This is the story of how it all started and where it’s going from here. This is exactly what you want to see when it comes to the people developing a game that you love. Passionate and dedicated team, lead by a reclusive and mysterious programmer.
ah yes a passionate and dedicated team that work 2 hours a week and blow all their money on mansions and cars. Dedicated developers that literally, and I do mean LITERALLY abandoned their game. You are delusional if you think this game is anything less than a total failure and quick cash grab scam. Game went from 15,000,000 players to 200, that is quite literally the OPPOSITE of success.
@@TheNade Where do you get the 200 from?
@@TheNade Funny how you managed to say so many words without a single one remotly accurate. :D
@@TheNade smart
@@TheNade There is a bunch of people that play it at times, just as most these kind of games.
I am 30 years old. I have been playing video games since I could hold a controller. When I was young, video games filled me with wonder and a sense of discovery….a feeling I haven’t felt in video games and many years…
Thank you iron gate, Valheim made me experience that feeling again.
agree
Same here.. @32 year old
26
Almost 34 and Valheim
Is only 1 of 2 games that give me that feeling anymore.
Relatable. I am 31 and the first time we sailed away on a boat I had a sense of wonder I hadn't had in years of gaming
I cannot express how great this game is. This game has a foundation to be one of the best game ever created. Ever. Please do not sell your studios. You have an eye for a marvelous game and the community supports and agrees with your vision. Valhalla, we are coming.
It already is one of the best games ever created. I have played over 1000 computer games and I can confidently say that Valheim is all the way up.
I thought I couldn't love the game more than i do now. But after meting the crew I love it way more now.
Lovely interview :D Valheim is one of the few games that has managed to pull my old gaming group together again since we all got kids and lost most our gametime
What a lovely people. I wouldn't want my fav devs being any other way.
Valheim is easily my favourite game of the year. The second I set foot into Valheim I had the feeling it is something special. It felt, looked and sounded really nice, and I had the time of my life hunting deer in the meadows. I still haven't beaten the third boss because I have little time but this way I always have something to come back to. Thank you, Iron Gate!
This is my favorite game! I play with my husband and 73 year old mother-in-law and have so many wonderful memories of our adventures in-game. Thank you to all the people who work to make Valheim so creative and engaging! ❤️
Taking armor off before bed. I thought I was the only one who did this!
shame this wasnt released a little earlier in year would have helped some elements of teh community to understand the dev team and decisions more but nice stuff still!
i agree
Thanks for making content jade! Really sick of other youtubers souring my experience with hate about the development time
Hey Jade :)
@@PotatoflakeJake Then block their videos, and move on. It's not about you.
I cannot stress how amazing this game is! I only just discovered Valheim a week ago through a random RUclips video, it was short and showed a guy fishing, farming, and building a base. I immediately decided I wanted to try it, and within the first hour I was completely hooked. There was so much to do. Such a sense of adventure and immersion. Also the challenge of the unknown, and the fact you actually had to be resourceful to survive. I loved the fact that you could do so much with your base, plant crops, build a boat and sail the ocean to explore the map; which came with it's own set of challenges. I will play this game for a long, long time to come. Thank you guys!
i have yet to beat the boss in the swamps alone but i still come back to this game. you could spend 10 hours in valheim and not even feel like its been 10 hours.
OK....here I go.
High from Australia.
I want to start out by congratulating the team on the making of Valheim and its well deserved success. We are doing it tough in Australia at the moment due to Covid related lockdowns and movement restrictions. This game has been a shining light in the Covid inflicted dark.
I have been playing video games since they were invented (yes I am that old.....lol, 56 in October).
I just want to say, Valheim is probably the closest game to perfection (for me) that I could imagine. If I had to sit down and design a game that would tick all of the boxes for me, it would most certainly turn out to be very much like Valheim. You guys got so much right in this game. The feel of the combat is perfect. Blocking is actually skill based and makes a big difference in early success. I have lost count of RUclipsrs I watch playing the game who go out flailing with their weapons and wonder why they are failing. I like watching the people that are impatient to see new areas, and get to the end of the game, get crushed by the games progression and actually they actually laugh about how stupid they were. The combat is balnced so well that you actually feel like a warrior when surrounded by a pack of Black Forest creatures and manage your defence and attack to come out on top.
Everything about this game makes me want to be in the world as much as I can be. Sure, I have killed all of the bosses quite a while ago. The planning and co-ordination with my best friend (who I put onto the game) to make sure we were prepared were both challenging and epic. Our battle with Moder was absolutely brilliant. The elation I felt at the dragons defeat was delirious.
