I was in boot camp at Paris Island in the 80’s. One of the other recruits had worked as a plumber in the union. He’d talk about how the squad bays were plumbed and look right at you and say “I can tell ya how to plumb it”
Kid was probably 19-20 but I believed him.

Hi Roger, I’m thinking of making a transition into plumbing sometime this year. I heard that union plumbers make a lot more money than nonunion ones but the only problem is that all of the companies in my area are nonunion. Is it worthwhile to join up with them just to get my foot in the door experience-wise or should I wait until my farther-away union begins accepting apprentices next year?

I know I'm not Roger but I am a plumber and I say you should give nonunion jobs a shot. You may really enjoy it.
