    Not even possible for a real bath remodel we have been doing bath remodels for 30 years and we do it the old fashion way and depending on how bad and how big and what they want done will determine how long it will take.
    These companies who cover up the tub or shower with new tubs ,showers usually cover up rot and mold and bacteria . And yes they can recover a tub add walls and plumb the new or covered shower or tub in a day but they are covering up a lot of problems you will have to deal with sooner than later.

    We had our bathroom partially redone three years ago. New tub, shower valves, installed plumbing and wiring for a washer and dryer and tiled around the tub. It took two weeks. I was a bit of a handyman so they shared information with me about how, why and what they were doing. It was awesome to see what they had to do and to see how they did it. They were an excellent crew!
    The first person they brought in was a carpenter, a plumber, an electrician, a dry waller and finally a tiler. Excellent work!

    I’m pretty convinced that it’s more about how much revenue is being generated by the contractor and how they are actually doing the work. Like he said the one day guys are just putting in a skin over the shower

    40Yr plumber, im not buyin any of this 1 day bath remodel, i do this everyday in a rust belt city, ive had to fix some 1 day bath remodels, we have to get a framing & plumbing permit, that combined with inspection,always 2-3 days just to get inspected

    An up fit is ten days or less. Not a full remodel.
    It takes at least a week to pull a permit in a decent size city. A three piece bath full is 3weeks for simple scope, no delays, or change orders.

    • @andrewschafer8986
      @andrewschafer8986 21 день назад

      But to be fair! Handman and fiberglass surround go hand in hand.

    You don't need electrician to replace a fixture only if you're rewiring or adding/ subtracting components. Plumber only if you're altering things. So you really don't need those licenses if you're doing a refresh. Most purple only need refreshing not full to the studs remodeling. If you're wanting to alter anything absolutely make sure they have licenses plus i never trust promises of really quick work because speed usually needs lack of quality.

    Those companies you see advertising 1 day remodels are actually finance companies. They sell financing and move product. Then they send out the referral to an installer in their Rolodex. The people on the commercial don’t care about the remodel part. Selling financing and product is all they care about. There are lots of fly by night sales models that operate this way.

    Hey Rodger, I’ve really been enjoying your videos but I have a question. I watched a video of your about starting a plumbing business and you mentioned it being a good idea to have something you specialize in. I have an interest in starting a plunking company in the future, but I’m pretty new to it all. I am somewhat familiar with installing septics though. Would that be a good thing to build off of, or do most plumbing companies do that already? Because along with other plumbing duties, I was thinking I could install septic systems as well; residential and commercial. What do you think?

    Yes. It is illegal to do plumbing in texas without being licensed by the state. A homeowner may work on his home, and I believe, may get the necessary permit as such. But you cannot conduct the business of plumbing without a license. As it is in most states.
    These laws are in place to protect homeowners and to hold contractors accountable.

      No, government decided to interject itself into the deal between seller and buyer and decided that it should sell you a license for certain things. License is not an insurance - you can look up endless amounts of dangerous screwups by plumbers/electricians etc, there’s plenty of videos online. Insurance is necessary, licenses and permits are government scam - with all the money they extract from people they could’ve hired many many more inspectors and desk workers, issue permits within 10 min, provide on call inspections etc, but they don’t and they won’t - just pay up more and more, and at the end of the day they’ll close their eyes on all contractor’s mistakes and not a single inspector will ever be accountable for any of his bad or good decisions.

  • @mattb9664
    @mattb9664 22 дня назад

    No way - there are like 2-4 mini projects and corrections to be done in any bathroom remodel, not even including relocating any of the plumbing. My little 38"x70" half bath took me about 6-8 weeks, and I had to manually look for the perfect vanity on Home Depot's site to avoid having to pay for a custom made vanity and counter/sink.
    Those bathfitter commercials are intended for seniors with a little extra money looking for a quick refresh and don't really know anything about remodels at all.

    This is not a complete bathroom remodel. They are selling either overlays to the existing tub and associated tile or those acrylic one-piece jobs. They use existing plumbing to do their hookups. No moving of plumbing fixtures, no electrical, no vanity, no toilet, no flooring. I actually had a tub overlay done by them way back when I didn't know anything about this stuff. It looked pretty good, and it lasted about 10 years. Not bad for the price, especially for the budget conscious. Now that I know more and have more money, time for a real bathroom remodel.

