None of the people in the design team were left handed... the brush wells are on the right side.... not as convenient for lefties!
Geoff's perfect decals are the highlight - that, and Pat's swearing at the job well done!
Thanks, pure luck!
"Pick names out of a hat." Grabs a spacemarine helmet 😂
Your painting standard has improved 100%
Yeah exactly my reaction watching this video, really shows off your progression
Literally came to comments to say this. Great to see 'normal' (I use this subjectively!!!!) people painting stuff to a sane standard but Pat's painting has gone waaay up since the start which is great to see@@busktildawn
They have arrived for sure.
Boys! This was the video. No nonsense. Bags of personality. Just two dudes dudin'.
I'm not anywhere near as interested in tutorials as I am seeing folks just do the hobby their way and figure it all out as they go.
This was a fun one, always nice to see Geoff partake in painting videos.
Cheers! - Geoff
Your reaction at the beginning was literal gold 😂😂😂
That Penitent Blade guy looks great!
Love Patrick's airbrush journey! Also loves Geoff's approach with with the drybrush. A lot of channels just say "you can do this with a drybrush too" and move on - this is a perfect encapsulation of what those two techniques look like from the average hobbier. Absolutely brilliant video.
Wow! All of the schemes and jobs look amazing, but have to give it to Pat’s Penitent blades, I think he came out absolutely stunning.
Thanks dude ❤️
Well I must say you two fellas have come on in leaps and bounds. Those terminators look fantastic!
Too kind.
Great video guys, love the breakdowns and the painting bringing two different acheivable styles of paint! Long live the painting phase!
Absolutely love this, boys!! Not to commit to a whole series, but as a patreon I'd vote for another. The little fluff sections got me @ 13:40! Great work as always!
Guys I have to tell you, I enjoyed every single bit of this video.
I love how, instead of the usual "speed painting for beginners" (not directed at anyone in particular, youtube is full of the same stuff being pushed over and over), you guys show where you want to go, your struggles, your ideas and experimentation and how you try to improve your paintjob (at least this is my perception).
Honestly, I love this format and I hope you will do plenty more of this. Way to go!
For me the best one is the first, yellow blue quartered one. Sorry Patrick :D
Geoff even wears a DA coloured flannel 😍 a style icon as always!
Oh wow, this is perfect for me.
I was just pondering the idea of trying a quartered colour theme for my Terminators.
I decided to paint each of them differently rather than make a matching squad of five. I just want to test out some different schemes and experiment with the new kit.
My first one was painted like an Abrams tank: desert yellow armour with olive drab ammo packs from the Intercessors sprue, and spare decals from the Tamiya Abrams kit.
Now that I've done a gritty modern military style, I want to try a more vibrant, decorative, medieval inspired scheme.
All four models look so good!! Well done!! Do a Penitent blade army!! XD
Love the magnetic docking station for a cuppa tea.
The painted minis are fabulous, too.
I actually really enjoy Your painting videos. Even more than the typical tutorial approach. I love that You are showing Your journey, approaches, mishaps and sub-optimal choices.
Keep it up guys!
Absolutely excellent video! The results are both doable and great at the same time. Looking forward to more from you guys.
It's amazing to see how much you guys are improving all the time. Pat's airbrush swagger at the beginning was a world away from the first time he used one. Top work!
Man seeing you guys paint these shows a ton of great growth, so glad I’ve stuck around you guys are great!
Getting the lines straight is WAY easier if you angle your brush/mini so you can drag the tip straight down (instead of moving it sideways like it looks here). A confident brushstroke results in a straighter line than a slowly drawn one. Final minis came out great.
Drill your barrels Pat!
But more seriously, really love those halved and quarter schemes from Pat. You're right though that the brown is just a bit too dark, though he could just be really grubby.
Geoff's Guardians of the Covenant was really stunning, which is impressive with the limited colour palette.
Loved this. Agree you need to paint the rest of the successor chapters now though! Got a good chuckle out of Geoffs perfect decals too
More paint videos would be great. This was a very enjoyable watch.
Now I need to look into what that panel lining stuff is. And then practice the scratch/weathering stuff, and transfers too..
Absolutely nailed this one lads! Best painting video you've done yet. Would definitely enjoy more videos like this one.
Quality video and miniatures lads! You’re both improving every time you paint and it’s great to see your development 👏
Guys, your painting skill has increased like 10x. Wow!
Great video, love it. When are we going to see the Jeff and Pat army painting challenge? Get at it. Paint 1500 points of Custard or Deathwing. Maybe get together and paint a combat patrol together?
