    Math in Montessori is what absolutely sold me on the method. The trinomial cube blew my mind! I had a very traditional experience with it, enjoying it when a teacher was passionate about it, and indifferent when the teacher was too. My brother entered Montessori absolutely not interested in Math and only gravitating towards language. But with the help of the teacher in the class and the Montessori materials, he became so passionate about it! Now he is in high school, his hobby is playing with formulas in excel (😮) and is interested in accounting or programming in college. Oh and for fun, he still likes to sit around and read books or research random facts. His Montessori upbringing is so very evident!

    I never realized how Montessori my kindergarten class was until I started watching your videos a few months ago! From the shelving to wooden materials to resolving taking turns with other kids by myself, everything had a structure that made it so organized. It was so appealing to me when I was starting to learn English at 4/5 before I had to move. I’m turning 24 next month and have no kids but my mom babysits toddlers so those Montessori & Me tracing boards would be a great start for them to get comfortable holding a pencil. But at the same time...Haha, those boards are calling to me.

    It's important to become fluent in basic arithmetic, even, just to live life and perform tasks. I recall doing things, like baking pies to learn fractions, was often a sore point for fathers who considered it too new age-y. Math and language skills are crucial to all learning and they need to be learned from foundations all the way through to reaching for the stars. There are good and bad ways to learn, but there is no short-cut to getting the foundations solid and building upon them. There are no tricks for just getting through a test and not remembering what you were supposed to have learned. But there are ways to learn smart and have fun. It is a huge gift from Dr. Montessori that she gave us an outline of when children's brains are ready to address certain topics, concepts so that we are not trying to force them to learn something for which they are not yet ready nor are we neglecting stimuli appropriate to their level of development. Congrats on the handsome new product. And thanks for the links to it.

    Today me and my cousin were discussing about online home schooling plans available in India for 1.5+ year kids, concluding that "Let a child learn on their own pace." We actually have kids of Kylie and Mia ages and were surprised to see parents rushing out for these plans, forcing activities of writing/reading in such a tender age.
    Give a slice of everything to taste, let them choose what they wish to have. Is what we wish to do.

    Though Montessori method for Maths is really great, I think we can always add something "new". For me it was a sort of a revelation the KUMON method. Their worksheets are so wonderful, and the kids just ADORE it (proven by my own daughter!). In the USA there are a huge range of these worksheets, and it is awesome! You can choose exactly what you child needs at the moment. (it starts for kids from 3 yo to... depending on the country where you live). And it is not only about Maths 😍

    Hi Ashley, thanks for another great video! I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a video about the differences/similarities between Montessori and RIE approaches? I’m a part-time reliever at an ECE centre and a lot of the teachers really love RIE and dislike Montessori, which is confusing for me because my understanding of the approaches is that they’re quite similar. I would love to have it laid out in a video so I could discuss with them the similarities/differences a bit more clearly!

    Just wondering what is the use for the mat under the activities introduced?

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 года назад +2

      That is a Montessori rug. In Montessori learning environmental, children are free to work in the space that is comfortable for them, be it at a single table in a chair, a larger table with a friend, a floor table, or just on the floor. Some works do require the use of a table and chair just to make sure the work is balanced, but typically the floor is always an option. But to still provide a guided and controlled space that separates the chd's work space from the rest of the class, a rug is used. Some works get quite large (continent maps or the bank game), and multiple rugs will be used. In essence. the rug mimics the table top. So the child can still set up his or her work correctly. In a class, this also signals to other kids that this space is occupied for work, and children are very careful to walk AROUND the rug. Never on it or over it.

    Hi Ashley I love live your contents and I have been following you for little over a year now. I started my own at home Montessori based on your tips and i have to say it is getting challenging with my 9 month old mobile baby 😄. I have few question though in this regard. So i have an activity shelf set up for her which she loves but our problem is she pull out the stuff, plays for like a second (for example the shape puzzle- she will pull out the pieces and that’s it) and she will move on to pulling out another activity. Which to me is fine. Just like the Montessori approach suggests I follow her lead however, I want to make sure I am doing this right and not setting up a bad habbit. I mean it in a way that when she tries pulling out new toys or books and then pull some more out she is creating a pool of books and toys and also a mess. So how do I teach her that play with few and then we place them back to being out some more? Please help. Also, I clean up every single time after she plays so that way when she comes back she sees everything is clean and placed to where they belong but I am just concerned on what if she just makes mess and never learns to clean up afterwards. Is she a little too young to understand that may be? Am i worrying myself for no reasons. Thank you so much.

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 года назад +1

      I personally don't think they're too young to catch on to the concept of clean and messy, but at this age, it is not easy to control that for them. Especially once we get to the trajectory schema! We had to teach the concept of putting works back before getting a new one even to the 3 year olds in our 3-6 class, so I'm not expecting my 11 month old to really do that just yet. What I did find helpful, right at that 9 month mark, was to start cleaning in front of her, as she looked on, and even asking to help. That was right when she started being interested in containment-putting things into other things. So I would start putting things back in a basket and ask her to add to it. Then walk the basket back with her.
      Did she end up pulling it out almost immediately after half the time? Yeah...but I've noticed her being more and more selective in her works recently and not just pulling everything off of the shelves too. And at the end of the day, we do as much of a clean up as we can with her, and then daddy and I will adjust it during the night so it is pleasant for her to return to in the morning. But that way she has helped throughout the day and even the big cleanup at night, and can slowly start understanding that routine.

