The Terminator board has to be the coolest
Facts
💯
seriously. what a great concept
I want a bitch board or shirt that stick man shooting the girl image is so dope might make my own 👀
Fuck ya. For sure yo
Disney is insane with cease and desists. They once threatened to sue three daycare centers in Florida for having Disney murals on their walls. Hanna-Barbera then trolled Disney by sending artists to paint over them with Scooby Doo and other Hanna-Barbera characters.
😂😂😂
Idk how that guy "beeple" got away with it.
That’s honestly amazing on Hanna-Barbera’s part.
I think there is a similar story with a grave marker also
Sadly most kids have no idea who the Hanna-Barbera characters are.
That Scientology one is funny. Apparently all they would have to do is put Xenu in the name. As Scientologists aren’t allowed to admit that Xenu exists to outsiders, they thereby can’t reference the name in lawsuits.
That terminator board gave me an idea. They could come up with 10 mystery boards but hide the graphics under a solid color.
That'd be dope!
That Terminator board was actually quite a great idea but the Alien vs Predator board makes me laugh my ass off every time I see it... pure class! 😂
time to grind your board!
“E.T. phone child protective services”
Someone should do a modern Alien vs predator board with Epstein or Weinstein as the predator
@@PunchingCacti you’re so boring.
The one with Koston is even better
It amazes me how Hook-ups seems practically immune to this.
It was always properly-licensed art.
I had to google the deck I was thinking of, which I thought was made by Hook Ups, but it was actually Randy Colvin “the censorship deck”. I was 100% sure this was going to be on the list.
How does it amaze you? A majority of the characters Jeremy drew. it's his art.
Why? A lot of these are much more out of pocket and wild than some half naked women, or tread on copyright really hard. Also even though some of the Hookups Graphics are traced artwork, some are just generic anime art. Not sure how it's surprising
@@TheRealCaptainFreedom Parody is covered under fair use my dude. Nothing illegal about anything these brands did.
How anyone thought ripping off Hell’s Angels was a good idea is beyond me.
Did you see the guy trying to Kick Start his bike wile in gear? 🤣🤣
Why does everyone else have to obey their little club rules
@@ManeInDaHatbecause an intimidating image is the single most important thing to outlaw bikers. Being a criminal is a requirement for membership in the Hells Angels, and they prefer to enforce their "trademarks" with violence.
Also since they are an international gang it's best not to appear as a member or supporter to any of their rivals either. Biker gangs are just as territorial as bloods and crips.
@@doomngloom9088obese larper. Be quiet butt lover
@@ManeInDaHat Because they're not a "little club," they're a criminal gang. They regularly engage in theft, drug dealing, trafficking, prostitution rings, and are not above violence, as they have a history of gang wars with other biker groups
When the Power Puff Girls was new and just taking off, I can't remember which company put them on a deck, but Craig McCracken loved it so much, he did NOT tell anyone at corporate or try to get a cease and desist going. He loved that it would get his creation more publicity! Fun To Know Fact from a fly on the wall who was there at the time. :)
I don't know if a team of you guys did the research for this video but you guys absolutely killed it
Thanks Troy!! Glad you enjoyed the vid! 🙏 👊
@@ShredzShop you're reply just made me a life long fan!
2:52 We need more boards like this..... It's so fudging creative
frrrrr tho
Deathwish made a snickers deck in similar style
I just love the irreverence of skateboard culture, mixed with the insane creativity and athleticism. These graphics are funny AF! Makes me wish I kept all my old boards.
>Insane creativity
....well
Nice to see that they skateboard companies had the balls to poke fun at the establishment.
so much saltyness.
@@nemopouncey3827 poking fun at something is being salty bro
Imagine a collection with most of these boards, has to be worth some big money!
not really. you can still go buy nearly all of them right now.
If someone had that camel board with same original camel pack and matchstick. That would be hella big money!
@@derpderpin1568 where??
I had an original Natas deck when it came out. Shortly after that I had a Vallely barnyard. Not sure what they'd go for, but judging by reissues I'm guessing maybe quite a nifty bundle. Not that I'd let them go if I still had them all these years later. I did receive a similar Natas deck a few years back in trade for some cello repair I did. Gave it to my friend Josh (Hamell SK8 here on the RUclips. If we all harass him right maybe he'll video tour his skate museum for us to drool over.
