dont know why people are constantly criticizing him for small things...the truth is only 2 % of you guys are really going to practice this (watching this tutorial)... if you actually go and try you will realize how beautifully he has explained it each and every part.... it was my dream to play this song on guitar and he made it possible thank you Assaf thanks for making my dream come true :)

because these "small things" are the basis of a correct way of playing guitar and music comprehension. So people like me struggle to understand how you might call a channel like this "educational" and a guy like him a "teacher".
When I look at videos like this I feel that not only my job as music teacher, but the meaning of music itself is deeply missunderstood.
And, honestly, if I came across a guitar teacher like this at school I would have felt teased.
By the way. This is not school, this is the world wide web, his channel is successful and apparently, he meets people need by gifting his very approximate knowldge.
      Fair enough..
PS. my advise:Tommy Emmanuel himself makes great tutorials. And.. if they're too difficult just find a real teacher. I would be happy to help as well.

27 people didn't have the patience to learn. I have watched this video completely, only once, and i've already come halfway. The timing actually ís clear, if you listen to what he plays (especially the fast parts), instead of what he says. There's a few tricks involved that i don't master well enough, but i will, most likely because of this video. Just close your eyes and listen, it will all become clear, after repeating several parts of the video a few times.
Love the way you explain these things. Also, you remind me of someone i used to know, that made things even easier (although the tables were turned, in that example xD)
Keep it up, and make me learn stuff! ;D

Since 1970 (when I first heard this song) to this day....I have thought that CLASSICAL GAS is the very best song every written in the history of the world. Mason Williams (the composer) was truly God-inspired and many people have said the same thing. It is absolutely my personal favorite and will always be. I really appreciate your playing ability as well as how carefully and methodically you explained it. Thanks you soooo much !

It is a metaphor of our life.
It begins with our child stage, it covers our growing, our emerging as adults, then frenetic work or family life, then some calming, aged life helping society or family, then finally our peace. 👍😉

    Amazing tutorial and playing!
I do wanna respectfully mention that at 18:30 , the correct chord to play is BbMaj7 add b5 /A (in layman's terms it's String 5: open, string 4: 3rd fret, string 3: 2nd fret, string 2: 3rd fret, string 1: open).
You're a great guitarist and teacher.

I know you put this up years ago, but wow, thank you for this. For taking the time to learn it, play it, and share exactly how to play it. A gorgeous song from my childhood that reminds me of sitting in the living room with my parents as they read and listened to records. When I would hear the start of Classical Gas, I would join them in there just to hear it.
I'm beginning to learn fingerstyle, and am most of the way through learning Dust in the Wind, with the ultimate goal to get to Classical Gas level fingerstyle ability. Again, thank you.

  • @LickNRiff

It's okay. Let me try to explain: C is x32010, while C9 is x32030. The C note on the B string moves two frets up to the D note. That's the C9 I'm using here. The C9s you find are, I assume, shapes of the jazz chord C9, which has both the seventh note and the ninth, making it something like x3233x. So basically, you are correct in noticing my pinky pressing the B string on the 3rd fret, while the C chord is still on, turning it into a C9 chord. Hope that explains it.

I figured I'd see if being as new as I am could play something that to me is pretty advanced. And I have probably watched the first little part 15 times already and finally got it down, You explain it so simply. I'm going to make my Grandpaw proud with this song And that, is thanks to you. Thank you very much my friend. This was easy for me to follow and is sounding great. After I've played this version 1000 times, I'll try the more advanced version. Keep up the great work! I'm an instructor myself, and am well aware of how the instructor needs to be in sync with the student, and I think your teaching method is fantastic. People who complain about the tabs probably have never tried to tab a complex piece like this, and people who can't follow the lesson probably need to try something easier. Being able to go through this piece in 35 minutes is incredible.

I would like to say that you are very good as a teacher. I can fallow your lessons the way you present the material. The first piece that I learned was Greensleeves. I am now working on Classical Gas. I was playing the palindrome in the first line as B,E,D,E,B but it didn't sound like when you played it. I found that although the tab was showing the 2,0,2 on the D string you played it on the G string where it became B,A,G,A,B and when you got to the 2,0,2 you said you were on the G string so it became clear to me. I just wanted to let you know, Thank you for the great lessons.

I would love it if you could spell out your name, or give a slow pronunciation so my under-cultured brain can refer to you as something other than that licknriff guy that was probably born in a country that was part of the ussr. Again, thank you for your lessons, you are an excellent guitar teacher that throws in just enough music theory that it is informative but not intimidating. aslo, what is the piece of music that makes your arm band tattoo?

This is the best version of classical gas that I've found (that's well explained), and I'm wondering if you can put up a video for Andalusian Nights by Govi? If so, thank you a million times! I can't find the tabs for Andalusian Nights anywhere...

I never imagined I would ever play this show stopping tune. Thanks so much for putting this up. but is there an error in the tab? At 5:54 where you mention the palindrome. That little triplet is played on the G string, but you've got it written on the D string. You even say G string. Not how the tab is written. Had me confused a bit.

Fan-tucking-tastic! Just to clarify: in the tutorial section you said to play the opening section 4 times. But in the performance at the beginning of the vid, you only played it 3 times.
And 3 times sounds good to me.

very good explanation of a very difficult piece. Not sure how you keep your explanations of string and frets clear as you move back and fourth between bars. That would drive me to distraction, but you seem to pick it up from anywhere. Fantastic concentration.