      That's what it was where I was at. My ex-wife wanted a new shower in place of a standard 5-ft builder grade tub. The 1-day replacement which would have been a plastics around that looked like marble was going to be almost $8,000. For something that I could buy online for about a grand from Lowe's and put in myself. But she really wanted actual tile. I called the guy I know who does remodeling and specializes in bathrooms and for $7,000 he gave her a brand new tile shower with actual marble. A very nice faucet Set,a full glass door and actual properly done Drain pan, the works. For $1,000 less than they wanted for plastic

    You keep saying illegal, and it’s not technically illegal to do most anything in house. It may be against code, but not illegal. You won’t go to prison if you screw up your house.

    • @Species-lj8wh
      @Species-lj8wh 23 дня назад +2

      And in some states. Like mine the homeowner can do anything you can as long as its up to code. You still need an inspection for electrical, plumbing or structural work.

    • @Patatoes3
      @Patatoes3 23 дня назад +1

      if an outside contractor in my state comes in anything after the p-trap, before the shut offs at the fixture, and the fixture body itself is against code. inspection is only needed when the tub is being replaced in my area however, you can replace the valve no problem. Technically me as a homeowner is supposed to get a permit to replace drywall but who is going to do that.

    • @anonymous..-
      @anonymous..- 22 дня назад +1

      Exactly. In Texas a city could issue a stop-work I guess if it’s not your homestead and force you to submit plans and use licensed tradesmen where required. In Texas you can do anything to your own homestead, even replace gas lines and electrical panels etc… It still has to pass inspection if you pull permits.

    • @samueltidwell3377
      @samueltidwell3377 22 дня назад

      Are you really that stupid? You think only something punishable as a crime falls under the definition of illegal? If it falls outside the rules of the game, it may be refered to as illegal. Thus, a code violation is an illegal act against that code. Counties with building codes, have punitive remedies they may pursue to enforce those codes. Like having the state revoke a plumbers license. After which, he can no longer obtain permits to perform anything but the most basic plumbing. If he is caught plumbing without necessary permits, he will be fined. So yes, working without necessary permits is illegal and building departments take it seriously. The need to be licensed is codified in state law.

      In the state of South Carolina, you cannot relocate a shower drain or replace a shower valve without getting a plumbing permit , and inspection. These companies are avoiding the permit inspection and licensing process in order to complete the job in a single day. That’s their business model. And yes this is illegal.

    • @brycebrewer8322

    The only guys who do this one day bath or the guys who use cheap glue on surrounds and they don't use drywall they use plywood as the backer. There's no taping in spackling nothing like that.
    I got about 28 years experience I do a lot of bathrooms. Bathrooms take up most of my work. He sure as hell don't need to hire a licensed plumber to do the work. I do my own plumbing electrical flooring tile drywall exhaust fans everything myself. When you didn't feel long enough you learn basically everything there is to learn. And virtually nobody gets permits. For most part it's nothing but a money racket. At the inspectors that come out don't even know as much as the contractors. Biggest reason for a permit is so they can come in reassess your home's value and raise your taxes. And if you know what you're doing there's no need for inspection. It's not rocket science. I'm not saying there's not schmucks out there that have no idea what they're doing. A quality craftsmanship is hard to find these days. But I'm definitely one of them that know what they're doing. I'm usually booked out about anywhere from 8 months to a year. Never had any complaints never had any issues or anything with any of the work I've ever done. If you're somebody that needs to call in a different guy to do your plumbing a different guided to your electrical a different guy to do your exhaust fan a different gutted to your painting and drywall you should get a new line of work

    Plumbing is by far the easiest sport in the trades…
    Codes; easily learned
    Materials; available instantly anywhere
    Overhead; cheap
    Tools; average to low price( don’t come at me saying you spent 3k on a crimping tool that’s cheap considering the money it brings in)
    Intelligence; grammar school education or dropout is plenty
    Business Intelligence; no selling skills needed, marketing skills are
    Appearance; no teeth and smokers preferred
    License; priceless
    My point; Either it leaks or it doesn’t and if you can’t figure out 1/4” per foot sell car warranties plumbing is the easiest thing I have learned in my life, what to eat for lunch is the hardest part of any plumbers day 🤣
