Yeah I agree with the ramps. I had that exact X-Factor ramp and the rubber feet on it was sticky af on the hot asphalt so it never really slipped. I would get massive ollies if you timed them right, since they're pretty short it takes a little while to get used to
Even when you do that they tiny plastic lip on the front of the ramps is bound to bend up after some use and you'll end up clipping on it just trying to launch
They were great for a while until the lip on the bottom of the ramp got flipped up over time from hitting it so many times and it essentially turned into a skate stopper😂

Have to disagree about the Powell one. While the board itself may have been fairly bad, it was likely the start point of what became the flight deck. Which in my opinion makes it quite important.
Powell already had fibreglass reinforced deck's long before the bonite stuff. They stopped making them as the seven ply was a cheaper alternative. Santa Cruz did a black top series for a while but they didn't work too well. I suspect that now that the sport has gone big time again manufacturers can start messing around with materials again. Aluminum does amazing on a mountain bike(or any bicyle for that matter) , despite frame torsion when taking a drop of some kind , due to the aluminum frame being tubes connected in comparison to a nearly flat board with very little structural integrity. Aluminum does worse under stress when made to be flat considering the way skateboards are manufactured.
I actually can speak on this, my dad's company created, (I can't remember off hand since I was pretty young) either the original Sky Hooks, or he took the idea and changed them a bit. i feel like tail devils would be kinda sick if they weren't so bulky. like i'm thinking a little hole in the board for refillable flint would work, but idk i'm drunk
When I was a kid, I wanted to get a piece of plexiglass and shape it into a popsicle shape deck so I could see the ground under me while skating but didn't think that clear grip tape was available.
I never owned any of these myself, but tail devils, rock deflectors, aluminum decks and those spring trucks all made it to my local parks at least once.
Dude in my neighborhood back in the day had tail devils on both ends of his board and did all kind of tricks, another guy I knew that had multiple boards and nearly blew himself up when he decided to skate to the gas Station to fill up a Jerry can and forgot he was on the board with a tail devil xD
Frankie Hill was sponsored by Tail Devils. Can't blame him, it's money. The industry really screwed him over, anyway. He was the greatest, but everybody shunned him, made up some rumor that he sued Powell for getting injured while filming, destroying his knee on a nose bonk. There's a great documentary about him and his career. Tragic. Yeah, Frankie Hill never should have had to ride for Tail Devils. Edit: accidental nose bonk
@@jayadams2801 Well, I'll be. I guess you'd have to be fried to jump on that half-baked idea. Only joking. Oh, yeah, I forgot it was an accidental nose bonk.
@@jayadams2801 I know you meant friends, I just thought the typo was kinda funny. I didn't know that about Tail Devils. They were pretty gimmicky, no doubt intended for kids. Not that it's a bad product, it's just kind of a bummer what happened to his career, because he was really at the forefront of everything that was happening from the late 80's through the early 90's. If Powell would have seriously invested in getting his knee fixed, maybe they would have stayed more relevant with having another heavy hitter on their team besides Cab. Hill stayed loyal to Powell probably to his own detriment.
I swear to god one of the gnarliest slams I ever had was with that factor X plastic skate ramp over a mailbox. The little grips on the bottom of the ramp wore out so the ramp slid forward and my feet caught on the mail slot, my body stretched up with my feet caught and I slammed shoulder first into the pavement. Good thing we were taping. The video still makes it’s rounds now and again with my friends group because it was so rad
2:50 ... "rendered your board useless, you couldn't do any tricks you couldn't pop at all" literally WHILE showing footage of a guy hitting a handrail and doing a treflip with them on...
We LOVED devil tails as kids Used to spend so much of our extra allowance on them. But it is true, it does take extra effort to get a pop for tricks and pending how many you had on, the weight did make a noticeable change. As we got older and they became harder to find, we just realized they were extra as hell And we were getting higher ollies and kick flips cause the long period of time having those on our decks made us stronger and popping and ollie. We cant lie though, the effect itself was really cool.
First off Grind kings were way ahead of the times, I'd love to have the Grind King and Venture trucks I had in middle school. Also....Anybody remember Lib Technology slick boards with grooves in the bottom and had fiberglass or something every other layer so it was like impossible to focus your deck....but the pop would be long gone after a few months.