On top of all of the excellent physics and structured advancement lies the true grip that the game has on me. The fact that you can build your own house/base, even village that you can call home, makes this game the only one I have ever played that makes me feel like I am returning to a second home when I load into my world.
From the bottom of my heart.......thank you for this astounding game. I look forward to anything that you add to it with bated breath.
Great to hear! I made that video and I am 57, so you are the young guy here :)
@@EmbracerGroup I'm 54 and loving the game too! By the way, great interview with the team.
64 here and a huge fan of Valheim
Amon Amarth shirt...thats the sign for a good publisher ^^
I really love that this game doesn't have microtransactions, or an endless boring grind to progress, and is still a huge success. This game really brings me back to those good old games that kept you playing for hours, leaving tons of memories for you and your friends.
This game is amazing. What they set out to do and accomplished is staggering.
One of the best games i have ever played. this is interesting and I love every single one of these people without ever meeting them. I would literally hug them all for making such a brilliant game. Love it and them
I think it's cool the devs Henrik's cloak on his character matched his curtains IRL. Really glad to hear he isn't letting the money get to him and I have great hopes for the future.
beautiful ppl working on a beautiful game
It's my first time seeing the devs of my current favourite game. I feel blessed to see and listen to these people talk even.
Valheim is a journey, and it's just starting, I couldn't agree more on that idea.
Thank you IronGate! ❤
I've been a gamer for over 30 years and I can honestly say: this is a great game
I've been gaming since the late 1970's, and I can honestly say that it's a very good 'unfinished and unpolished' game.
It’s an incredible game. Highly recommend, always something to do and the world is very charming
They had not been two minutes from shore,
when down on them a sea serpent bore.
The Vikings called all hands and swore,
They'd take that snake in tow.
Huh!
Soon may the Iron Gate come,
to bring us Hearth And Home and rum.
One day, when the mining is done,
we'll take our ore and go.
No line was cut, no serpent was freed,
and the Vikings' mind was not on greed.
But they belonged to the Iron Gate creed,
They took that ship in tow.
Huh!
Soon may the Iron Gate come,
to bring us Hearth And Home and rum.
One day, when the fermenter is done,
we'll take our mead and go.
As far as I've heard, the fight's still on,
the line's not cut, and the serpent's not gone.
The Iron Gate makes it's regular call,
to encourage the Viking crew and all.
Soon may the Iron Gate come,
to bring us Hearth And Home and rum.
One day, when the update is done,
we'll take our gear and go!
Huh!
Id love to hear that as a song
This is really great, thank you!
This is amazing! This needs to be seen, post it everywhere.
You guys are great! I saw the trailer for the game and had a feeling in my gut that said this was going to be an amazing game! Have over 200 hours of gametime and am looking forward to many more!
Tack för allt ni gjort och kommer göra!
Fantastic game and I cant wait for more. Also, I think I may have fallen in love with their community manager...
Love how he hasnt grasped the poppularity of the game nor the wealth he has gained by it, all he is focused on or care about is his passion project and making sure it give justice to the fans that play it.
Ive spent many hours in the game, its really greate. Its still clear that its unfinnished but the diversity of what you can do in it makes it never boring. It keeps itself grounded, but also gives the player a lot of freedom other big game company simple doesnt give
Oh yeah, I remember the first weeks of helping with spinning up dedicated server after server fighting the evil world eater bug 🤪 Heck, the server listing feature couldn't keep up with the amount of servers and people had to add their servers as Favorites to directly connect easily. That was an absolutely crazy time and I really needed a long break after that. Amazing that the team kept going until VC season and I'm happy to see this well deserved success 🙏
Edited too be clear: I'm not affiliated with Iron Gate. Just hung on the Discord for years :)
Message from me and all the other people who play it and love it. Keep doing what you are doing... we will wait.
One of my most-played games now with over 1k hours playing it!
Woah already??
@@ThBlueSalamander Haha and I'm not even someone with the most hours on the server I play on.
"i hit a tree. tree hit me back. 10/10" made me start tearing up
I prefer developers like Valheim's and Satisfactory's who decided to use Early Access instead of Hello Games which took my CA$70, then decided to change the whole game a year later without warning its user-base at all. So many games should be launched in Early Access like the one backed by the Embracer Group. Congrats to you.
You are building a legacy and it has a better probability to be intergenerational because, unlike other publishers, you respect our time and our money by being transparent and saying that your games are in Early Access.
"Hit tree with axe; Tree hit me back. 10/10" LOL
I've played several other survival games over the years and Valheim is the 1st that has let me pick my own pace.
