  • Meet Odin, a dog we recently took in here at K9 Intuition who displays serious signs of human aggression. Recently, he went as far as to attack his owner and the owner was saved by her other dog, a Cane Corso, who attacked Odin off of her. Publishing our training with this animal has spiked a massive controversy on our social media pages, so in this video lead trainer Stefano speaks his mind on the ongoing situation.
Choosing the right trainer for your animal matters. So if you in Lancaster, Palmdale, Quartz Hill, Valencia, Santa Clarita, or surrounding areas and looking to improve your relationship with your dog, text (626) 945-5875 the phrase "TRAIN MY DOG" to set up an evaulation 📲🦮

He looks like a boerboel. I rescued 2 boerboel puppies. I kept the male and I homed the female. The male (Chevy) bonded with me 100 percent. As he grew he began to resource guarding me and wanted to rip my fiance to shreds. He was raised with both of us. But I was doing all the training, exercising and feeding. Chevy would even challenge me at times. Now I have worked with dogs for over 30 years. I started as a vet tech and then became a groomer. I have a gift with aggressive and difficult dogs. I knew how to handle these challenges. These boerboels can be super dominant dogs and aren't for the average dog owner. You really have to know what you are doing. They will challenge you. They won't except harsh punishment. They are extremely intelligent and intuitive. They know who you are better than you do. That being said. I was going through some inner turmoil and was weaker then I normally would be. I was emotionally compromised and the dog new it. He made it his job to protect me from everything. I wasn't going to put him down but I took measures to keep everyone safe. I muzzle trained him and I was the only one who handled him. I will be honest and say he was the first dog I was actually a bit afraid of. These dogs do well with strong confident leaders who know what they are doing. They need physical and mental stimulation everyday. If you buy a dog with courage to confront lions and hyenas. Then you yourself better have more confidence than the dog. Thank you for helping this owner and dog. Breeders are irresponsible with this breed. They should only sell them to very skilled and educated owners. Definitely not for first time owner or for the weak. They will run over you. Goodluck! There is no greater love than the heart of these dogs.

Hi... I totally agree with you about the boerboel breed. They are truly dominant. The world is theirs and you're just living in it but it's not your world but theirs. They need firm corrections, distraction away from what they want to do. Being harsh and cruel will just get you mauled and worse. Once they know you are the boss, they will behave but you have to be the boss daily. Just know that being firm with correction is not abuse. These dogs are very intelligent even more so than some people.

I now own a female Boerboel and she's an absolutely amazing dog. She came to me about a month and a half ago with back pain (possibly neurological / spinal) and seriously dog reactivity on leash. I started working with her right away to address both issues, because pain and illness can absolutely exacerbate behavioral issues.
Fast forward to today and she accepts her muzzle willingly, walks beside me (rather than out in front) on leash, will "sit" and "down" willingly during our structured walks, and her reactivity is a little better (we're definitely still working on that, but making progress). Her back pain had made her afraid of getting up into or down out of my SUV and afraid of her rear end being touched to the point that she would scream if it looked like you were going to touch her rear and would rather choke half to death than allow herself to be led into or out of the SUV. Because she was overweight, I've worked on getting a little of that weight off of her so that there's less strain on her back and joints and we're starting to work with stairs to get in and out of the SUV. Building confidence and trust around getting into and out of the SUV will ultimately help with reducing her anxiety and insecurity so that we can better address her reactivity.
All it takes is someone who cares enough to observe and work through the triggers and solutions. Problems like aggression or reactivity aren't resolved overnight, but simply being consistent can do wonders for both the dog's and the handler's confidence, respect, and trust. Not everybody can (or wants to) rehabilitate aggressive or reactive dogs and that's fine. But if a person feels they're up for the challenge and understands how to work with the dog without making the problems worse, then let them. Sometimes dogs just need a different handler or environment (or both) to help bring them out of habitual behaviors.