Lib tech sucks ...revolution rev decks were the best ....they were 100% carbon fiber incased in a hard plastic but not too much carbon fiber so it's still a skateboard....they were awsome just so dam expensive ...too bad they went under ...
@@russelljenkins6929 I'm sure they probably did suck...I was just curious if I was the only one who remembered them back in the "good ole days" of getting a new CCS mag that was about as fat as a chapter book and had decks and shoes from companies we couldn't find at a local skate shop on the east coast. But From my knowledge of Lib Tech they were like a snowboard company and then in like the mid 90's made a few decks. Seeing as how I was between the age of like 8-12 at the time I saw one in CCS and it had alternating layers of wood and fiberglass or possibly carbon fiber. (I have seen the new carbon fiber decks you're referring to though, but just like the libtech board I had...it lasted forever...like so long that we couldn't focus it if we tried. So as far as durability it was great, but it lost its pop in a month or two.
@@illmuskyhunter3313 I'll agree that shit did have pop, but after using it for like 8 months as a kid....I was dying to find a fat kid or someone who could break it in half for me so I would have a good excuse for my mom on why I needed a ride to the skate shop to get a new deck ( closest skate shop was 40ish miles from our house, so it was either snag a ride once or twice a year there. Or wait for the next CCS mag to find some stuff on sale haha)
Was about to comment something about how tail devils were sick as fuck, but seems like half the comments beat me to it. Definitely a fluke to include it on this list...
Wheelie Ball was around 1975 but cameras hadn't been invented yet, so little evidence exists. It was a steel ball in a cup that bolted to the tail and "supposedly" allowed "wheelies" though my experience was you just ground to a halt or became a meat crayon.

This video is so funny. Your jargon and methods of communicating your opinions are fucking hilarious. I have literally watched it for an hour straight rewinding and laughing.
I thought for sure you'd have Tracker sixtracks in this list. They were awesome, but had a tendency to break at the hanger way faster than any other truck. I used to skate back in the mid 80's, and the way we avoided, (for the most part), fart rocks was with softer wheels. My friends were rockin' the old Powell 85's and they were soft enough to compress, and allow the rocks to be rolled over. Not all the time, mind you, but way easier than the 97's lol.
It's been a long time since a video made me laugh so hard I started crying. The Monty Python clip was classic. "Rip your bag opern" haha. The whole part about plastic ramps sent me over the edge. Because it's so true haha 🤣
Anyone remember those decks that had the thin plastic bottom to slow wear from slides? I think they were made by birdhouse, but I had to superglue so many gashes on my shins because how sharp it got.
I'm just really glad that no one followed through on the random idea I had when my high school physics teacher told us to invent something - I loved skating (still love watching edits) and had what I thought was a brilliant idea. I was going to make electromagnets that would sit outside the wheel and act on the metal to literally slow your roll. Wired up a battery pack, sliding rheostat so that it wasn't either on or off - it looked AWESOME. Rather, it LOOKED awesome. 1. It didn't work. Like, AT ALL. 2. If it HAD worked, it would have been bad because of momentum (not the wheels, I was trying this on Kryptos and OJs back in the 80s). When you brake on a bike, you have something keeping you from going forward. On a skateboard ... yeah. It was probably a mercy it didn't work. If it had, the battery pack and wiring and weight would have made it only "useful" for longboards. On the bright side, I learned how to make electromagnets from scratch, learned to do some rudimentary soldering and wiring, and learned a REALLY bad way to stop a skateboard. That all yielded knowledge, and that's progress, right? ;)
I ride eboards and the hub motors are pretty much braking like this and I have to say staying on the board while braking not too strong isn't that hard, especially if you have a drop down deck then you can brake actually fairly hard
So all I would have needed to do is invent a new type of board and add a motor? Thank you, sincerely. It's good to know that I was kind of onto something 😁
I've got a set of avenues and I agree, as a trick deck truck, they blow hard. But I switched them onto my cruiser for street cruising, and I welcome the extra flex they offer for the crap roads and paths we have here.
Ha ha, I remember those aluminum decks! 'Hey, let's give the kids giant flying guillotine blades to play with!' The best idea since lawn darts. But those Tail Devils look like big fun.
I thought for sure you would have mentioned the The Ollie Strap. They had something like that a while back but was basically and innertube tied to the board.
Tail devils are dope. Threw that puppy on my patchwork ghetto cruiser, and had a whale of a time.