Right now I've got 1070 game days and I haven't killed The Elder yet. Yep, I'm still Bronze Age and really haven't done much sailing except to get the feel of it. I do have about 2 dozen country homes and 6-7 herds of **boars spreading out from the world center. I got lucky with my seed as I've come across Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp and Mountain without sailing. Since I'm going as spoiler free as possible this is one of the few Valheim youtubes I've watched.
The dev team has my full support.
Wow, you've taken even longer than me. I haven't killed the Elder either, and I'm on 300+ days (not year yet though). I have done some sailing - I had to, because Eikthyr was on another island.
@@pyridonfaltis9761 I'm still Bronze Age and pushing 2300 Game days. I was able to walk/swim to The Trader and just recently did a short sail to one of the The Elder's altars. That location was barely above the water table so my plan to dig underneath and build an impregnable base will have to wait for one of the other two spots on the map. They aren't very close and more sailing is needed. Since I'm wanting to mine a Leviathan I guess I'll put on my sailor gear and hit the high seas.
@@farmerjohn8770 otherwise I'd be perfectly happy staying in Bronze Age, but I want to get a stonecutter so that I can fix and build stone structures.
I have a nice stone tower in a Black Forest, with a portal even, but I'm afraid some stupid troll will smash it. Yesterday I had THREE trolls within fifteen minutes timespan near the tower. I need to get that stonecutter to make it a bit less than crumbling.
@@pyridonfaltis9761 I dig moats and raise terrain walls to fend off trolls, etc. The club swinging troll has a reach of about 8 meters and the damage will penetrate the terrain walls as if they weren't there. My structures are spaced away from my perimeter wall/most appropriately. Good luck.
The devs are obviously playing the long game. I really appreciate this systematic and meaningful approach. I've enjoyed more than 800 hours of content in this game already and I can't wait for further updates. Thanks for the amazing content and for being so unsusceptible to entitled babies whining on every social media possible. Thanks for the video too!
Really lovely insight. Have enjoyed since the first week of release and find myself returning over and over. Looking forward to Hearth and Home!
I'm so grateful for this game. It introduced me to my first gaming friends who I still play with. I was 32. So it was a big deal for me playing games alone for the longest time. Thanks for that.
Valheim went straight to the top of my most played games on steam, very quickly, this team is so amazing and i want to thank them for creating such an amazing, fun, and addicting game!!!
They’ve inspired me to start my journey of game development.
Ive just started, don't get to play with others but the game is still great even single player, which is a HUGE bonus with this type of game and a massive reason this game will stay on my list
You guys have nailed this game. Best game I've played for decades!
I love Valheim, there is so much you can do and create, its amazing. Beautiful sceneries everywhere you go.
Valheim just fits me perfectly. First got it when Bellular talked about it. And never regretted buying it. Great game!
Wonderful job! I am a developer myself and I understand how much work was invested in this! The main thing is not to stop and bring this project to the end. Otherwise, an unpleasant aftertaste will remain for life.
It's crazy how smaller teams make better games, great game, love playing with the ladz 10/10 would recommend to a friend
It's because they aren't pressured by shareholders to make games, and by bosses who has no idea what they are doing, except to make money. Great games are made by gamers, it's that easy. :)
Really excited to see how you move forward with the game. Best early access game I’ve ever played. Getting close to 500 hours played and with Hearth and Home out now, me and my friends have started a new adventure that will take me over 1000. Loving all the new stuff. Thanks for the awesome experience.
Valheim truly is a unique experience, i love it and i will wait patiently for updates
I am very satisfied with this game and the vision the developers have
Hes so finland, reminds me to Kimi Raikkonen. Great interview!
Iron Gate be like:
Regular Swedish Dude
Pretty Swedish Girl
Keyboardist from My Chemical Romance
For real though can't wait for Hearth & Home! Thanks for a great game guys :)
I really really really want to see this game grow into a massive melting pot of experimentation and exploration. Keep it up ya'll, there's so much more you can do. I'm having a great time. Fare the well. 🙌
greetings from germany. nice to see that our old gods and religion/mythologie is being more represented in the popculture nowadays. hail Wotan!
A very nice team, made a very good game. I could play it forever.
Please add a pause function to the single player !
Good vid and nice to see who actu&lly is behind Valheim. I really like to see particularly this type of people get recognition for what they do. Highly creative people making the bridge towards a big crowd. Too often these people are not picked up because they actually are not really busy with being famous, but rather create, create, create. I see that happen in the music industry too. I like Valheim because you spend time with people you would otherwise not meet that counts for other games as well but somehow Valheim has a higher social MP value somehow? It invites to be gentle, slow paced and just.... relaxing. The music helps too there.