Im almost 40 years old and I started my dog training career properly about 9 years ago when I had a need for a service dog and had a dog who had innately the right touch for the job but when I went to other "trainers" they only took my money and told me " this dog is unteachable, this dog is unable to even get the basics, this dog will never be able to become a service dog" and gladly took my money to do so. I almost.ended up on the streets because I was paying them instead of rent. That pissed me off so much I went into full Thanos mode and went about it myself. 1,5 years later the dog was certified. Was it easy? Fuck no. Did I want to give up? Many times a day. Would I do It again? Oh you can bet your last dollar I would and I will. This was one of the most rewarding Journeys of my life and even tho it was super tough and stressfull, I got shit done that other "professionals" in the field could and would not. During this Journey I met my mentor and she is now helping me get certified as a trainer and get my business growing. Keep beeing curious and humble and dont give up!

Then proceed to show them the results from your training.

Thats when I decided im not just gonna train dogs the right way and never give up on a dog, but that I need to do that properly, open my own business and all, the whole shebang. The success my dogs and my business has Is a direct and constant middle finger waving at them and I love it. I too am a REAL trainer like yourself. I have 8 dogs who were previously discarded, neglected, abandoned, tortured, feral, and previously put on the dangerous dogs. I deal with the hard cases. like you, I do not make promises other than I will do anything to help this dog. I have a dog that was but no longer is like the husky that you have described. Rarely, I would ever give up on a dog. Rehab takes an incredible amount of time and commitment. I am only 5 feet tall and a 69-year-old female. I still work with the big guy 100 pounds. I am 100% behind in everything you have said. Ignorant people with keyboards love to type, but I don't see them in the trenches, risking their lives to help a dog. This is what real trainers do and rehabilitated do. I have trained dogs since 1969. I can relate to everything that you are saying in this video. I am subscribing to your channel.

I also had a problem with my first dog. He was poorly trained and he was actually a working dog. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. That was 40 years ago. He bit my husband's ear. It was a serious injury. We gave this dog a second chance. We changed everything in his training and grew with this dog. The vet gave us tips at this time.
This dog has grown old by our side. We did a big tour of Europe with him, he was the most incorruptible guard dog I know and he finally had a job that fulfilled him. Every dog that isn't absolutely crazy and bites deserves a second chance. In my opinion, without exception. The owner did with you everything right. I wish her with all my heart that her dog comes back and that she can spend the best time of her life with him. Best wishes
    Greetings from Germany.
(To the haters: If these trainers, who are still green behind the ears, accidently are bitten by a dog because they are doing their program, then these are the people who are the first to point at the dog and say it is to blame and has to go. They are unable to properly analyze problems or seek help in a timely manner because their big egos get in the way.)

Too many people get these magnificent animals because they're beautiful creatures but they fail to do their research about what they were bread for. Most are guardian breeds, herding breeds. They're not always suited for people who are looking for a pet. That said, it's awesome that the owner recognized that she needed to reach out for help. It's easy to tell someone else what to do especially when we don't know what actually happened. Even still, to make a judgement about what someone else should do with their dog is much like telling someone what they should do with their child how acts out. People need to keep their crappy comments to themselves, especially when they don't know what they're talking about! Please keep sharing.

I learned from reactive dog channels who legitimately work with reactive dogs. I was able to learn how to help him and he is 100% a different dog now. I'm new to dog training myself. Grew up on a farm, been around animals my whole life, but I recognize I'm still new to this game. Dog training is after all working with the people just as much as the dog in many cases. Although this video is sad, it's a good message with points that are all very true. For me, some of the hardest things about this industry is dealing with other toxic trainers, bringing each other down and throwing shade on other people's methods. People love being right, even (like with this case) if it means taking the life of an animal unnecessarily, just because they wouldn't be able to help. The human ego can be a disgusting thing. Have some humility, keep and open mind and ALWAYS be willing to learn more.
To address your comment on the 20 something year old female trainers... I am a women and I know what you are talking about. Just look at the equine community. Swarming with holier than thou, better than anyone else girls and women, who have no business rubbing their shit attitudes off on their animals. I don't understand how this came to be, but I wish people could see the negativity they are spreading and do better!
Thanks for the video and all the great info you're putting out! It's been affirming for me and my journey with training. Good luck to Odin! I love my corso to the moon, they have potential to be great dogs!