tail devils sounds like a wildfire waiting to happen. My friend had an aircraft board. But his shins were always so damn bloody.
Boohoo karen
tail devils are making a comeback now
That trampoline scenario came deep from his heart…. Lol
😅
i feel like tail devils would be kinda sick if they weren't so bulky. like i'm thinking a little hole in the board for refillable flint would work, but idk i'm drunk
When I was a kid, I wanted to get a piece of plexiglass and shape it into a popsicle shape deck so I could see the ground under me while skating but didn't think that clear grip tape was available.
It is now, Braille skateboarding use tempered glass
I had some clear grip tape back in the late 90's early 20's. It was garbage but would have worked for ya. I think jessup made it.
@@MidwestDankAlumni I think I saw that video. The wheels were glass too right? Shattered on the first kickflip.
Clear grip tape has been around since the 70's.
"With Tail Devils you couldn't do ANY tricks" *shows clips of people doing tricks with a Tail Devil*
Great video, I'm a father and I believe that longboard stroller to be the worst idea. Now I'm curious as to how many were bought
Instead of a child put what u buy at the store with it and work your legs out ?
Whatever bro. My and my baby are out there shredding daily.
I just used my normal board behind the stroller, it's way easier than you would think
I never owned any of these myself, but tail devils, rock deflectors, aluminum decks and those spring trucks all made it to my local parks at least once.
ive never seen the rock deflector in real life haha
Dude in my neighborhood back in the day had tail devils on both ends of his board and did all kind of tricks, another guy I knew that had multiple boards and nearly blew himself up when he decided to skate to the gas Station to fill up a Jerry can and forgot he was on the board with a tail devil xD
I know tail devil's are dumb but when I was a kid that concept would have blew my mind.
haha for sure! They're at least fun!
Thanks guys for taking my idea and making on the Cut. Big love from Québec City 🇨🇦💖🤜🏻💢🤛🏻💯💯💯
Yo! Thanks for the idea 💡 We appreciate it! 🙌🏻
Tail Devil reminds me of Glo Wax from snowboarding. Idk how well the wax actually working because I never actually put it on my stick.
Frankie was actually fried with the inventor and did it as a favor and not for money.
@@jayadams2801 Well, I'll be. I guess you'd have to be fried to jump on that half-baked idea. Only joking. Oh, yeah, I forgot it was an accidental nose bonk.
i meant to say friends. The guy who invented them was top photographer at Thrasher and shot Frankie all the time.
Tail devils were the sickest thing ever and I refuse to let you tell me otherwise
Dude tail devils are so sick! Always remember the ads being the coolest.
Possibly one of the funniest videos I’ve watched, the delivery was 10/10
I swear to god one of the gnarliest slams I ever had was with that factor X plastic skate ramp over a mailbox.
That sounds horrible!! I need to see that footy! 😂😂
Getting a shinner from the aircraft deck was BRUTAL!
Hahah I’m sure your dad was happy he never had to buy you another deck ever again 🤣
2:50 ... "rendered your board useless, you couldn't do any tricks you couldn't pop at all" literally WHILE showing footage of a guy hitting a handrail and doing a treflip with them on...
We LOVED devil tails as kids
Used to spend so much of our extra allowance on them.
But it is true, it does take extra effort to get a pop for tricks and pending how many you had on, the weight did make a noticeable change.
As we got older and they became harder to find, we just realized they were extra as hell
And we were getting higher ollies and kick flips cause the long period of time having those on our decks made us stronger and popping and ollie.
We cant lie though, the effect itself was really cool.
I had a Razor Spark skateboard (cheap Razor board with a tail devil) and it was great for Middle school aged me at the time. Good times.)
This is easily your funniest upload!!! #2 is out god damn ragous!!! Come on man!!
🙏🏻🙌🏻
We can all agree that Tail Devils shouldn't be on the list
bro the tail devils took me back to my childhood i was the coolest kid on the block with them
Thanks for linking the tail devils article. Cool orgin!
as a little kid, i could never ollie correctly anyway, so those Tail Devils were sick as hell 😄
i had a tail devil on a board and took off the wheels and used to use it as a snowboard down stairs when there was snow, that was the shizzz
You can get Grind Kings again. They're back.
Lib tech sucks ...revolution rev decks were the best ....they were 100% carbon fiber incased in a hard plastic but not too much carbon fiber so it's still a skateboard....they were awsome just so dam expensive ...too bad they went under ...
