Was looking for the size of the nut to remove the steering wheel, watched the rest of the video and found it very helpful. That man deserves a nice cold beer.
I have no clue as to why anyone would thumbs down this video! This was an excellent in-depth how to video step by step and I appreciate you posting it thank you!
My Nissan Qashqai's cruise hasn't been working for the past 7 - 8 months, taken car to different garages and they kept saying issue was with button. Took the car to a friends garage and got told to buy this specific part (one seen being changed in the video) was able to find it and buy it on eBay for £30. Replaced the part using this video. Very useful, Thank you.
@6:34 This is the steering angle sensor. Make sure you do not rotate the inner white bit (use tape to lock in place) and orientate it back onto the replacement clockspring. If you do this the replacement will be plug and play. If the Steering Angle Sensor is rotated, it will cause your VRD to fail when driving and the only way to sort the issue is to have the SAS re-calibrated.
Thanks for this! I have problems with the horn and other functions - they only work when I turn. Ordered a clock spring and will definitely be following your instructions on the safety lock!!!
@@ziggassedup thanks! I managed to replace it and the horn works perfectly, but because I played it safe and disconnected the battery, I got locked out of the radio which is fine, but more worryingly is the fuel gauge is now showing full even though I know it should be half a tank. Any idea? Thanks again.
@@ziggassedup I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and the gauge went back to normal 😅. It's quite annoying to have such an important gauge on the computer like that...
The first clock spring I had any dealings with was a 90's Ford Pickup, interesting experience back then...ha ha . The Nissan has come along ways from then. I feel sorry for the next person needs those parts, they are out of luck. Nice job showing the install Zig, enjoy your week
I remember going to GM training classes for air bags back in the 90s. The procedure they give is to disconnect the battery, then pull the fuse, then have one of those ground straps around your wrist. Then you can carefully remove the bag. Now carrying it with the bag away from you, lay it bag up on a non metalic bench. Install a saftey barrier 10 feet from the bag and a crossing gaurd to help people pass safely!!! lol. They were SO worried about them going off with static electricity. I've never seen non had a problem working it hot like you do. Nothing to worry about when working on an air bag system. The only thing to remember is that the circuit carries a 36 volt current. The DERM module has a capacitor that hold 36 volts for the 36 volt loop even after the battery has been disconnected. Thats why they say disconnect the battery and wait an hour to give the circuit time to discharge before working on the system. But time is money and I say work it hot!!! Keep Rocking!!!
Yeah Pat I remember those safety deals with a leg rope earth and such...There's nothing unsafe with working on them Hot...Never had one go off...Yet...lol
Hi thanks for the informative video, my g/f car has this flashing airbag light as well will changing this clock spring fix this issue or does it need a particular code for the clock spring to be the cause would appreciate any assistance? Thanks Frank
Cheers mate...9/10 times the clockspring will affect the horn or the audio controls as well as the airbag...I suggest you have someone scan the system before you do the clockspring thing...Does the light flash in a pattern or just random.?
@@ziggassedup hi thanks for your reply it first threw this dtc - B1049 DRIVER AIRBAG MODULE[ OPENI we cleared with a scan tool The it threw the same code back up after the engine was switched off and restarted, not sure if there are any other issues such as horn or cruise control functions
Cheers for the helpful video, appreciate it a lot. I was wondering if the number under the big J8 is the actual part number. I'm trying to order the right spare part but just can't seem to find the part number on my Qashqai J10. Any help is appreciated. 🙏
Thanks mate! Disconnecting the cables from the clockspring pissed me off a bit..didn’t know the grey cable was supposed to come out first. Probs should have watched a bit further into the video haha
Also for anyone that’s looking to clear the airbag light without the scanner: 1. Turn ignition on. 2. Wait until the airbag light goes off (before it starts blinking again). 3. Immediately turn ignition off and wait 5 seconds. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 five more times. 5. Start her up and the code should now be off permanently.
Hi, i have a problem that flashing air bag and horn toots when I press cruise control on, obd fault codes B1049 .my car nissan nv 200 model 2012, thank you
Nice one. Quick question : Can you clear the error code by turning the ignition on 3 times or do you need the code machine to do it ?. Nissan Dualis, Rogue, Qashqai all the same
I am planning to change the clock spring myself. The steering produces some funny sounds while turning and the whole left panel of commands on the wheel does not work. Is it for sure the clock spring, and are the error messages occurring always or in some cases?
That's a difficult one mate...Generally when the clockspring fails all the steering wheel buttons and horn stop working as well as an SRS light on the dash....Cheers
Great video Zig! Hey Zig I've been having the same issue with the clock spring needing to be replaced as it's causing the airbag light to flash endlessly. It's true that these clock springs yave been out of stock lately in Au and will need to source out from online market. Just an important question, is the "airbag spiral cable clock spring" same as the "spiral airbag clock spring?" Just want to make sure before purchasing it. Thanks in advance! 👍🏼
people keep an eye on the steering wheel angle sensor (black thing) you change from old part to new one..Do not rotate.otherwise, when finished, the car will show an abs esp system error. three yellow lights open.try to put it back as like was on old part.
Did you find that out the hard way.?..There is warning stickers on the new unit and there is a safety lock that disengages once the Clockspring is installed.
@ZIGgassedUP, So as long as that removable locking piece isn't removed until you're ready to put the steering wheel back on, you shouldn't have troubles with the steering angle sensor???? I gotta do my wife's t31 X-Trail and the steering angle error worries me, if I fuc it up can I still drive the car to a mechanic to clear the error codes?
I came back to this video to say that. Do watch out for the SAS. When I put it on the first time I must have rotated the SAS a turn to make it fit in the slots and the ESP light came on when the wheel was turned to the right. Had to do it again to get sensor on correctly. If you have the Nissan software it doesn't really matter because you can just calibrate it, but I didn't have it.
Much appreciated!! This video really was detailed and helped me to install the clock spring on my 2008 rogue. Too bad I accidentally rotated the angle sensor to fit the new one and now the traction control affects take off after start up and the lights come on throwing a error C1143....is there any way I can fix this without “recalibration” as these forums are saying?? Thank you again greatly!
what is a "clock spring" ? I have had to take that shroud off my Subarus from time to time, they area a bear to get back together , I bought my last Subaru as a parts car, it had been hit in the front and popped the air bags,, I decided to drive the car, it wasn't badly damaged in the front, I put good air bags in but the light still don't go out, I never checked the fuse , I guess it might be that.
MissouriOldTimer The clock spring hard wires all the steering wheel controls. When the horn was the only thing that had to work when the steering wheel moved it was often wired with a contact that brushed on a disk. Once the airbag was added to the steering wheel the quality of the connection needed to be improved so it, and all those controls on a modern steering wheel, run thru a clock spring. This is a retractable wiring harness that is inside the drum he removes from behind the wheel. What he does on this car is make sure the car is pointing straight ahead when this is removed and installed. There is no extra wire and if it isn’t timed correctly you can destroy the wiring in the clock spring by turning to the short side.
And to add my two cents. The reason it's called a "clock spring " is because when you look down at the ribbon of wire coiled up, it looks like a clock spring. There's no actual spring inside of this part. Just a flat ribbon of wire coiled up so it can coil tighter when you turn the wheel one way and loosen the other. Keep Rocking!!!
You've done a lot? My vdc and no slip light is on after replacing clockspring. Horn, airbag and steering wheels controls work again. Do i need to get it calibrated or did I do something wrong??
