Extremely helpful video Dr.Chen, an Indian IMG here. It was really helpful to know that we shouldn’t talk about some things we ourselves haven’t dealt with in our life. I guess we have to be mindful of how personal we can get in a personal statement. Thank you for such a great video.

    Hi Dr. Chen,
Thanks so much for the video! I'm an MSI3. In addition to your suggestions, are there additional considerations when writing personal statements for dermatology?
    Thanks in advance!

Great question. The main difference is that the personal statement in dermatology (or any field for that matter) is less focused on convincing the reader that you want to be a dermatologist or whatever -ologist. It's more about how you are best suited for that particular residency program and the field. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the tips Dr. Chen! But I would like to ask if the personal statement has to be like in a specific number/s of paragraph/s?

Nope! There is no set number of paragraphs. Usually the statements I see (and the ones I wrote) are 4-5, but there's no rule or expectation that it has to be a certain number.