Lib tech I remember those they told me they had more pop than any other deck
Don't you dare talk about Tail Devils like that, we all lowkey loved them.
It’s kinda poetic that many of these skate “innovations” achieved the complete opposite of what they were trying to go for.
You want sparks? Just buy some Zippo flints and drill some holes into the end of the tail. Easy.
I like how he says tail devils make your board useless then plays clips of a board slide and a sick sparky tre
I just want devil tail even more now
Was about to comment something about how tail devils were sick as fuck, but seems like half the comments beat me to it. Definitely a fluke to include it on this list...
Ahahaha that part about the avenue trucks had my sides ahaha
I tried pouring gas down my driveway for the tail devil. I had rims too
I did the same thing. It was 🔥Lit🔥
@@Somedieselkid did you get yours to light with the tail devil?
@@TrillMurray No. it exploded.
@@Somedieselkid actually?? That's awesome. I never got mine to ignite. Maybe I needed more gas. That's sick tho lol nice work
@@TrillMurray the explosion killed my dog. So even thoe It made my legs into chicken nuggets, I still got a dog sandwich.
make a complete with all of these products
I remember when Z rollers came out...me & my buddies thought about them the same way we felt about rollerbladers..back in the day
Lmao this dude is the OSHA of skateboarding 😂😂. Straight up dramatic lol.
Does Levi himself count on that list?
JKJK! Love you homie!
😂😂😂
I loved the tail devil it didn’t last long but I loved in when I was 12. And def broke my arm on an X factor ramp.
I had a tail devil when i was like 11 and thought it was the coolest thing in the world.
I don't even skateboard but I was laughing my ass off this whole video😂
Glad you enjoyed!
You missed that skate product where you screw on a wheel onto your tail of the board so you can easily learn how to manny.
Wheelie Ball was around 1975 but cameras hadn't been invented yet, so little evidence exists. It was a steel ball in a cup that bolted to the tail and "supposedly" allowed "wheelies" though my experience was you just ground to a halt or became a meat crayon.
"Tail Devil rendered your board useless. You couldn't pop" while showing a video of a dude tre flipping with a tail devil. That shit was dope back in the day
Tail devils were my shit! looked badass going down the street at night
Not all the time, mind you, but way easier than the 97's lol.
right on brotherman! I still have my street cab mini with my original coned wore down 85’s 👊 Good ol rat bones
I used my 97’s for the vert ramps 🤙
Tracker Sixtracks. The mistake you only make once. Hopefully. Complete garbage.
It's been a long time since a video made me laugh so hard I started crying. The Monty Python clip was classic. "Rip your bag opern" haha. The whole part about plastic ramps sent me over the edge. Because it's so true haha 🤣
haha glad you enjoyed!!
Anyone remember those decks that had the thin plastic bottom to slow wear from slides? I think they were made by birdhouse, but I had to superglue so many gashes on my shins because how sharp it got.
The Santa Cruz ones were called ever slicks, I think birdhouse might have just called them slicks if they're what I was thinking they are.
@@ShredzShop I will see if I can find the exact ones and post the name if I do.
I know i should not laugh when he says: "bodyslam on that child",but i can't help myself😂
😂😂
That all yielded knowledge, and that's progress, right? ;)
An electric motor is an electromagnet making circles. There are electronic skateboards on the market today using your idea.
@@spuckett2489 Yeah haha and you're welcome!
I've got a set of avenues and I agree, as a trick deck truck, they blow hard. But I switched them onto my cruiser for street cruising, and I welcome the extra flex they offer for the crap roads and paths we have here.
I remember the gk rims…wanted some so bad as a kid
Ha ha, I remember those aluminum decks! 'Hey, let's give the kids giant flying guillotine blades to play with!' The best idea since lawn darts. But those Tail Devils look like big fun.
I had one wasn’t to bad . I was also 6’5 210lb in hs so normal decks wouldn’t last long
I thought for sure you would have mentioned the The Ollie Strap. They had something like that a while back but was basically and innertube tied to the board.
A inertube tied to your skateboard...unhhhhhh you mean JUNK ....lol
My neighbor snapped his arm like a twig from a plastic ramp in my driveway and I will NEVER forget the sound it made 😬
That was a fun one. Thanks Levi.
Use the plastic ramps as a mold and pour concrete in them and have a concrete ramp
