whenever i feel sad i just want to listen to this piece and whenever i listen to it with this trio i feel like the music heal and hug me so deeply. I really love this perform... Thank you ...
First saw him perform in the late 60's and have been lucky enough to have seen him and his fellow musicians at four more recitals. Just wish he/they still toured - many thanks gentlemen.
Still in love and awe of this - when I first saw him play he was accompanied Christian Garros and Pierre Michelot. I hope M. Loussier is well and happy!
That's when I saw him first too, at the Royal Albert Hall. I think he got about 18 encores that night, whilst Dame Margot Fonteyn got 32 in New York! A memorable evening ended when I waited patiently for him at the stage door to get the all important autograph, which he happily obliged me with. I still have the programme from that fantastic night.
I didn't know until recently that he was the man who brought us "Hamlet - the mild cigar". The discovery was compounded by the realisation that I share the same birthday as him and a great French engineer named Andre Chapelon.
Rushing in where angels fear to tread, it's SO nice to hear one of the one in a thousand jazz reworkings that actually work....and work WONDERFULLY.....
breath taking, least to say i see more and my brain is pop out, or something, what is word?? this is...... never knew air on g could have this kind of emotions in it, or be expressed in such way the approach, is unique, and "correct" (i really don't know how to explain correct, or the similar concept on it)
I remember being at 6th form college in the ealy 1970s and going into the empty room every lunchtime which had a grand piano and teaching myself to play this bar by bar each week for the whole 2 years... and a tecaher walked in on me and congratulated me... but at the time there was guiy in the year azboe who looked like Rick Wakeman and would play the grand piano in the main hall and play tubular bells all the way through.... I was in awe... now? well......
Improvisation is not meant at improving anything, but at making it personal and different, it's an interesting exercise of creativity, both for musician AND listener. For listeners can also be creative, which is something important & understated. If one can only play exactly what's written, 1 recorded version would be enough, so I don't know what the other thousands out there add. In any way, Shakespeare's approval of today's English is not needed for writing beautiful contemporary poetry.
I totaly agree, i find it sad that people now a day when they think of Improv they think of Jazz and only Jazz. Sure improv was a huge part of Jazz and its struture but the best of improv was done on the old harpsichord
Someone said J.Loussier was a molestor of Bachs music but for my opinion he only proves that without Bach there would be neither european jazz nor modern rock music.
Its on Jacques Loussier Play Bach No. 2. You can buy both 1 and 2 on CD at Amazon here www.amazon.co.uk/d/CDs-Vinyl/Play-Bach-No-Jacques-Loussier/B00NEOOP1E/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1486128066&sr=1-1&keywords=jacques+loussier+play+bach+no+2 If you want Vinyl try discogs. If you like what Mr Loussier does check out Eugen Cicero. Enjoy! I know I do :)
Until I read your comment I did not know that Maestro Loussier had died so thank you for informing me. I have loved his music for decades and I wish I shared his talent though we shared a burthday albeit years apart. I cannot think of anyone who performed such a serviice to music in as much as through his style he brought classical music to the attention of people who otherwise nay have remained ignorant of it. Blessings and peace
Just imagine 2 sec, Bach, the night he lost his 7th or 8th child, playing piano half drunk have lucid and completely broke... would'nt he have played this just exactly like this ?
RIP Jacques Loussier. Thank you for leaving behind the most sublime rendition of Bach.
R.I.P. . .
whenever i feel sad i just want to listen to this piece and whenever i listen to it with this trio i feel like the music heal and hug me so deeply. I really love this perform... Thank you ...
I had his album with this back in the mid 1960s. It was the Hamlet Cigar ad on TV that drew me to the music of Jacques Loussier.
Pan Jacques Loussier is PHENOMENAL COMPOSER AND PIANIST ! I LOVE THIS MUSIC SO MUCH !!!!
First saw him perform in the late 60's and have been lucky enough to have seen him and his fellow musicians at four more recitals. Just wish he/they still toured - many thanks gentlemen.
wonderful music + jazz style = great to hear
Jacques Loussier is the best. I don't know any musician who did a better job playing classical pieces in a jazz style than him.
while I sort of agree, have a listen to Ramsey Lewis Trio playing this number
Look into Ekseption / Rick van der Linden. Different style and not as deep and multifaceted but also quite competent.
Eugen Cicero.
Amazing! So beautiful and so sumptuously played by this brilliant musician.
I still sit amazed, stupefied , at Bach, the glories of sound, skill, superb achievement...
Yes, very yes
RIP Monsieur Loussier- his seemingly effortless genious touched more people that he probably knew
Thankyou Sir , for bringing such beauty and quality into the lives of people around the globe.
One of a kind indeed !
Thank you jacques fantastic recreator of Bach