Meh
I had the Natas board and the Mike Carrol nevermind board..gutted that I totally shredded them to bits back in the day..but that's skateboarding..long may skateboarding rip off the big companies,it keeps it grounded as a sub culture.
Hopefully they'll re-issue some of them 🙏
@@ShredzShop Not gonna happen in this "progressive" society of cancel culture and the easily offended
I don't even skate anymore. I still have some of my old Foundation / Hook-Up's & Toy Machine stuff but decks suck nowadays. I walked into a skate shop a week or so ago to check out some decks and they were all weak sauce. Late 90's - early 00's was king of skateboards. Gone are the times of a shocking or raunchy deck. They are all PG fluffy generic bullsh*t. You have to search the secondary collector's market
it was a crazy one for Natas. A lot of skate shops wouldn't carry any of his bords after the Satan one. and as a skater, he was public enemy number one with parents since his name backwards was Satan. Fukkin TV news shows about it, all kinds of stuff. If it wasn't for that board, he would of had way less heat.... but it made him a legend amongst us kids.
there's always pretentious people like you jabbering on about "subculture"
5:39 This is a true story:
I used to live in SF in the 80’s and 90’s. I was skating with my friends when we all decided to enter FTC skateshop. Mike Carrol shows up. Mike starts piecing together a new deck, and my friends take notice. Mike takes the deck he was riding and throws in into this tiny green trash bin that used to hang on the wall.
My friend Kier, grabs the board and says, “Nice a free deck, I needed one.” Mike snatches it out of Kier’s hands and says, “If you want one of my products kid, pay for it!” Mike then proceeds to toss the barely used deck in a larger trash can behind the counter.
Back then my friend Keir took zero crap from people, so he proceeds to utter defamatory slurs that I don’t think even exist. I look at Dan (the clerk who may still actually work there today), and he slightly shrugged, as if to say, “Dude, it’s Mike Carrol…what do you want me to do?”
On the way out of the store I told Mike I’d tell everyone what a jackwagon he was. He didn’t care. Not even 20 feet away from the store we see skaters walking up the street to go into FTC, so we told them the whole story. They didn’t like it. So, as soon as they walk in, we can hear the strangers giving Mike a real hard time…my friends and I laughed.
What’s the moral of the story? My story corroborates the fact that yes, Mike is a baby.
The dgk “sue me” starter pack was hilarious 😂😂
Who remembers the early shortys decks with the cereal box characters, lucky charms , the trick rabbit
The funny thing about the Jason Dill Winnie the Pooh graphic is they could legally print them today.
The only Pooh graphic you can't use is pooh wearing a shirt. That illustration is still under copyright.
Awesome video, I had several of these boards growing up. The Jason lee burger board was also one of the first “Ever-slick” boards with the plastic coating on the bottom. Serious memories! Thanks!
Right on! Crazy to see people selling old skated ones for big bucks
That terminator concept is literally the illest shit ever. Also would love the alien vs predator board too 😅
thank you so much for the great effort to do the research to do these amazing videos and provide such good content. you're one of the best skateboarding content providers. respect! 🙏
the dukes of hazzard one is hilarious
It's the best. They created it. Who cares. Get over yourselves.
I'm Korean, and absolutely love that deck. That design speaks to me. Lol
An Asian skater: let’s make this Dukes parody board…
Society: How dare you be racist… against yourself 🥴
I had a few of these and remember several. I'm 50 now and spent my youth and young manhood on a skateboard starting in 1985.
We had a red plastic skateboard in our house. I started on that one and went lawn mowing to purchase a skateboard called the executioner. It was the coolest one I knew of. I wasn't aware of brands or pros until my cousin brought me a thrasher. I think that was sometime in '86. I'd never seen anything like that. I knew I was in the right place after that. Skateboards and their interesting graphics have been a major part of my life. In case you were wondering.
The Mr. Butts board is also copyright infringement. It's a character from the comic Doonesbury. He's a mascot character Mike declined to create for the tobacco industry. He was intended to teach teens how "cool" it was to smoke, and how it "relieved stress". Mike would occasionally have nightmares about Mr. Butts.
That beauty and the beast board was the first board I ever had! I bought it used for $15 when I was 12, my mom was pissed LoL!