You guys really delivered on this video. I had no idea you both painted so well.
A++ on the skull/wings transfer!! Looks fantastic. All 4 minis looked great. Patrick: Next time you have draw random paint schemes, I think you earned a few "do-overs"! both picks were halves/quarters LOL! Also - I would say to paint up some deathwing. I've been having a grand time doing so. Lovely video!
Thanks for the video.
Pat: I can't recommend enough that you invest in a crown cap for your nozzle. Instead of futzing with that brush trying to clean your tip, you can grab a sponge damp with cleaner and it's a quick pinch & twist. You'll thank yourself.
Fantastic shots and overall "vibe" of the video. Great idea for a challenge. Really lovely to see the great work from the both of you. Keep it coming 😊
Great video and fantastic painting! Really enjoyed this one - more of this please!!
do the blue and yellow scheme! no one else is doing, its chance to do something unique. add some 3d printed bits
And remember, if you've completed split scheme marines - you unlock 'Nightmare Difficulty' - the classic minotaurs red and yellow split hazard stripe scheme!
Cool! Neat idea to do successor chapters out of the box.
Great tutorials, taking the leap and building those skills every time. Keep up the awesome work.
It's making me consider trying this too, one marine for every successor chapter, for the challenge and a bit of a display piece.
Maybe with the next starter set or if I bother trying to pick up another Leviathan box with a bunch of Primaris.
My Deathwing Assault box set is going standard deathwing though.
Thesee paint jobs are fantastic. Pat, that yellow is perfect, I'm going to crib it for my Imperial Fists. Geoff, I loved that technique you did with the grey over silver, and you really nailed that decal mate 😂. Would love to see you paint some Blood angel successors in the not so distant future.
4 great schemes there. Some great innovative approaches to the colours, patterns and transfers. And as always thanks for sharing those little [dakka] moments as we get a warning of potential pitfalls.
Beautiful paintjobs all round. The weathering is top and the panel liner looks like a neat little bit of kit for the toolbox.
Gotta say the camera and editing work is top notch.
Great video guys!! Would love to see more successor chapters 🤠👍
Great looking miniatures chaps 👍 very enjoyable to watch
Looks great. Can imagine painting this scheme for a Combat Patrol or single mini but no way I could manage an army.
Nice paintin' lads! Would love to see you tackle some orky stuff next.
Funny you say that, I’ve still got the Ork Commandos from Killteam unpainted, I’d love to get round to doing them.
Your painting standard is improving so quickly! Maybe consider ditching the microsol & set, I keep seeing you struggling with those when all you need is warm water with a tiny drop of Fairy Liquid in it. Haven't ruined a transfer since I switched ❤
All these schemes turned out looking awesome guys! I really appreciate the fact that, while both of you are leveling-up your painting, all the work you're doing is still incredibly approachable. Have to agree with Pat on the Penitent Blades, though. Definitely not a scheme I'd want to use on anything larger than a killteam.
Thanks for such a great comment.
Fair play guys they all look awesome!!!!
These videos are great dudes, keep up the good work!
I love these quartered styles.
Your painting has improved so much guys 👏👏Top vid
That yellow looks incredible. Ive just started using Abeitlung oils, great stuff. For drawing straight lines, use a sharp brush and look where the brush is going not the tip of the brush.
When you say look where the brush is going, what do you mean?
I think he might mean an old artist trick.
Rather than looking at a pen as you draw a straight line from point a to point b, instead put the pen at point a, then look at point b, then keeping your eyes on point b, move the pen to it.
Do that with the brush?
I could have totally misunderstood what he meant and made your job even harder.
@captaincosmo6157 that's it, thanks I'm shit with words haha
I also know the pain of decals disintegrating in front of your eyes Pat. The mix of Raven Guard and the skull worked perfectly though!
Great painting gents!
You know you’ve got to paint the rest of the successor chapters from the book now!
🤔
I paint griffons and doing the quartered scheme can be exhausting.
Just wanted to say, great video!
Great video. Like the look of the hobby desk too, although it's a shame some of the bits you showed are premium extras!
I started the Howling Griffons recently and I love the challenge of it
I also paint Howling Griffons, and love it. Hope the best for your journey!
@@YourStylesGeneric321 thank you! You too
Excellent video and both of your models looks absolutely stunning 👌
Nice work on the Penitent Blades Terminator, looks great. I've got the Deathwing Assault box waiting to be painted in their scheme myself, always like seeing quartered schemes.