Definitely my new favourite game developers.
9 Biomes in the Future! Great!! I'm gonna play more in this game.. Salute to you guys! Your game rocks!
strangely my village in "Conan Exiles" is called "Valheim" way before this was released and I heard about it - I guess I mixed unconsciously the names Valhalla with Muspelheim
wow....blows my mind on how a game is released. i never knew thats what it takes. thats awesome
i think also the timing was perfect. covid helped with sales since people was looking for a game to chill, SPEND TIME WITH FRIENDS. amazing timing. probably one of the best timing in gaming history
Lisa if you read this. plz we need more different map markers. thank you kind.
This one of my favorite games of all time.
A very successful game, I really hope they got their money's worth.
Love iron gate studios! I recently made a video of the dangers of trees in valheim haha...they're the alpha predator in valheim!
Valheim is arguably one of the best games I have played. My friends and I play it all the time.
My Favorite game of this year...
Hard, surprising, satisfying and rewarding.
I love this game and it's great to know the people that made it love it so much too XD
you did an awesome game, thank you very much!💜
What a surprise how good this game was for me!
Valheim became my favorite game in no time.
amazing game.. i spend more time in valheim than i do real life ... lol..mm... just beautiful. and thankyou. :)
So humble.
5:55 OMG just looking his position, my back died!
there oughta be a sixth clone of lisa that i can devote my attention to... *ahem* i hope you all stay safe and sound and will be able to celebrate properly soon!
iVE GIFTED 7 COPIES OF THIS GAME SO FAR, AND i CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE
i love those guys. Hope to see a lot moe rich ppl like them. Good job guys love the game. Keep up with the good work
is it ok for me to translate this interview into Chinese for more people to appreciate this group of amazing people? I will give credit to this channel of course
no
If you want you can and put the transcript as a comment.
@@maggiem6325 are you part of the interview team?
@@wildwitchwest ok, got it.
Keep going guys! . I'll be doing more cool stuff with your hearth and home update
I can leave a few comments though that might give you more ideas for Valheim. More enemies. We need more metal. Resources. I feal like the tree that is over head needs to have a purpose. Mabye a final boss. Game might need more natural disasters. Like Tornadoes, mabye a volcano for another biom. I hope this helps if you guys are stuck on what to do next.
Please leave comments down below.
Doesn't matter because by the time this game will be finished you'll have a family and own a house.
God, I hope the sales they made would be enough to sustain them for years to come.
I watched Valhalla Rising last week. Its a great movie! (Just thought I mention it!)
I love the game! I tried to replicate Gobber's forge from How to Train Your Dragon and got myself a headache making a nice fireplace but it was worth it!
Wait. How do you get that hood and cloak at 10:53?
what does finished product look like? how far out?
really hope they add more bosses soon, tough ones..
Great game. I hope they fix the textures to take it to the next level.
Amazing team! I've started playing last week and im in love with valheim. I did put minecraft to the side for valheim because i was looking for something for a few years, and now i found it.
Minecraft is great for sure, but for me it was time to leave:)
I had read that the game had died. I had a lot of fun with it
Lol it has alot more players now than ever, everybody says that about all games.
A game could still die, and you could still have fun with it. The success of a game has nothing to do with whether you had fun with it or not.
Love the game, and I love the vibes. I just really wish updates didn't take so long. It's been over a year and the last boss still has a placeholder item and I don't have much to do in game ):
And now I like the game more.
Greatness!
Oh snap, Seb is wearing an Amon Amarth shirt lol. Still worried for this game tho, 500k peak players in march down to 18k online last night....
I'm waiting for the game to leave Early Access to buy it.
@@bowi1332
You are missing out. The only thing about this game that is early access is that they haven't finished all the biomes yet. It is worth every cent I paid for it. It is far better realised than most "so called" triple A titles.
@@Grasshoppa65 Nah... I'll wait. I'm not a fan of Early Access, but I think it's a totally valid business model, as long as customers are warned, which is the case here.
What did they think about their parent company taking most the profits from the sales of Valheim and opening several new development studios rather than invest in theirs?
We definitely needed to see this months ago, around the time the roadmap changed -- they seem like great folks!
What kind of keyboards are those?
I have an Idea for a new Weapon, where can I submit it to the Valheim crew?
Valheim is Love,Valheim is Life !
10:54 what armor is that
now we know why there are sideparted haircuts in a medieval viking game
Good game!