  • @elifdemir6127

    Thank you Ashley, it was informative and helpful as always. 💕 I have a question and i think most of the parents come across this problem. Does Kylie ever lie? If she does, what do you do? What is the right approach? What is the right respond? Is there anything to do? Can you make a video about this matter? Or you can just mention it in one of your videos if it is something short. I really don't know what to do. :( Thank you so much for everything 🌺❤

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 года назад +2

      The best thing you can do as a parent is know that children do lie, it is their way of testing their imagination and our limits, and, in turn, to know that your child may indeed lie. The children who we noticed tend to lie the most are ones whose parents were hesitant to believe anything other than their child's view of the story, which meant the action was never addressed at home. Sometimes lying is intentional, sometimes it is an over exaggeration that got out of control in their little minds. But what is most important, is to have a conversation about this with your child often. You can do so with stories like the Boy Who Cried Wolf, you can do so with incidents you see come up in real life...talking about what lying is, what consequences it has, and how we should speak the truth even if it is difficult is the best way to manage this behavior. And if you have this conversation after your child lied, make sure it is not about punishing or humiliating them, but simply a teaching point. And always end with an affirmation that you still love them. That they are not bad, but that behavior itself is what is not good. But also, as always, modeling. If kids see us constantly making small lies ("I'm on my way!" But we aren't even in the car or "I can't make it because I don't feel well" and they see or hear us say we feel completely fine) , they will take that as a cue that lying IS ok. It is hard for them to differentiate a small white lie from a "bad" lie still, so we have to be really careful with what we say and do in front of them too.

      @@MariaandMontessori Thank you soo much! I really appreciate it! I didn't know how to bring this topic up and what to say him. I think i can start with a story book as you said. It is a simple but great idea. How come i couldn't think of this all this time. Sometimes i just feel stuck and can't think straight. Thank you 🙏 Yes, modeling is absolutely one of the most important things in being a parent. We already don't lie. Thinking that this is a developmental stage made me relieved. Maybe after reading the book and talking about lying, when he lies again i can give the story as an example and try to talk about the matter. I hope it goes well. I am going to give it a try. Thank you again for your help 😊💕

    • @MariaandMontessori
      @MariaandMontessori 3 года назад +1

      @@elifdemir6127 of course! I think just like hindsight is 20/20, someone else's questions and concerns have a clearer solution than our own! It also helped to see this in a class. When you see all children, all the way from "follows all the rules and is the model student" to "tests limits and requires daily reminders" lie, you HAVE to come to terms that almost, if not all, will try it. And really, the big difference between those who continued to do it vs those who stopped is how willing the parents are to accept that yes kids lie and we need to be ready to tackle it. Sounds like you're on the right path. Best of luck to you in this journey! I hope it goes well 🤗

    Phenomenal! Thank you for this! I just love the natural approach to activities with items and materials around the house. This may be a silly question (and maybe other parents can relate) but how young can you start these activities? My 20 month old has an insatiable appetite for learning, particularly math and language. She knows all her triangles, rounds, parallelograms and polygons! Well before my desire to teach them lol. We plan on sending her to a Montessori preschool at 3yo but I worry we’ll teach incorrectly or too prematurely and ruin the Montessori magic at school. We have sandpaper numbers and letters but I do recall your recommendation in prior videos to not replicate materials from a Montessori preschool if you plan on sending your child to one. You could invite the child o specifically count with you, or ask them at the end how many they counted or ask if they can show you how they count. Try different approaches and see what your child takes to best!

      I do ☺️ I was trying to stick with activities that don’t require specialized Montessori classroom materials for this video, since this is a “Montessori at Home” series (and it wasn’t a homeschool-specific video). 😉

    Cn u gv me suggestions to make baby talk..

    • @SomeoneBeginingWithI
      @SomeoneBeginingWithI Год назад

      Most babies will learn to talk by hearing adults talking and singing to them. They babble when they're starting to be able to make sounds, and then they will start putting those sounds together into words.
      If you think your baby is taking a long time to learn to talk and you are worried they might not learn, take them to see their doctor and tell the doctor about your worries. Some children have disabilities that mean they take longer to learn to talk, and they might need extra help from a special teacher. If they do have a disability and need extra help, taking them to a doctor is important becuase doctors find out why the child is taking a long time to learn, and what things could help them.
      Talking and singing to your baby is important. Try to talk to your baby as much as you can, and sing to them every day. If you are worried they are taking a long time to learn to talk, take them to a doctor to find out if they need extra help.

    I would like to have a daughter interested in these amazing activities you talk about in your videos... but her attention span is.......zero second... I'm patiently trying everything with no success. I'm seriously jealous.
