Some of these "attention-to-detail" steps should be done on all of their pieces; performance center or not. It's a shame you gotta pay extra for this. Smith will never make em like they used to...

I just purchased a smith and Wesson 629 stealth hunter brand new, guess what first day I got it I had to send it back for warranty for a new barrel...... somehow they severely damaged the rifling possibly when they drilled the ports. All you would have had to do what look down the bore with a light. Performance centre overpriced not worth the so called "extra" care they put it

My friend bought a brand new S+W 1911 performance center pistol, and brought it to me and asked why does it have a 15 pound trigger pull and why does it take two people to pull the magazine out? I completely disassembled the frame, and found a blob of plastic that had lodged behind the flat spring, and was pushing the spring into the mag well. I removed the piece of plastic , cleaned, and reassembled the gun, All problems were solved, took it to the range and it functioned flawlessly. I photographed the piece of plastic and contacted S+W NO RESPONSE I mailed the piece of plastic to them with a letter, to bring it to their attention. ZERO RESPONSE. I think they make a very good product, but think they fall down badly in the customer service area

CDI... LOL.. Nice one. FWIW, I have a 642-1 Performance Center. For a little j frame it is quite impressive. Smoooth is the word.

I had a 500 S&W with too large a barrel cylinder that was closed down to .005 as it had been twice that.

Interesting the narrative states that some of these things just aren't done on regular production guns. My point : just purchased a new 686 with a cylinder gap of. 010, I now keep a small fire extinguisher in my range bag. Sent it back and of course it was returned to me with nothing done because it's within specs. Ultimate question is how long can S&W sell low quality firearms on their high quality name?

If its within spec.. its within spec.. i do agree its a bit much... But really were talking human hair diameter... Cylinder gap isnt always bad... Ive seen many a custom revolver , with super tight fits , seize up during high round practice sessions.. i wouldnt want 4 thou in a sf defense gun for sure... Id like it around 6... 10 is a hair too much, but thats part of mass production.. if you want custom level fit, buy a performance center

Also did you measure the gap at rest?.. i check cylinder gap by loading a single round, shooting it, then rotating the cylinder around to where the speny case is lined up, and i let the hammer down on it with the trigger down.. this is locked condition and the condition its in when fired... Here your gap should be 4-6 thou... It will be bigger at rest , clearance for operation... But in locked , fire position, thats what your looking for

My Freedom Arms Model 83 won’t fit a .0015” feeler gage between the cylinder and barrel and it has never locked up. What do you need .006” for? Your dirty gun you never clean?

I went to my local gun store last week believe it or not they had 12 Smith and Wesson model 41s in stock I guess they had bought them from a store that was going out of business. So I asked to see one I could not get the safety to work no matter how much muscle I put into it. Nor could any of the three salesman get it to work this was a Performance Center model 41 he said well we have 11 others to check, out of six that we tried I found one that worked even the salesman were in disbelief they couldn’t believe Smith and Wesson would allow that to hit the shelves. I have found in all the Smith and Wesson‘s I have bought you stand a 50-50 chance on getting a good gun the other 50 you might as well use as a boat anchor this is sad, quality control must be poor to zero . Now with canted barrels and cylinders locking up, cracked frames S&W is becoming a joke in the gun business

In the beginning of this video it showed the charge holes being beautifully and carefully chamfered. I just paid $1000 for a Performance Center 625 and the chamfering looks like it was done by an angry 6 year old with a dull drill bit. Yes, it works and yes, it appears to be accurate, but I expected better.