I am a small content creator and I must say this is one of my fav Chanel’s of all time
Great video!!! I saw a lot of the boards in the video firsthand over the years. What amazes me is what certain companies can, and can't get away with. Part of life is being able to laugh at ourselves. Oh well. Big business is big business.
It’s funny now similar boards come out as ‘official collabs’
Wally Wood drew the original Disney Land Memorial Orgy. This video suggests it's Paul Krassner, but Paul only hired Wally Wood to Draw it. I just need to add this here because the story of Wally Wood is insane, the guys a beast and he deserves credit.
Dropped into to the comments just to makevsure Wally Wood got his credit 👏
I'm a fan of controversial collectibles (my favorite being my uncut Body Count CD). The Natas and Charlie Manson graphics would top my list to try and track down.
I've collected controversial skateboard graphics for almost 15 years now. 🙏I've snagged a lot of these as re-issues, and some never drops.
@@ShredzShop I must now track down and find one of those Hells Angels boards. SURELY at least one survived.
Body Count rocked
My brother in law has a Manson deck. They were being sold on the first Warped Tour in 1995.
Sorry different board. Im talking about thw generic Manson b and w photocopy graphic.
Something I always wanted was the promotional zippo lighter that came with Burzum’s Aske e.p.
It had a photo of one of the Norwegian churches burning to the ground. Last time I check, they are going for 700-900 euro :(
(For those who don’t know, it was highly suspected, and most likely true, that the sole creator of the black metal group Burzum, Varg Vikernes, was responsible for at least the first church burning that started a trend in the the area where many black metal bands were from. Soon after the first incident, Varg just so happened to be around to take the photo, which he used for the e.p. cover. Aske means ashes in Norwegian.)
Deck graphics were so awesome back when Pluto was a planet! They just don't seem as detailed or thought out nowadays as they were back then. I would kill my mother's first born son to have a copy of my first deck I ever got when I was a kid. It was the Flip Rune Glifberg Thor deck from around 1996ish. The graphic was of Thor with his hammer flying with a duck, lol. It looked better than it sounds, lol.
Radical video! The Terminator board blew.my.mind!
The Boom Art boards are probably my favorite though! So sick!!
There's a few board series I plan on purchasing, but the Boom Art board, Disney collection left a lasting impression on my brain.
Everything included in this video is bad ass & it's super neat to learn about the stories behind artists & as well learn the artists behind the boards & brands.
Learned a grip!
Thank you for the book recommendations! Definitely going to pick em up!
If I was a company I would be stoked for the free advertising.
agreed 🤝
What's the point of copyright
this is one of the reasons skateboarding culture rules!!
Great video, thanks for it mate!
very cool Levi! thank you 4 the vid
Alot of research had to go into this. Thank you
They're lots of work! Im glad people enjoy them!! Thanks for watching! 🙏
You missed the Josh Kalis Alien board when he switched over to DGK and AWS put the kibosh on that, only to years later release it as a collab.
Sick video!! Thanks
The consolidated "Im soo Gay" unicorn board was my favorite. Really wish I wouldnt have skated mine
Crazy to think I had at least half of those boards listed.
sure you did bud
dude's weird and awkward but he represents the skate community very well. I wish all the great things for this channel
LOVE these informative videos!!!
The G**Ks of Hazard one had me laughing :D
Deathbox had the Alex Moul bazooka joe graphic and Mars Bar font for Paul 'Rocker' Robson. Dunno if they were legally shut down but I couldn't find the Moul everslick at the time, nice looking board.
Never seen either of those. Deathbox boards are prettttty hard to track down though haha. Maybe someone on that old skull skate forum would have them.
My gfs mum knows someone who went to school with Alex moul 🤙
This video was a kickass walk down memory lane!! I totally don't remember that Terminator board, but holy shit I would've definitely got one & immediately put it on my wall. Anyway, keep up the great work fellas. Cheers.
🔥 🙏
DGK's Cease and Desist line...... LEGENDARY !!!! 😂🤣🤣
So good! Haha
Wow, this is real interesting! I had no idea there was so much middle finger to 'The Man', in skateboarding! This is so cool! That Terminator board though! Fricken SWEET!
Glad you enjoyed the vid!!
