moments that we really haven't experienced since EverQuest and early WoW. I enjoyed listening to the conversation. Thanks for all of your efforts in making this super awesome cool game and I wish you all the best.
That was a very nice insight into the daily struggles and successes you Valheim devs sit with. I am extremely excited for the updates and I know all my friends are too. I hope you streamline the project managing even more and just enjoy the success you guys have created for yourselves (with a little more speed if possible).
Now, give me these updates already!!! XD
Everyone did such an amazing job with this game! It's not often that I pick up a game, and instantly fall in love with it!
Thank you for all your hard work, and I can't wait to see what's in the future for Valheim! 😊
I love that the dev chats are actually fireside, it makes me happy.
I'm excited to see whatever comes in the future.
Så bra och mysigt! ♥
I love all of you dearly, thank you for creating this amazing experience for me to get lost in
It is truly appreciated
Super excited for these updates.
600 hours and counting... can't get enough...
thank you guys so much! best game i've played in years
Take your time, guys! Already loving your game, especially the freedom it gives you!
Also: Fejd would've been a cool name as well, love the band it would've shared its name with ;)
I love yous guys
You guys are making my new fav game. Take your time.
Omggg i love this
14:45 "You just wanna sit in a cave and code all day" absolutely agree with Richard
You are all very humble, but do take a moment to enjoy your success! Valheim is a wonderful game that has already made a mark in the history of gaming and the game didn't just sprouted magically! You MADE it. You deserve a pat on the back for every single 285 000+ positive reviews! Go on. I'll be waiting... Good, only 284 999 to go! ...
Something that you guy said made me worried though. Indie games are always successful because of passion and because people who makes them are enjoying it. You said multiple times : "it was good times". You said it yourself: "We don't have any cool ideas anymore". Yes, you are now 10 devs and you have some responsibilities towards those people, that's commendable, but what made Valheim such a success is not a tightly organized scheduled or efficient corporate meetings. You enjoyed the 1-hour meetings in the morning? Do them. If you stop having fun doing this, it will stop being an amazing game!
I'd much rather have a wonky update schedule than soul-less content!
Dont, worry. it was mostly joking. Covid has made it more difficult. But we are in no shortage of awesome ideas =D Infact, they are waaaay too many ideas. We will continue expanding valheim in the same fashion it was made. with the new people with us, it will only get better.
this game is a joke! and the devs are money hoarders like Dagobert Duck!
great game! keep on the good work fellas! cheers!
The rug really tied the room together.
I love everything about Iron Gate and Valheim
I'm glad to hear that you want to stay true to your vision for the game.. I think that's what already makes the game so special.
Wow, wasn't really excited for mistlands but very hyped now
I am equal parts HYPED and SCARED. Good luck devs! Thanks for your hard work and awesome game. o7
awesome video! I love these guys & gals so much! Such a cool game & cannot wait to see the direction Mistlands takes Valheim
I see anew armor i am guessing it gives daggers a buff look like an assassin suit!!
Love this game! I'm so happy you are taking the time to do it how YOU want especially with so many people saying what THEY want.
I love this game. I love getting absorbed into the world and lose track of time.
This game is GREAT! excited to see the coming updates and can wait patiently.
Dream job right here, the things I’d learn here and the fun in the style looks great
I am so grateful that you have endured all of this explosive transition, because you are steadfast and grounded. So many games are lost to flash and gimick, convoluted with complex dynamic nonsense. Thanks, and I look forward to your continued works. In short, glad ya'll were born. Ha! Stay humble, you're great.
5:28 Well met Hugin... Well met.
I have loved this game since the day I got it. I originally was EXTREMELY resistant due to graphics, but now nearing 1000 hours it has 100% won me over! I love the focus on building systems / "stuff" the player will just see. I can't express how impressed (as a very on-the-side dev, I do create some app's for network testing for my job as another side thing for my job, but game dev is my low-key side passion) I am with how much you have done with how small of a team you have.
Keep it coming, keep it polished, and keep going at your pace. I will continue to be here and support, and if you decide to delve back in to make a massive update you feel would be something to charge for, I'll be here to buy it!
ty for the great game
Thank you Iron gate for the amazing game and taking your time! Too many games out there tries to rush out update after update and just end up messing up the game.
party time soon! i expect an invite!!
i like this chat...you could add an enemy raid..and then defeat the raid and continue fireside chat xD
Nah thx
@@Boris82 He clearly wasnt asking you...Boris...
@@barrybeunhaas3336 Nah thx
Welp, I guess another thousands of hours of game time then 😁 This game still has a lot to offer and I am very exited on what you guys have installed for us. Thanks Devs! 😊
Love the fireside chat😄
Very nice :) Great game. Congrats to a year of success!
That new armour in the corner looks like the Nightingale Armour from Skyrim. Daym ♥️🔥
Awesome game and cool devs doing their thing. Keep up the great work and thanks. 🍻
I do hope you guys do team meetings in-game, that'd be freaking cool 😆
Dark assassin armour!!!
Also, is that a linen rug you're sitting on?
I really hope they change their stance on introducing skill/talent trees to the game in the future, when they have more time. But, in the interest of simplifying the game, I hope they consolidate the map a bit in the future.
Because, once you've fully explored a Meadows, you've seen every other Meadows; once you've fully explored a Black Forest, you've seen every other Black Forest; so on and so on. So, (I think) it'd be nice if there were fewer, but larger, islands to explore.
Regardless, I absolutely love this game and wholeheartedly look forward to its future!
Yay :D
loving new caves in mountains, cant wait for mistlands.. amazing work... Valheim is in my top 20 games of all time(20+years of gaming exp)
You all made an amazing game! Thanks
TY guys for making a game that is both exciting, scary and cute. Every time you enter a new bio dome, it will be overwhelming. Ty for also making it very warm and cooperative. My friends and me have now builds that are both functional and feel like homes. I like the fact that it is not just grinding, it feels like an awesome adventure! Visuals are spectacular where needed, low rez where not needed, well done job on that balance! Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated. I play a lot of games and am much into virtual worlds. I can say, Valheim is special to me!
Please do more of these! Even if they are shorter
This was super fun to hear :)
@27:55 About the Mountains: I'm 100% with you on them being super fun to survive in. Trying to build a safe place inside a difficult hostile environment is my #1 favourite thing in this game.
I know right? I like the difficulty and the sense of overcoming "nature"
These developers deserve way more credit
The belt Robin is wearing doesn't look too familiar, Meginjords buckle looks more gold rather than silvery, perhaps there could be a new belt on the horizon. 😯
Sadly it's not ;)
it's what the mountain armor looks like without the meginjord =)
Trying to keep your vision tight and not add something that doesn't "fit" with Valheim is absolutely the right direction. Part of what makes your game so good is your emphasis on creating not just a game, but a believable world. I could sit in this game for hours and just take in the music and the atmosphere, which I can honestly say isn't something I even consider doing in most games. It's beautiful in a charmingly retro way, which I hope you NEVER change, and it all ties together _so well._
And yeah, the element I love most about these areas is that they present new problems you have to overcome. How you'll set up a base to counter the elements and the enemies you'll come across. In the mountains I pretty much build wherever, but in the swamps I feel it's *essential* to build up in the trees. That makes the enemies far less dangerous because the only enemy that comes up there is the wraith and they're mostly just annoying if you have a solid roof over your head, because they buzz around and make scary noises.
It's fun to think about what the best way to build your next home is, not to mention taking to the task of actually building it (it's a really interesting challenge to build up in those giant trees, let me tell you) which can lead to more than a few mishaps. I love it, though.
Damn, I love that cabin build.
