Gorgeous ! for those who discover, and appreciate the lute, some basic technical elements that you will "see" more easily if they are indicated to you - I want to focus on the technique of the right hand, which is very specific to the "renaissance" lute (and quite different form guitar technique)
1/ first of all, the little finger is and remains placed on the soundboard - this is intended to "stabilize" the hand and allow the thumb to find the right bass string... indeed with one hand floating in the air, the risk of playing the wrong bass string is increased. Think that on the archlute and the theorbo, there are 6 strings plus 8 open bass strings !
2/ the "thumb inside" technique: if you play with a guitarist's technique, your thumb plays outside the other fingers of the right hand, and consequently the latter pluck the strings perpendicularly, which does not give the best sound on a lute, and slows down the execution of the "diminutions" (divisions). Here Leva plays with the fingers 2, 3, 4 almost unfolded and the thumb very inside. This is possible with a forearm placed on the bottom of the body, behind the bridge... this position will be more and more difficult when the instruments become bigger (late 17th century)
3/ Also, when no bass is involved for the thumb, she can play quarter notes by rapid alternance of thumb1 and finger2: 1-2-1-2-1-2... (see at 0:28 ) - this recalls (and comes from) the technique of the "oud" played with a plectrum, ans where the hand moves, not the fingers.
These techniques, quite uneasy for beginners, are really essential for playing the renaissance repertoire, especially John Dowland. It will be lost towards the end of the 17th century, with bigger instruments, like theorbo. Hope it helps 😊

This is a variation over a theme called "Lacrimae" - or "7 Tears."
The other variations are more interesting - especially the slower parts and that are being played
with more instruments. The most beautiful classical music that I know of.
