Joseph Welch: the man who finally called out Joe McCarthy for what he was. You cannot deny that we just witnessed a masterclass attorney, one of the best of his time, delivering an absolutely brilliant performance before the committee. There’s a reason why this is remembered as one of the most iconic and influential case studies in 20th century us legal history.
Wolper and Landsburg had previously collaborated on "BIOGRAPHY", with Mike Wallace as narrator. In fact, Landsberg previously produced and directed the 1963 "BIOGRAPHY" profile of Joseph McCarthy {with most of the same film footage, via Sherman Grinberg, used in this episode}. 5:58- WALLACE: "By, 1952, Senator McCarthy has seriously rattled the Democratic Party. In his own Republican party, however, McCarthy's power soars. He is hailed at the 1952 Republican Convention."
This show was on in the late 70s on channel 9 or 11 in Metro New York City / Ct Saturday morning, I was eight or nine when I first saw it and loved it, I was already a history, buff the music, the intensity, and the narrator, Edmund O’Brien, Great show thank you for posting. Be great if you could post all of them.
Well, McCarthy was clearly not entirely correct, but was not entirely wrong either. Oh well, that water went under the bribridge long ago. Still, it is interesting (and nice) to see the manners and styles of the men in those days. Thanks for posting the video! 😀
The back story of Fisher wa s that both had privately acknowledged that he had some associations with communism in his younger days, but was no longer involved, and they had agreed ahead of time not to ruin this man's legal career.

Only for his descendent to bring that question back to the front lines when he seemingly defended and tried to cover up an attack on the capitol. Regardless of what people think of the attack, he seemed unusually insistent on "stopping the investigation" and blocking it at all costs. the McCarthy name is no longer synonymous with "innocent" but a mix up with the Beatles member with the same name and opposite political views threw a huge wrench in that. I think a lot of people get the two mixed up like how Robert F Kennedy keeps using his great uncle's legacy and name despite having the complete opposite political views.
I wouldn't say McCarthy was right, but one of our political parties is actively attempting to hand the United States over to the Russians. That's so obvious, a glass eye in a duck's ass could see it. SEEN any?

Men like Welch are what makes America great.

Picking on mostly guys who were idealistic in their youths but moved on
Blacklisted by History is an excellent read.

And for the 2024 Version, "This is a story of MEN IN CRISIS: Donald, Rudy, Man, Woman, Person, Camera, TV." 👴
You seem proud of that one

Few men are more vindicated than Mccarthy.

Yes, vindicated 100%.
The clown world we're living in today in proof of that.
Does the U.S. Army still fight communism?
What did you have in mind?
The CIA does lol
They fight audit accountants keeping track of taxpayers money !
You could substitute Trump for McCarthy and it would be today.
Why was that so good?
Joe McCarthy reminds me of trump.
McCarthy's Chief Counsel Roy Cohn went on to mentor Donald Trump in his early career.... one could argue that explains the similarity..
@@thezorba1like i said.. an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
Roy Cohn was trying to protect his boyfriend. McCarthy missed the lavender in his own camp😅😅😅
The show Fellow Travellers the wife told him to DROP those two guys.
Joseph Welch played a judge in the 1959 hit Anatomy of A Murder. In 1960 he died at 69 of a heart attack.

McCarthy was an opportunistic show pony. He appealed to the stupidity of his compatriots. I see that hasn't changed

See the film Goodnight and Good luck. How McCarthy got his clocked cleaned by Edward R. Murrow.