It is unbeatable! Merci M. Loussier et votre amis. RIP
The man who introduced me to Bach (not literally) after hearing the Hamlet cigar adverts on the telly in the '60s. RIP Jacques
I didn't know until recently that he was the man who brought us "Hamlet - the mild cigar". The discovery was compounded by the realisation that I share the same birthday as him and a great French engineer named Andre Chapelon.
This always helped me de-stress when I was doing coursework
Just love that Jaques touch, so beautiful!
Bach was years ahead of his time and this outfit encapsulated him perfectly PGS
Thank you so much for sharing this!
simply beautiful
I imagine this piece which was used in UK years ago for a cigar advertisement was the intoduction to classical music for many people
The infamous Hamlet adverts. Though somewhat shortened
...and an introduction to jazz.
@@iancockayne2939 ...but not too OTT and still recognisable
@@georgealderson4424 ...a great interpretation, also his brilliant version of Verdi's Four Seasons
@@iancockayne2939 I will search for The Four Seasons as a change to Bach. Thank you Ian
I think Bach would have LOVED this. It would have made him smile.
just beautifull.......
The man who brought us "Hamlet - the mild cigar"
Loved him as a kid in the 70´s, saw him here in Caracas, still do - wherever you are, have fun, make fun, play Bach
happiness is a cigar called Hamlet, the mild cigar
lol brings back memories of the old adverts
This is amazing.

bellisimo
This is the best of the best
Magnifique
El mejor para esta adaptación. Ni Siloti ni nada. Loussier.
ah, that Bösendorfer sounds like a dream...
Wonderful
I ADORE this version of Bach's masterpiece
Anyone else remember seeing this on A&E, in the late 80's, when A&E actually showed Arts and Entertainment?
Soul music😔
Happiness is always a cigar to me they call Hamlet. Mild and from Benson & Hedges!

Any where I go, Jacques Loussier has been with me, as has Bach. For that matter, so has George Shearing too.
j'adore!
Great piano player ...
I love it !
This is like the most true statement ever.
Wow!

does he have a faster, less melancholic version of this?
Just imagine 2 sec, Bach, the night he lost his 7th or 8th child, playing piano half drunk have lucid and completely broke... would'nt he have played this just exactly like this ?
For myself Bach was the "pop" music composer of the era-every thing he wrote appealed to a wide audience.PGS
Unique.
JL - neben General De Gaulle mein Lieblingsfranzose.
No Comments pleaze, just listen ;)
it's very very good !!!
Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet ... the mild cigar from Benson & Hedges ...
@MrGrandMasTerMind THATS BECAUSE ITS BEING PLAYED IN A JAZZ STYLE....THIS IS JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see "air on a G string" and think something completely different.
Hi
dis is a mashup of Bach yeah?
I wish I could play like he does... but better...
Air on G string.
Carlos Fandango wheels on your Ford Anglia, anyone?
I'm totally hot for g-strings.
Haha Me too
G string lol
most of that sounded nothing like air on a g string.
Superb. Pity it's out of synch.
That would suggest to me that you just don't like jazz
You can't even spell his name correct. Silence.
correctly...