He bit me and other family members several times over 10 years and recently bit my face. Good thing was that he didn’t have the intention to kill me (more likely correction) so the injury was sustained at the minimum. I still believe in him and I know it’s relationship issue. I know nothing about this situation. I just lost my boxer at almost 10 years old. She was my first dog ever and I made sooooo many mistakes raising her. I didn’t know what I was doing. Still, she grew into a well balanced family dog, social, funny, playful...a little spoiled. Us humans, many times, have expectations of our dogs that aren’t reasonable for their temperament, their energy, their physical needs, their breed. Just the idea that we are their parents is faulty, in my opinion. The boy in the video seem like a love. From the comments, is it possible that he needs a different environment, more suitable for his temperament?

We take in Neapolitan Mastiffs "with a history". Since 1983, all have more or less turned out quite well. Some could be rehomed, some stayed, and in most cases the fault was with owners who wanted huge, impressive dogs they did not understand. I stand 155 cm, am no match for a really bad tempered Neo, and people often attack me verbally for what I do. I agree with all of you for writing that EACH AND EVERY DOG DESERVES A CHANCE! Especially by someone who knows what he is doing. Thank you for giving Odin his chance, and hats off to his mom who is not giving up on him.

9:53 Looks like a Boerboel, being over 60yrs old and living in SA, I have known, owned and trained these dogs most of my life. They are not dogs for the average dog owner. Yes you do get those that are just couch potatoes, but they are farm/working dogs at the end of the day and that is in their genetic make up. IMO most people assume that obediance training will fix behaivours, the sits, downs, stays etc, it does help, but won't sort the lssue out. This is about boundries being set with consistancy and being fair to the dog from very early on in the pups life. You can have well behaved dogs, that are not well trained and well trained dogs that are not well behaved. Well done for taking this dog on and best of luck to Odin and owner. As for the kids making all the noise at the end of the day that's all they are....... children.
He doesn't look like an aggressive dog at the end of the day, if it doesn't work out with the owner, it may just be the wrong dog for that owner and rehoming him with a more suitable owner may be the answer for Odin.

I'm a small time cat rescuer and I had over 20 cats at that time and one of the cats turned out to be a big boy (not Maine Coon big, but Malaysian Local domestic shorthair big), and he got into this huge fight with another one of my male cats. The other cat was losing badly so I got in to stop the fight and was scruffing him beside me on the sofa. I was calming him and myself down but he was still in attack mode and decided to suddenly lunge at me tearing into my face. Front and back paws were ripping away and he actually tried to lunge to bite my face. Luckily I saw him actually staring at me just before he lunged so I held onto his scruff even tighter. He still got me but it could have been so much worse if I wasn't being aware of his body and demeanor. Long story short, I wanted to put him down. I was petrified if he got out of the house and attacked a neighbour's animal and if they weren't as aware, it could be so much worse. I took him to my vet and she was very understanding but she said, give it a few days. Left him at the vet and then a few days became weeks and he calmed down dramatically and they managed to see a softer side to him. At the end, a girl had been visiting him regularly and she fell in love with him and ended up adopting him. He became a lone pet cat and never attacked her. I still stick to my guns that I would have put him to sleep, prob because I was worried for my other weaker cats and anyone who got in between (people). But I'm very happy he got out of my house that he must have hated being in and ended up with a good life. Not all people get the pets they want. He's the only cat in my years of having hundreds of cats in the past 30 years that did this.

The Push Back Is Real!🤗 To the wonderful owner and professional team at K9 Intuition: thank you so much for the much deserved shout out to the know-nothing Gen X and Gen Z crowd who run their mouths and live life as teenagers-masquerading-as-adults. These are the same people who wouldn't know dog psychology and minuscule canine behavior clues if it bit them where the sun doesn't shine. (And, of course, they would be mostly females....as usual). This magnificent dog deserves every once of help that can be given. Finding the missing link, in what his personality reacts to.
And, perhaps even, as Caesar Milan educates us: it's the human's that need to do the changing, as I'm sure the owner would gladly do. I know I would.
Lastly: even if all else fails, as to being around humans, could he not be given to a rural farm to be used as a security system for their livestock, against predators? I know he would miss the physical human interaction, but at least he would have a life.

