Years ago I read a book about Oswald, and it said that when he was a young Marine stationed in Japan working as a radar tech, that he openly received Communist magazines in his mail and that the Marine Corps didn’t care. Some of his fellow Marines were shocked that he was so open about his support of Russian and Communism, receiving books and magazines, attending meetings of a Communist group in town (I don’t recall the name of the city where he was stationed), and basically thumbing his nose at the Corp, all without any inquiry or action being taken. He looks healthy to me for some one who died from alcoholism.
He was addicted to morphine as well.
Healthy? He looks 70 yet he was in his 40s
@@afriqiyyya people aged faster back then.
He was overweight, smoked like a fiend, and was an alcoholic. I think he looked terrible for his age.
Don't mess with the U.S. Army. You've been warned.
Although McCarthy needed to be disposed of, this account does very little to explain how it was actually carried out.
No one messes with the Army!
The present of time was a former General in World War II
ya.. so if i were the enemy, i'd find way mess up the Army first!
He did all that damage and he hadn't even hit _fifty_ yet?!
He preyed on people's fears, as all demagogues do.
@@TheSaltydog07 He was actually correct. One of the greatest Russian Spies was a man who sold artwork in Langley Virginia. CIA employees routinely purchased from him all the time. And you can't deny the subversive actions in colleges in the 60's through today of sworn socialists. He was correct. He always was.
Despicable human
The “downfall” was thanks to Ike, Flanders and other GOP guys. His “downfall” was that he was still in the Senate. Some “downfall”
Are there any videos giving the other side of the story?
Hardly. Your best bet is to RUclips search Army McCarthy hearings and filter the results to only show long (20+ min) videos and watch some of the hearings for yourself.
the commies probably censored all those.
There is no other side of the story, just like how there’s no other side to how Johnson lied about the Gulf of Tonkin or how JFK approved of the Bay of Pigs
McCarthy's side of the story was the same as today's. He was lying in order to gain political power. He, wife Jean and Roy Cohn were upfront about it, at least to each other. They went so far as to manufacture fake memos, which were shown to be fake when the secretary said to have typed them wavered on the stand.
@@switchbladekid1365 oh that's evil. but some form of cancelism is necessary at times when political infiltration becomes outrageous and toxic, that it threatens your own existence.
There was a prior private agreement between them not to ruin this innocent lawyer's career.

Not really . . .
Huh...right about what? McCarthy was just making up fake news. Lies that had nothing to do with actual espionage.
PBS AMERICAN EXPERIENCE did a much more complete retelling of this
Hero who fought communism!
His “downfall” was going to the back of the bus. He was never punished.
Well he completely lost his entire political career, all his power, and all his money, and he spent the last few decades of his life drinking himself to death as a sad old broke alcoholic, eventually his liver killing him from cirrhosis from the alcoholism.
President Eisenhower is the one who brought him down although he did it all in secret. He planned this for years, and his plan worked perfectly, it made Mccarthy lose all his credibility and they prevented him from ever getting elected again. Mccarthy's mistake was to criticise the military, claiming that it was overridden with communist spies. Eisenhower, being the top military General before his presidency and now was obviously the commander in chief, absolutely hated Mccarthy from that day onwards. Though he never spoke about it publicly. But yeah, that was such a slap in the face to a 5 star general like Eisenhower that it became his mission to take down Joe mcarthy completely and utterly so that he'd never be able to tear the country apart with lies again. And Eisenhower won that war, that secret war, like he won every war. That's what he does. He's _THE_ General of generals, generally
@@duffman18 I know, Ike was awesome!
Meanwhile, lies? What lies? A lot McCarty mentioned was true! He was still a senator, he voted, he didn’t lose his career, unless you want to say he lost his power that he had (unrivaled till this day). He was always an alcoholic….He is Irish don’t you know. I’d say who he took out suffered way worse…yes? And if you ask me, some of them deserved that fate
More like "America's Downfall Was Not Listening To McCarthy."
This is a true statement
McCarthy's right hand man, Roy Cohn, was Donald Trump's mentor.
Cohn was bedding McCarthy and Edgar Hoover
Looks like he was right after all.
Example?

Why does the number "45" suddenly come to mind?

See how Dems turn on their own today ?
being socialist isn't a bad thing. Just because you are socialist doesn't mean you hate your country, you just don't think the current economic system is the way you see fit. Mccarthy accusing people he didn't agree with wasn't right, he was violating their first amendment rights by not allowing them to speak their rights.
Look at every socialist country, USSR with the NKVD secret police etc.
Socialists want big government and to silence their opposition.
@@HateTheIRS Yes, but socialism in it's own terms is different. "a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole." There is nothing said that includes big government or silencing opponents. Evil socialists may want these things. But all evil dictators want these things, so I'm not sure this is the issue. I'm not supporting these communist nations. I had family executed by communist china. But, in some forms, socialism may be the ideal way to do things.

All because Roy Cohn was about to lose his lover, H. David Shine. Cohn had this much power, long before Trump became his boy toy.
He was accusing them of Communism only because he wasn't getting his way concerning how he believed China should be bombed. How many people today are like him with their own cause while hoping for more followers online and in public when offering false accusations towards others with less things who have diverted any attention at all away from them? - Like only a harmless work of art given by indigenous children to them in a public place. He had Roy Cohn on his side who would represent Donald Trump in lawsuits before his death in the 80s.
The military industrial complex was/is big business. And business was booming in the 50s. McCarthy wasn't completely wrong accusing the army of communism . They basically enforced communism like tyranny around the world. But they used capitalism's money to do so.