Love the vid guys, well done on the paint schemes as well.
Cheers.
Good work gents, some nifty looking minis there.
I had some recent GW decals that disintegrated like that as well. Bad batch or somethin. My decal tools are in their own little box so there's no way they would touch anything other than water, sol and set.
Yeah the new citadel formula for shades and contrasts (when wave 2 launched) has been nice to use on metallics with that slightly satin finish.
Split and quartered schemes are lovely.
Love your yellow recipe. I'd have been satisfied with just your airbrushing work.
Easily the best yellow I've done, was a shame to cover up half of it!
Excellent video always love to see successors and I do enjoy the Unforgiven; though I'm more of a Fallen guy myself... 😆
Wow, I really like the blue-yellow one
Out of nowhere, this represents a great step up in both your painting. The use of the airbrush, panel lining and chipping is top notch!
Gotta give you guys a thumbs up on this one! Cheers!
Angel of redemtion just walked thru fire which smoked the bone color
Suggestion for a replacement for Tamiya flat white. Give Molotow One4All acrylic white refill a try. No need to thin, goes down like an ink but without the reactivation problem
The entire range are great for airbrushing your base coats and even brush painting once you get used to the consistancy.
Also, great video by the way. Considering some of the recent changes i was a little concered but i had no need to be. Both of you have come on leaps and bounds with your painting and presenting. Great work, keep it up
Great stuff lads ❤
Great bit of painting - and love the swearing at Geoff's decal skills!
Surprise ladybug cameo! These all look amazing, well done
Very well done! No halved or quartered schemes for me, but I am prepping for a Crimson Fists kill team using MKVI marines, so I definitely appreciate successor chapters!
The difference in Pats painting is amazing. Wow!
“Ah piss” “butt cover thing” you have a way with words 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm an orator innit
Loved this! ❤
the results from that airbrush are so good!
I'm really enjoying airbrushing at the moment, H&S ultra is awesome.
You boys have been practising painting. Your skill level have shot up massively. Good job.
You’re too kind.
How to do transfers no micro set sol needed apply some clear gloss nail varnish to the shoulder pad wait a while get transfer off the sheet with water stick down transfer exactly where its meant to b first time use tooth pick or pin to flaten anything out if needed if does not work scrape off try again
Excellent work gents!
Must get the hobby desk
Yeah, I'm doing a quartered space marine army right now, it's tbh not so hard, BUT for painting that straight line, I'd say it's harder on the vehicles with their surface area (but again, here maybe taping off can help). Patience, a new fine tipped brush, and flowing paint are the tips I agree with. It does look spectacular when done, and takes but a bit longer. I mean, a color is being laid down regardless, if there's edge highlighting it takes time regardless, The quartering thing isn't that bad by comparison to these time sinks.
Great videos.
Just bought your t-shirt.
You absolute Star!
Really enjoyed seeing the successor chapter schemes. Would you remind us how to do your decals with the microsol etc because they came out so well.
My method was:
Gloss varnish
Microset
Transfer
Microsol
Gloss varnish
Matt varnish
Long winded but works great. Might be able to skip the second gloss stage? Some folks don't use microset etc. whatever works for you.
@@thepaintingphase thank you, love the show. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic video gentlemen
We thank you.
Guardians of the covenant are the best dark angels successor chapter for taking a break while still painting. Just easy as pie. AOR are awful. That split scheme is like painting two armies. Nice work guys.
Thanks so much.
Geoff, your thumb was slowly disappearing in that first miniature.😂
😂
Hmmm, shades of Dark.
Do your own custom scheme deathwing pat 🙏
Nailed it guys!!!!!!!!!!!
what was the brightest yellow you used for the volumetric highlight after IF contrast?
Jeff & I, not me and Jeff...didn't you guys invent the language. Why is an American correcting you :P That painting station looks really nice. Enjoyed this painting video. You and Jeff have both really improved. I feel I could learn some airbrushing techniques from you.
As we invented it, that’s we have have the God given right to abuse the English Language! 😜 Thanks so much for kind words Guv’nr, really appreciated. - Geoff
The "banana swords" could be a name of these guys
0:48 - who else paused to see what stuff in the background you can see in the airbrush reflection?
Great vid guys 😊 question, how do you dispose of oils in the little dishes after you’ve finished with it? And where do you get them from?
I’ll ask Pat, about their origins.
How's that for a slice of fried gold @9:32