I had an original Grosso Wonderland board as a teen back in the early 1990’s. I gave it away to a younger kid in the neighborhood when I got out of skating. 😭
Thats rad! You passed it on to the next generation and kept the stoke alive!! 🙏
I remember the Jason Lee doodoo board. I wish I was old enough to understand the history and controversy was behind all these boards at the time
Alien Vs. Predator made me laugh so hard I had to pause the video. Also, honorable mention to "Gooks of Hazard" and the "General Li" lol, but I've known about that one for years. Genius.
Thanks Levi! Seeing those old decks brought back some great memories.
Glad you enjoyed! 🙏 👊
Anyone know if primitive McClure temple deck received a cease and desist from CBC? The board was available for a very short time.
I need 10 things you didn’t know about FA
Its on our list! 🙏 👊
I own 30 to 35 fa boards thers one thing u didnt know
Fu?k what a great share! Brings back a lot of memories. You have really good ideas for your channel
The cammel cigarette one is godly.
I had the a clockwork orange hook ups deck.. It was dope..
You missed all the iconic H-street boards. The chilly Willy deck,Dannyway Volkswagen deck all the Sal Barbier LA kings, lakers, padres raiders and I think Life Skate boards had some.
2:55 that's one of the coolest things I've ever seen on a board.
The evil Whinnie The Pooh was funny. Terminator one is brilliant
Man, I still remember my local skate shop in the early 90s with both 101's Natas and Gabriel Rodriguez's Jesus boards next to each other to pull that juxtaposition. Too bad I was a kid w/ no money.
haha so wild!!
That terminator board looks so damn cool
Awesome video. 😍
Very informative
The 101 Natas Challenger deck is controversial, but lowkey since it looks like Lichtenstein 😏 plus that image isn't as forthright in many ppl's minds these days as other recent tragedies are.
@theJACK!!! Oops... 🤣
I love how cheech and chong werent like the uptight companies and were like hey this is kind of cool wanna make it official
Thought it was coming out today 😕 need more shreddz videos much love to Canada from Arizona!❤️🛹
Ironically it got banned
Yea, we had a hiccup with RUclips... they said it will be fixed within 24/48hrs 😐 I'm bummed cause Im hyped for people to watch this one! 🙏 🙏
Nice! I have a couple of those board's and Cliver's book. The 80's and 90's were awesome.
Great video I remember a lot of those boards I think the rodney colvin beer bottle got pulled I had that board and the danny way lawn mower man
Thx. Great vid. Shit like this is what makes skating so core. Great job skate companies. Keep up the great work
The Disney orgy board series is hilarious. I wish I could get the whole collection. Also what about the cereal mascot boards that Shorty's released? I take it they never got in trouble over those. I actually had the Tony the tiger. Most controversial of all the boards you showed would have to be the Natas.
So the natas board is what caused the biggest uproar in your memory?
@@Theeosees uh sure
@@j.hostyle6872 well you said it was the most controversial, how do you mean?
Be great wall piece, all put to gethere lol.
Drawn by wally Wood not paul krassner
Awesome Video
🙏🙏🙏
this whole vid is awesome.
This a an awesome part of skateboard history.
Winnie the Pooh is now in the public domain so you can make modified Winnie the Pooh art just no red shirt and quotes.
Haha that’s rad, maybe we should do a Winnie the Pooh shred graphic? 🧐
Dude! That Terminator one tho! That's badass
So good!
that beauty and the beast one must be wild
Mr butt's is great. I have a vintage shirt with him saying "you'll live forever kids"
Interesting video. I thought that terminator board idea was pretty awesome. Not sure why the idea never caught on. Of course I mean it could be done with original graphics. I mean just like a basic face with a skull underneath. quite a few possibilities with that one
A few people have done scratch away graphics over the years, they always come out looking cool!
In all honesty, the Jeremy Klein and Rocco 3 decks are my grails to hunt for! I know Almost did a spoof with using Yogi bear but, come on, OG World Industries? Let's fucking gooooo!
My first pro deck was a Jim Theibaud Joker Cease and Desist should have hung on to that one
Was expecting to see the Edward Scissor hand board that Corey Duffel did (if my memory is right). All were hand signed too. Had one and my young dumb self traded it for a brand new element deck. At least I didn't skate it like one of my buddies did with his.
Gonna be lots of Antihero. 😂 can’t wait.
There was one or two
I would suspect World Industries or Hook Ups or maybe Baker? When it comes to controversial graphics... Anti-Hero is just OG, not very controversial... anyways I guess I'll see once I press play on the video.
