Super helpful video! I was just working on a cream today and the emulsion failed. What was wierd is that it came together.....but as it continued cooling and mixing thats when it started to seperate and start to fail. Anyone have any ideas?
Hi Marie. Sending well wishes from Australia 🙏😀🙏. This probably sounds like a crazy question.. but how do you actually know what percentages/parts (or even all of the different types of ingredients to include) in your different formulations? Do you work off pre-existing master recipe formulations (for each different type of product) & then modify the ingredient list according to what you'd like to use in that particular recipe? Or do you start a formulation in your head from scratch every time? I know you love your spreadsheets but if a spreadsheet was not available to you then how would you know what to include & how much? I find spreadsheets extremely confusing & therefore REALLY struggle to know how to write formulations from beginning to end! So I wondered how you know what to use & what percentages to work with? I love your book & have formulated some recipes but they are based off of yours (such as the dry exfoliant facial scrub polish powders)! With that said, I'd love to know how & feel confident enough to write my own recipe from start to finish but have no idea where to start 🧐🧐
Hey! So, this is an utterly _massive_ question 😊 It sounds like you want to learn to formulate. Hey, I had a question unrelated to the video, about reusing packaging. I can't seem to find a concrete answer anywhere else. I get that you can reuse glass bottles and such but for the pump tops, I guess they have to be thrown out after each use? Take my advice- in the long run it's safer to use a fresh bottle with fresh tops. Glass jar? Sure, wash it and after it's dry wipe down with alcohol. But the bottle, just don't. If you top it off you'll end up finding mold down the road, as well as dealing with lotion that's turned rancid. Hi, The Local vendor don't have Emulsifying wax NF, and he showed me these two options, An-ionic emulsifying wax and Non-ionic Emulsifying wax. Can you guide how are they different and which one should I use?
Hey! So, knowing the charge alone really isn't very helpful, bit generally speaking non-ionic emulsifiers are more versatile than anionic ones :) Happy making!
Is there a difference between Emulsifiers and gums. Using bees wax, hydrogenated vegetable oil and Xanthan gum, Guar gum, Carbomer. What’s the difference,
Yes, there are lots of differences-please look up the ingredients in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) to learn more!
The biggest one would be a baby-safe preservative; Liquid Germall™ Plus (INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate) is not approved for use in people under 3 years, for instance. You can learn more at humblebeeandme.com/preservatives/ :) Happy making!

I use olivem 1000 in lotions; emulsifying wax NF for creams, and BTMS 50 for butters. Every time I try mixing Olivem 1000 and BTMS 50 in my creams it breaks emulsion and I cannot figure out why.
It's hard to say without having your exact formulations, but Olivem 1000 and BTMS 50 should work for all kinds of emulsions if used at the proper rate :)
Hi in one of my formulation I used cetereal alcohol as the emulsifier. 10 gm sweet almond oil,3 gram cetereal alcohol, water 34 gram, essential oil and preservative. My emulsion didnt be made into a cream. After a few days it separated. Why?
I’m no expert AT ALL, but if what you mean is cetyl alcohol, let me share that when my recipes call for it, they also call for an e-wax. the cetyl alcohol won’t hold the formulation together

Can you tell me how to use CA/C20? Do I need to add stearic acid to it?
I normally use Beeswax
GOOD
What if using something like optiphen plus as a preservative in a hair gel makes it thinner how can i make it thicker again?
I usually formulate the product knowing it will thin a bit at the end-trying to add a thickener after adding the preservative will be very irksome.
I made a emulsified body butter with water and after blending I filled 1 jar it looked great something told me to try it….I put on my fresh skin and it got cakey😩 how can I fix?
I'm afraid I really can't offer any advice without having your entire formulation. Was this one of my formulations?
@@HumblebeeAndMe no I waslooking and just subscribed
Ok :) I'd recommend trying one of my formulations and seeing if it still happens-I can offer more advice when it's one of my formulations :)
My lotion separated. I do not know why.
The thicker emulsifier the lighter cream?
I Love your video so much 🤗
Thank you so much!!
I tried to sign up. It wont allow me to.
Is there any specific/special ingredients that one need to use when making lotion/creams for babies ?
The biggest one would be a baby-safe preservative; Liquid Germall™ Plus (INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate) is not approved for use in people under 3 years, for instance. You can learn more at humblebeeandme.com/preservatives/ :) Happy making!
Hey there, is there a maximum amount of time that you shouldn't exceed when blending emulsions? pls help
There's no universal rule, no. It will vary with formulation/emulsifier/tool/batch size/etc.
How to get your book please
I love love your videos 😁🙌

Thank you so much! Don't forget to check out my blog (humblebeeandme.com)-I've been blogging for over 8.5 years while I’ve only been on RUclips for about 4.5, so there is TONS more content on the blog! ❤️
Gracias!! I just love your videos and fell so thankful for what you share with us. ❤️ from México 🇲🇽
Thanks for watching!
Are btms 25 or 50 good emulsifiers?
Yup! Learn more about both in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you very much
Could you help me make a homemade powder for under breasts area
Do you know the best emulsifier to decrease the viscosity of an water in oil emulsion?
I'm afraid I almost never work with water-in-oil emulsions.
Marie, can you talk about making a thick cream instead of a lotion
That's what the second question is about ;)
Humblebee & Me can you do a video using emulsifying wax and ceteryl alcohol to thicken and what percentage to use
Sorry, I need your dumbed down version of this video please
Try this? www.humblebeeandme.com/super-simple-moisturizing-lotion/ :)
How come you don't sell your own products?
Please watch my video "I QUIT! Why I stopped selling" :)
I just want to rub your puppy's ears as well lol.. So cute and loving!
Sometimes she's so cute I'm surprised I get anything done LOL
Seems like a good mascot to me lol
Hi in one of my formulation I used cetereal alcohol as the emulsifier. 10 gm sweet almond oil,3 gram cetereal alcohol, water 34 gram, essential oil and preservative. My emulsion didnt be made into a cream. After a few days it separated. Why?
I’m no expert AT ALL, but if what you mean is cetyl alcohol, let me share that when my recipes call for it, they also call for an e-wax. the cetyl alcohol won’t hold the formulation together
So explain beeswax products then? You can most definitely use beeswax 😊
You talked way too fast. It was hard to keep up with your information without having to rewind a few times.
why are you so lovely honey ?!

Ohh God! You are speaking so fast. I guess you only speak for native english speakers. I don't think there is a time limit on youtube. You give very valuable information, but it's really hard to follow you while you talk.😢😢😢
Did you know you can slow down the playback speed on RUclips? support.google.com/youtube/answer/7509567?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid
This is one of the very very few (maybe 0.5%?) of videos I've shared that don't have a written free partner blog post, but usually you can go read the post instead if that works better for you :)
Thank you. I didn’t know🙈🙈