Im kind of new in the professional dog training world with that said, and with the risk imma be branded a douchebag, I wholeheartedly approve the message in this video. I only had a handfull of tough cases so far and I did not tackle them alone since I knew right away that alone I had no chance so I called my mentor to help me, she is a premier behaviorist in our country and im Lucky she agreed to mentor me. This is the first video I seen of yours but you already have made a fan out of me. Cases like these are so tough these "baby" trainers have no idea because they never even tried working with such a case, they simply go "yeah we cant help this dog, put it down" . I had something similar told to me and let me tell you, whenever I hear "we cant help this dog" my blood starts to boil because how ignorant or lazy are these fucking people is just too much for me. Why the hell do they even call and consider themselves dog trainers if they are not willing to do the "bad" part of the job, you either do it all or none at all. Dont you think i'd much rather play with puppies all day and teach sits and spins and cuddle with them than stare down a fucking dogo Argentino that put in her mind im there to hurt her and her family (and so is everybody else) and she aint having none of what im trying to sell her? They would say yeah put that dogo down and go back to play with puppies. Thats not me. If you bring me a dog and tell me look we love this dog but hes just so problematic we dont know what to do, I would never turn you down, no matter the issues the dog has, if I feel like I can help the dog I will try to help, if I realize the job is too tough for me currently imma bring in help, I will consult with other trainers and so on but the one thing I will absolutely not do Is tell anyone to put their dog down before I have exhausted every single other option first. I became a trainer because I spent 2k euros for other trainers that I have a dog that will never learn anything beyond what she already knew and no way she would ever be able to get certified as a working dog, after we got the certification I went back to all those trainers and gave them a framed copy of her certification just so they understood how much they fucked up (not to mention I almost ended up on the street because I was spending all my money on them instead of rent Nd such).

I've been with care rescue, saving red zone fighter breeds and 6:32 learned that not all dog lovers are the same, love in different degrees, and in parallel willing to different levels of risk. I've said often, I love my dogs more than people. Keep the faith and don't be disuaded to listen to naysayers who don't have a clue. But slinging dirt back don't solve it. If you want people to really hear you, speak in a manner in which they will more likely listen. I can not join rescue programs cuz I'll lose it on someone I see harmin. So I pick up the aftermath, and when you see the minute their eyes change and you win them, can't nuthin beat that.🎉So I get it. Keep up the great work you do. I admire your dedication bud.

One of our k9 trainers was the county behavioral assessment for the dogs and the shelter and would immediately “nope euthanize” any negative behaviors. Not having any understanding of trauma or fear or pain or medical conditions.
She even ran a popular advice and training podcast.
She gave my lab a fail during a simple brushing because “he’s growling” the other assessor what like this guy has had 100% finds agility and therapy scores, he’s not growling.
I had a talker. He made adorable grumbly noises that sounded like laughter or idk happy grunts when he was enjoying something like being brushed.
12 years following that was countless veteran crisis intervention, missing children found, water rescues, and just endless work with victims.
We need more people like you. There’s so much more to a bad day aggression moment that can easily become remarkable very much needed and loved dogs.

My best wishes for Odin and his Mom. Thank you for your work and honesty. I dont think that there are many trainers out there who really can handle aggression problems. Most trainers simply work through their prefered methods, and if it doesnt work, the dog is "untrainable". Especially the younger ones who think they know it all are stuck in their ways and condem any other trainer who doesnt apply the same "method". Dogs are individuals, with their own history, character, personality.
A good trainer learns from their dogs as much as they teach them, Sometimes even more.
Sometimes I believe, there is some hidden jealously involved.. my method wouldnt work, so yours are not allowed to as well, because it means I may be wrong.
    Shame on them

We took on a stray lurcher about 8 months ago. Abandoned by gypsies and left tied up. She was in a poor state with leg cuts, ear infection etc. She went for me twice on the first day. But gradually settled down. However, about 2 months ago she suddenly started attacking our older rescue and bit me shortly afterwards. She has always been lead reactive to people and dogs but for some reason resource guarding has started which seems to be around sniffing grass. Two behaviourists have said to have put her down because same household dog on dog aggression around resource guarding is perhaps the hardest thing to stop, and I was close because my older dog was the priority and as she'd gone for me too with two grandchildren that had to be an option. My vet, who is great, said they too would be concerned at the level of reaction she showed in the vets. I wouldn't send her to a rescue centre because they've all pretty much said she'd be put down anyway so if that has to happen I'd rather it was here after months of love and affection. But for now we are managing the situation, working on all sorts of obedience.... we'll see... PS. Not really sure why I've put this comment but perhaps needed to see it in black and white for myself!!