How disappointing is that? I was thinking the same thing.... Damn u Eli!!!
Hahahah thought the same iam 34 when I was boarding I saw some shat ... panda poo 4 l
Blind's little mascot was my favorite. I had a tech deck dude of him :)
The Dianetics parody is absolutely hilarious. Now that Jason Lee has left the cult, maybe he'll use it...?
I'm shocked Creature never got into hot water with companies. Also I find it funny now how DGK got C&Ds before yet now they have whole lines based off of corp logos. I guess the big companies and certain board brands figure it would be better to work together. The baddest one to me was the Beauty and The Beast one. It kinda looks like they're porkin. The ones that should be on the shelves and kind of are is the DGK line.
i remember seeing most of these in ccs and i always figured when they copied off other skate companies it was like a tribute or like a friendly battle but i guess not
Funny that Dr. Sus was canceled in the end by the left😂
My very first deck was the Flip Cheech and Chong board featured on here. It was a hand me down from my step brother when I was maybe 12 and I still remember the set up. Venture superlight lows, Spitfire Wheels, Lucky Bearings, and Black Magic Grip tape. I'm 37 and still Skate when I can and though I now ride an Alien Workshop Deck, my trucks, wheels, and bearings are still the same as my very first set up.
🔥🔥epic!!
Gotta be honest most things i heard about rocco is pretty negative, but his fuck it sort of attitude when it came to approving graphics really allowed some of the funniest graphics to be produced.
I really want to get that Agent Provocateurs book but it’s been out of print for a long time and people are currently selling it on Amazon bud eBay for 200-300 🤯
That's crazy. I've got mine for 24,95.
Rip off Disney: get a CaD letter in the mail.
Rip off Burger King: get a CaD letter in the mail.
Rip off Hell's Angels: get a literal group of Hell's Angels at your door step.
😝 Shows who's not messing around!
Great 👍 rundown. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Gonz banana 🍌 peel board 🛹
🙌🤝
Apparently everything related to skateboarding is a crime.
Not so much these days
I had the Rocco and Grosso. My friend had all those Jason Lee boards (except the Powell parodies). Still have a Blind Video Days VHS which was our favorite. Other friends had the Natas and so on, They all pretty much ended up broken from heavy use or rage focus. I remember burning the Rocco in my fireplace and seeing many of these in the skate shops. Always wanted to buy the Randy Colvin naked woman pleasuring herself deck. IF only I had more money back then, I could have bought them all.
Damn! Video Days VHS is a flex 💪 They re-issue some of these boards every now and then if you keep your eyes peeled 👀
Cool video. One thing you didn't mention is that Mr.Butts was a Doonesbury character from the 80's, a Joe Camel Parody. It also looks like they took the graphic directly from one of the sunday strips.
Cool vid 🤙🏽
Glad you enjoyed!
Just want to point out that Bitch skateboards was founded by Jeff Tremaines brother David Tremaine, not Steve Rocco.
But I'm sure he had a helping hand in it.
I thought it was Sal Rocco
@@nicolasbaker9601 actually i think that's correct. I knew it was one of brothers
Can you parody logos to an extent? I wonder how that goes down in court but I suppose they are often recognizable enough that they have to drop those graphics
Also I totally had a North Park Blind board
I’m an attorney but I don’t do patent/copyright. I do know that parody is typically a strong defense. I imagine if the skate companies had gone to court, they would have won. But who can afford so much litigation? The companies threatening, that’s who.
IANAL. Parody is fair use, but satire is not. Parody is when you exaggerate something for humor, while satire is when you criticize or ridicule something / someone for reasons. (Weird Al's Eat it is parody, if someone made a "beat it" version about MJ touching kids, that would be satire) Either way, the skateboard company would have to argue in court if these were satire or parody, which is more costly than just pulling the product. The skateboard companies probably expected to pull the skateboard anyways, so it is just a cost of doing business for them.
I honestly cant believe they thought any of these would fly.
That Alien vs Predator board is incredible holy shit 😂
How is it illegal to make something like that and give it away to one person? I can understand if they were selling it for profit.
It's not illegal to do a "one off" to give or CUSTOMIZE on a board already owned by someone ( you can do what you want to things you own) but these were mass produced even if a limited run and that IS violating copyright as the company is making money from another company artwork and the consumer is buying the BOARD CAUSE of that artwork.
